Pride Hits the Coast in Newsprint

Stranger

Don't miss this compendium of pieces from Seattle's excellent paper The Stranger. Their Queer Issue features a sort of evolution of "Homo History" with personal perspectives and contributions from John Aravosis, Wayne Besen, Bruce Bawer, Kaley Davis, Amy Ruiz, Larry Kramer, Matt Foreman, Christopher Frizzelle, Ed Murray, Jamie Pedersen, Michael Petrelis, Tricia Ready, Adrian Ryan, Eli Sanders, Dan Savage, David Schmader, Michelangelo Signorile, Hank Steuver, Andrew Sullivan, Michelle Tea, Terry Miller, Andrew Tobias, Edmund White, Rex Wockner, and Evan Wolfson.

And this short video that Chris Crocker contributed to the issue, direct from Real Bitch Island.

On the other coast, the Village Voice is running its annual Queer Issue featuring an article on gay babies, fundraising parties for trans surgery, drag diva Kevin Aviance, big girls (Hello Mika), and of course the always juicy Michael Musto.

  1. Please stop pushing Mika.

  2. In response to the Chris Crocker video, he says "in the South this is the only gay pride..." is ridiculous. Atlanta Pride is this weekened, and Atlanta is nothing but gay people. So yes, if Chris doesn't like not having a Pride, why doesn't he just get with a friend and drive the two hours or so to ATL?

  3. Do you people have anything to do but complain?

  4. That kid is so dramatic! He reminds me of a Turner Classic movie (betty davis or similar)

And he's going to regret broadcasting every random emotion/thought that flickers across his consciousness some years down the road.

So. Much. Drama. It's one of the few things that makes me 100% happy I'm moving away from my youth.

  5. Chris Crocker is a complete farce.

He lives two hours from Atlanta, which has one of the biggest Gay Pride events in the country. It's this weekend.

Additionally, South Carolina, ya know, where he actually lives, is hosting their Gay Pride Sept. 22-24, 2007.

  6. OMG...lighten up people. It's obvious that he is dishing it all out with a heavy side of sarcasm.

  7. Chris, sweetheart, what you're having in that room is what we (in the South) call a pity party.

Don't be too hard on him folks, most of us thought the world revolved around us too when we were his age.

Difference is, we didn't subject the rest of the world to it with cyberspace.

  8. Mikey, sarcasm is not the same as outright lying.

  10. I wish I had the Eli Sanders piece as a reference during the whole Isaiah Washington comments debacle.
By the way, where are the gay ethnic voices in the "Homo History"? Am I missing something?

  11. I'm sorry... I think this is genius. I haven't spurted tears out of my eyes laughing in a long time.
