Ron Paul on 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell': "If a heterosexual or homosexual sins, that to me is the category of dealing with their own soul. Since we cannot have only perfect people going in the military I want to separate the two because I don't want to know the heterosexual flaws, nor the homosexual flaws and that's why I got in some trouble with some of the civil libertarians because I don't have any problem with Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Because I don't think that, for the practicality of running a military, I'd just as soon not know every serious thing that any heterosexual or homosexual did, and those flaws have to do with all our flaws because each and everyone one of us has those imperfections."
Gays in Polish media distance themselves from recently-published list of homophobic politicians: "[This] is a private initiative of the authors, reflects private opinions of the authors and their friends, and by no means represents an opinion of sexual minorities’ organisations or gay people in general. We do not accept placing names of politicians known for their actions for rights of sexual minorities close to those whose homophobia is apparent."

Florida Rep. Bob Allen to appear in court today on blowjob charges: "Judge Oscar Hotusing will decide whether the evidence presented in the case constitutes a crime. Police say in a Titusville park restroom July 11, Allen agreed to pay $20 to perform oral sex on an undercover officer, a charge the seven-year lawmaker has vehemently denied. Whether Allen testifies in the 2:30 p.m. hearing depends on what the state attorney's office presents, said Greg Eisenmenger, one of his attorneys."

Ron Paul's explanation of his support for DADT is disingenuous. The difference is a double standard. Heterosexuals aren't dismissed for talking. It's just more conservative bullshit.

DB is right, but EVERY explanation for DADT is disingenuous... with the exception of those tiny few who admit that their support for the policy is based on right-wing religious ideology. That's pretty much the only honest answer. Reprehensible, but honest.

Dr. Paul is an otherwise reasonable, sincere man who has served his constituents well - which makes his support for DADT all the more annoying. And his explanation blows. God damn it, this is really quite upsetting.

I have been supporting him and agree with a lot of what he says, but his position on DADT has been poorly articulated and nonsensical.

Why is this surprising? Most libertarians stop just short of fully wanting the government out of the lives of everyday americans.
It's a good thing (for them) while talking about fiscal issues. But get them talking about social issues and they sound like any conservative Republican.
Next time you want to support someone for President, do your homework. Ron Paul is just like every other Republican, with the exception of his stance against the war.
If you want someone against the war and supports gay rights. I don't know, pick a Democrat. Any of them. They are all against the war. They are all against DA/DT, DOMA and support civil unions.
Ron Paul didn't even show up for the Logo debate. Why the hell would any gay person support this guy?

All due to Ron Paul, who at least has said some very good things regarding Iraq, I'm not aware that he was ever good on gay issues.

I particularly like Keith Oberman's nickname for Fox "News," he calls it "Fixed" News, a name which I think quite appropriately describes their journalistic credibility to a tee...

Why do these idiots not realize that DADT forces people to LIE? No one in any co-worker situation, let alone an environment as close knit as the military, does not talk at all about partners, attractions, etc. DADT does not only force gays to not talk about being gay, it forces them to pretend to be straight or else be identified as gay by default.

It's a good thing Camilla isn't going.
I couldn't imagine her having the balls to go myself, and since she was one of the prime causes of grief in Diana's life, it would be so hypocritical for her to go.
I can't believe William & Harry would even want the old bag there. If I were in their shoes, I would hate her to her dying day. I hope to God she does not live to become the next Queen. She will be almost as bad as Wallis Simpson was, and not nearly as chic.

WTF? I didn't understand any of Ron Paul's "explanation".

It seems like to me that Ron Paul is just trying to avoid it either way. He knows that he has to support DADT in order to get the Republican nomination. His personal views fall in line with the Religious Right he just has to convince them that Politics and Religion should remain separate and he could easily win their support. He doesn't believe in legislating morality especially on the federal level. I personally think he just doesn't really care about that issue and it wouldn't surprise me if he would do away with DADT in some form of legislative compromise in order to get something that he really wants and then just say well I had to in order to get this. He is still a politician afterall and compromised is required in the American system of government.
Plus even if Ron Paul wins he will be stuck with a Democratic majority Congress which would severely limit him in several areas that Democrats seem concerned about. We have to cut spending or we are going to bankrupt ourselves. He is so good on almost every other issue except for abortion. Which is a biggie I'll admit. Although the judges he would appoint would just rule that it would be an issue for each state to decide instead of the feds. He did vote against the federal marriage amendment. On gay issues he is probably about the equivalent of Rudy or McCain. He seems gay-neutral to me. Also I could see him approving civil unions at the federal level as part of a legislative compromise if the Democrats did it in order to try and undermine Paul's support from his own party. No one seems to be quite sure his exact position personally or otherwise on gay issues except for one of neutrality.

Ron Paul's support for the DADT makes everything else he says fall to deaf ears to me. I cant respect people like that.
