About the Banner #21
I shot the last banner while I was visiting family in Montana. That dog in the photo is a Border Collie named Gaby that belongs to the neighbors. Poor thing is scared of her own shadow. Actually, she's frightened of just about everything, but particularly of people — anyone — with a hat on. I don't want to know what made her that way, but I wasn't wearing a hat the day I took the photo, so maybe that's why she decided to take part in my little bucolic scene.

I live in New Mexico and I have a border collie I found on the side of the road. I think she fell out of a truck. She is sweet as can be but won't let anyone but me and my partner touch her. I think the breed is naturally high strung.

Andrew, have you ever put your nose next to the bark of the Ponderosa pine? It smells like vanilla, so sweet! That and sage and juniper, man I love the west!

It's a good pic, great scenery, pretty dog....but why are you posting on it now lol? I'd have thought you would have done this before putting the banner up.

Maybe Gaby is afraid of people wearing hats because Mitt Romney once donned a hat and then attempted to strap her to the top of the Romney family station wagon for a 72 hour drive from the Romney estate in Boston to Temple Square in Salt Lake City. That's my guess at least.

My family had an adult Poodle who reacted the same way, ...unless you were hunting, ...she was strange.
If you were hunting, she would stick by you're side...and is a great spotter.
But if you are just walking out on the street, and (let's say a firecracker goes off ...which is frequent here in central FL) she retreats and hides anywhere that has a space for her.
It's really weird.

Beautiful photo. i liked the banner, but the photo's even better with that big old tree. i loved all your past banners, but will miss Gaby especially because your latest banner gives me a bit of a headache. i'm betting when i see the original picture, i'll like it more.

I want a dog, but I live in the city. It is just not fair. To the dog, that is.

hmmm... You must've been on the left half of the state, right? The rattlesnake is my first guess but they have a leash law there. Shoot, it could be anywhere!
I was at home last week too and was really glad to see my dogs since they can't email me from Great Falls. My dad and I were walking around the backyard and he already dug a hole before it freezes for Muffin, who is sixteen, and isn't expected to survive the winter. And Toby the Westie is allergic to meat, so is a dog on a vegetarian diet, save for when he eats birds...
