Milwaukee Pastor Blames California Wildfires on Tolerance of Gays
DailyKos published an email yesterday from anti-abortion pastor Matt Trewhella that was sent out to his supporters. Trewhella is a Milwaukee-based wingnut of the Falwell school of thinking, apparently. According to DailyKos, "Matt Trewhella is known by law enforcement, and was investigated by the FBI in the mid 90's during the murders of abortion doctors and clinic workers." Trewhella blames the California fires on the state's new education law which bans school instruction or activities which could be perceived as negative towards gay, bisexual, or transgender people.

Last week I groaned when I read how Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill into law in California which foisted homosexuality upon the children of that state through the state school system. The bill was SB777 and it clearly redefines (perverts) what sexuality is, as well as promotes the legitmacy of homosexuality upon children starting from kindergarten on up. He signed the bill on Saturday, October 13th.
Seven days later on October 20th, wildfires broke out across California in several places.

Last year gaybashing anglican bishops blamed gays for floods in England when obviously it was punishment for the 700 years of English colonialism and murder in Ireland.
Now this twit in Milwaukee blames us and at the same time right wingers are taking up the cry that Al Qaeda did it.
In actuality, the fires are related to the fact that global warming caused by emissions has increased temperatures in the Western US a full degree. If you’ve read newspapers or watched TV for the last five years you’ll have seen the proof of scientists contentions that temperature increase has resulted in a four fold increase in fires.
The same warming trend is affecting weather patterns globally. The latest releases from scientists indicate that the trip point when global warming begins to produce disasters is just a decade away, not a century or so as previously believed.

Cassius yes, But you seem to be ignoring white looters in SD. Why is that. You seem to like to point out the crimes of dark skinned people, but never mention the crimes of white skinned individuals.
Child ughhhhhhhhhh what an utter waste of protoplasm you are. NO the SD catastrophe is not more civilized that NO as you tried to point out the other day. The cases cited from NO occurred days and days after said catastrophe just like the cases of crime in SD are now starting to come in. It takes time for looters to get to work since they too generally are running in fear like everybody else.
Yes there were illegal imigrants rounded up at Qualcomm. Yet the white business that have comited FEDERAL OFFENSES!!!!!!!!!! by hiring them in the first place (most illegal imigrants wouldn't be here in america if they couldn't get jobs) is ignored.
You so like to pick and choose your news tid bits. Whatever shows a non white in a bad light is ground breaking news for you, and you claim to not be racist?
Child, I so hope that you find out that your great great grandfather was of mixed race so as to rock your world and maybe knock some sense into your head.

Since you are the only one here who cares to make this a racial issue, I'll leave to you the challenge of finding news stories specifically identifying white looters and other bad actors in the face of this tragedy.

Also despite the fact that SD has electricity, sewage, running water, and faster responding national help.

So God is punishing overwhelmingly conservative, Republican districts (including one well known enclave of the Southern California KKK) for California's tolerance of gays, which for the most part does not extend to the areas hardest hit by the fires. Jack up up our level of tolerance a few notches and we could be rid of all rightwing zealots.

Before you roll your eyes, the leaders of the Republican Party’s theological community - Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and James Dobson – all insist that natural disasters are caused by God’s anger at our tolerance of homosexuals.
A quick survey of California shows that we have not had a major earthquake since Domestic Partnerships were introduced. What has happened nationally?
In 1997, the Florida Legislature introduced the nation’s first Defense of Marriage Act. Shortly thereafter, Pat Robertson warned the city of Orlando, Florida, that a gay celebration the city hosted "will bring about terrorist bombs, it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor." What happened? Nine major hurricanes have devastated Florida including Charley, Ivan, Francis, Jeanne and Wilma, destroying the notoriously anti-gay Coral Ridge Ministries but leaving Orlando untouched.
In 2004, Louisiana passed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and recognition of any “identical or substantially similar” legal status. The same year, Massachusetts started legal marriages. The fallout? Hurricane Katrina destroyed most of Louisiana except for New Orleans’ gay village, while Boston won the World Series.
By 2006, twenty-seven of the fifty United States had constitutionally banned same-sex marriage, while Canada had been performing marriages for a year. The result? This year the Canadian dollar passed the US dollar for the first time in 30 years. Oh, and zero Canadian hurricanes, earthquakes, meteors or debilitating wildfires.
My conclusion from these data is that if you attracted the wrath of God and caused
the wildfires, it was not by signing seven pro-LGBT bills, but by vetoing AB 43, the bill that would have extended the freedom of choice God gave us to all California families.

Well the news and the comments are really nothing new. If you were to look back on history blacks, women, and mixed marriages were as well the cause of various catastrophes in the US (what about the world). What saddens me is the stain it puts on the Christian church for this man and his remarks are just reactionary and fear based. Jesus himself when a calamity occurred (wall falling) said to the people that it had nothing to do with their sinfulness. We will always have broken men and women pointing the finger at some people group or another for the cause of... The question I have to ask myself is how will I respond.
