Music News: Spice Girls Make Headlines As New Single Leaks, Plus Patti LaBelle, Kylie Minogue, Kurt Cobain, Jay-Z, David Gest

GuestbloggerPlease welcome Robbie Daw, who will be penning occasional music posts for us here on Towleroad! Robbie runs his own pop music site called Chart Rigger.

"Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)," the new single from the Spice Girls, has leaked weeks ahead of its official release. Have a listen and see (or, rather, hear) what you think:

It's pleasant in that "2 Become 1" way, but after all the hype, isn't this new Spice track missing that certain zig-a-zig-ah?

Spiceworldboxcopy"Headlines" will be included on the Spice Girls' Greatest Hits. Last week it was reported that the British fivesome had signed a deal  with Victoria's Secret for the upcoming CD to be sold exclusively in the lingerie chain's U.S. stores beginning November 13. The compilation will also be available on iTunes. Otherwise, there won't be a wide retail release in American outlets until January.

Meanwhile, tabloids are reporting that the video shoot for "Headlines," which happened on Friday, almost collapsed under the fivesome's "diva demands": "Things were very delayed. The director was tearing his hair out and threatened to walk. The girls were so tired and Emma [Bunton] was crying as the shoot just went on and on."

Additionally, Sony Home Entertainment is reissuing the 1997 film Spice World in a "special edition" DVD on November 27, a week ahead of the Girls' world tour.

  2. Forget Patti, what the HELL was up with Whitney? Sounded like she was slurring and had major 'tude going on! LOL

  3. NEVER forget, Miss Patti, tho I do wish she'd retire so we could remember her for the vocal goddess that she was and Know Nothings like those on YouTube responding to this video wouldn't complain about the "fat old woman." The times I was lucky enough to see and hear her in person were "religious experiences" I'll always treasure. Her voice may virtually be gone but thank Judy there's proof of what she once was [and some others were].

  4. So, I'm liking the new Spice Girls song (God knows I've loved them from day one), but I don't feel like this is the right style of music for their first release.

They should be releasing something fun and upbeat. This single could have waited to be the 2nd or 3rd release.

  5. I love Patti. Even though she's old school, she's got some world class pipes on her, and can belt out songs the bitches today only wish they could. So what if she's big? So is Jennifer Hudson, and god knows that girl can sing.

Patti seems like a really warm and genuinely sweet person.

But I love Whitney too. That bitch is crazy. God I miss her antics. I'm waiting for her to go ape-shit again.

  6. First, Spice Girls single: sort of bleh. But I have my tickets. They better freaking Zig-a-Zig everywhere for what they're charging.

Second, Britney Spears album horrible?! You have to be kidding. It's insanely addictive and so well put together. Maybe she doesn't have incredible range, but who really cares? It's Britney Spears. We know she can't really sing. Blackout is going to sell like crazy. It's just that good.

  7. "Illegal download site"

Robbie, you should stick to reporting on the gossip around the Spice Girls' video shoot and leave the heavy topics to adults that can get the story straight. THe legality of the site is still in question but I guess you see people getting arrested and you think the evidence is in. If you had done even 5 seconds of research you'd know that what the authorities were deeming a 'subscription-based' website was in fact a FREE p2p COMMUNITY. It wasn't for profit.

Were their copy-protected albums on the site? Not at all - as it was a tracker and therefore kept not ONE album on its servers.

Anyway if you're just going to report what everyone is saying without checking it out yourself, please just keep quiet as we don't need more MISINFORMATION.

    Thanks.

  9. I'm sorry, I love the Spice Girls but the new SINGLE... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Should have picked something upbeat for their first comeback single.

  10. The Britney album...was never a fan before, but this is pretty quality synth pop. Its shameless and its addictive and its well produced. Good stuff. I'm very surprised.
