High-Ranking Vatican Cleric Suspended in Gay Sex Scandal

Monsignor Tommaso Stenico, a high-ranking Vatican cleric who was suspended after being recognized propositioning a young man on a TV program about gay priests, insists he is not gay, and says he was pretending to be gay to gather information about "those who damage the image of the Church with homosexual activity."

StenicoThe program was broadcast on a show called "Exit" on Italian network La7. On the program, Stenico, 60, a top official in the Vatican’s Congregation for Clergy, reportedly says he "didn’t feel he was sinning" by having sex with gay men. The Congregation for Clergy "aims to ensure proper conduct by priests" according to the AP. While faces were blacked out in the video, Vatican officials recognized the background —Stenico's office.

The AP reports: "Stenico was secretly filmed making advances to a young man and asserting that gay sex was not sinful."

The Guardian offers details about the interview (seen here): "The six-minute sequence was said to have been captured by a young man who had come into contact with a Vatican official via an internet chatroom. He was invited to have sado-masochistic sex and arrangements were made for a meeting in St Peter's Square. Unknown to the older man, the other man, who said he wanted to expose the hypocrisy of the Catholic church, arrived equipped with concealed video and audio recording equipment. Television viewers saw the Vatican official sit alongside his guest and say: 'You're very good-looking.'...'Thank you,' replied the younger man, before putting it to his host that he was about to commit a sin. 'I don't feel it is a sin,' said the official. When the other man insisted that it was at odds with the teaching of the church, the Vatican official brought the conversation to an abrupt end. When his guest bade farewell, saying 'It's been a pleasure,' the Vatican official replied: 'Not for me, because you don't fancy me.'"

Stenico gave an interview to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, in which he denied the charges: "It's all false; it was a trap. I was a victim of my own attempts to contribute to cleaning up the Church with my psychoanalyst work. His aim, he said, was 'to better understand this mysterious and faraway world which, by the fault of a few people — among them some priests — is doing so much harm to the Church.'"

  2. Jesus Christ!!! When will this fucking superstitious religious nonsense ever die?!? How in the hell people can still put their faith in fucking religion when time after time, hypocritical dumbasses like this one are outed?

  3. Mysterious and far away world? That's almost as good as "wide stance." What pathetic lies these people tell.

  4. Isn't a "wide stance", a sin??

  5. WHOOHOO! I'm gonna go set up shop right outside the Vatican and make a fortune! It'll be a new S&M club called "Stanza dell-Innocente!".

What a load! That's about the most juvenile excuse I've heard yet out of the mouth of a priest yet!

Andy, why not cover someone like Alfredo Ormando who seems to have all but disappeared after his insane martyrdom to really push this point home. Okay, so maybe it's a loose connection, but so many have suffered from the inflicted mindset of religion that people like him should not be forgotten. THIS is why people shun us, because of the VERY INCORRECT associations made by the ignorant, and no matter how far along we belive we have come, there are just as many setbacks in the world and incidents that keep us from reaching true equality. For every pathetic example of why social distortions and the demonization of nature are unacceptable, please, please never forget the people that work so hard or actually sacrifice their lives to actually DO something. Don't let this man, driven by depression to do something so drastic be forgotten.

  6. Something does not make sense here - besides the homophobia of the Catholic church. Not the priest soliciting a young man, I can understand that, but it's unclear to me what exactly we are listening to in the YouTube Video. Is this the "Exit" interview captured by the younger man?
Why would a cleric agree to be filmed in silhouette expressing his sexual longing for another man: unless he really believed he was about to "get some." How could the filming be "unknown " to the priest?

  7. OK, why is it that these rabidly homophobic "straight" men are getting more gay action doing "research" than I am as a fully out, healthily horny, card carrying c*cksucker?

I mean, yeah, I know I'm married but Jeeze, so is Peter Labarbara (aka Porno Pete) and this Vatican asshole is married to GOD for Christ's sake (no pun intended) and STILL they seem to be getting more Man on Man action than me. That just can’t be right!

I don't know if I should feel jealous, ashamed or just bitter.

I think I'll go with BITTER for now and see how it goes!

  8. Not to mention that this dude is 60 and has a full head of dark hair - a miracle! My hair's intact (thank you genetics), but by no means entirely black - it's salt and pepper. I suspect the father has been at the Loreal font.

  9. Me thinks I sound BITTER too ... Well, how did this bitch retain his looks?? BY PRAYER?
OK - I'm married too - for real in MA, but a handsome young Italian with video skills could turn my head.

  11. Fairly off topic, but I've seen quite a few 60-ish Italian men with mostly black hair. And it wasn't from a bottle. Some guys are just lucky.

My damn husband is 5 years older than me and he only has maybe 3 grey hairs in comparison to my several thousand! Bastard.

  12. I actually prefer 60+ year old men to have salt and pepper or grey hair. Natural or not, a 60+ year old man with jet black hair just looks unnatural and creepy to me.

I like salt and pepper hair on any man. I think it's sexy as hell.

GREGG, I'm sure you and your husband look just fine with your respective numbers of grey hairs! :)

  13. Off topic but yeah, mediterranean men invented the fountain of youth. Or maybe it's just that they live on its shores(the sea). I dated for a while an italian man 15 years my senior and I swear we'd get carded every where we went together. I saw him a months ago and ummhh...not so youthful anymore!
