Al Gore Faces George W. Bush in Oval Office Meeting
Nobel Peace Prize recipient Al Gore and President George W. Bush met privately for the first time since 2000 in the Oval Office today, the office Gore would have occupied should the presidential election in 2000 have been determined by America's popular vote and not by a Supreme Court decision that stopped the recount in Florida.
The AP reports: "The two men stood next to other, sharing uncomfortable grins for photographers and reporters, who were quickly ushered in and out. 'Familiar faces,' the former vice president said of the media. Bush, still smiling, added nothing. The two also had a 40-minute meeting in the Oval Office, part of Bush's effort to show some outreach to his longtime rival. Bush aides said it was private and would not comment on it. Gore, trailed by the press as he left the White House very publicly on foot, allowed that he and Bush spent the whole time talking about global warming. 'He was very gracious in setting up the meeting and it was a very good and substantive conversation, Gore said. And that's all I want to say about it.'"

If I was Gore, hell would freeze before I would appear in a photo op with this mass murdering SOB.

Let's see:
Gore: world renowned and loved, award-winning humanitarian and statesman.
Bush: hated and ruinous dictator, murderer, and idiot
Like the Annapolis summit, this is lameduck photo-oping for Bush. A desperate measure to make him look relevant (as if he ever was). Someone, please, overdose the monkey prince.

"the office Gore would have occupied" were it not for the "All Or Nothing" Nader Numbskulls—a phenomenon threatening to repeat itself in 2008 in other forms by fresh batches of idiots.
537 Florida votes changed History in 2000.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that 40 minute meeting between Al Gore and that meat puppet.
He looks like a tool in each and every photo. He could wear an Einstein mask and still look like an idiot.

Leland,
I respectfully disagree. Bush stole the election with vote tampering and a rigged Supreme Court. Had the vote count been allowed Mr. Gore would have assumed that office.

Nope, I fully agree with Leland. Nader is a childish spoiler. The GOP certainly had their dirty tricks, but recall---they donated to the Nader campaign in certain swing states, knowing the effect it would have on independent and Democratic voters.
I despise Nader. His ego is worse than Bush's.

The NY Times recount of all Florida ballots found that any recount would have come down to interpreting what qualified as a valid vote. Given the condition of ballots being shuffled about with recounts, there was no true way to count them, so Nader was probably more of a deciding factor, though let's give credit to idiot voters as well. At best Scotus would have sent this over to Congress.

I also worry about the 2008 Nader effect, as it were. So many progressives (online anyway) are saying if Hillary gets the nomination they will not vote for her.
I understand the issues people have with the Senator, but to pretend there's no difference between the Republican field and her candidacy is ridiculous.
I am all for voting your conscience, but learn from 2000 please. Voting your conscience may have a body count attached to it.

"may have a body count attached to it"—perfectly summarized, Marco!
ALL of the several evaluations of Florida votes, undercount, overcount, etc., indicate a difference of less than 500 votes in whom would have won given any way of counting except the one certified which was, again, 537 votes.
Nader got 97 THOUSAND+ Florida votes and the Libertarian candidate took another 16 THOUSAND+.
There is NO reason to believe that the majority of them would not have voted for Gore had Nader and Browne not been on the ballot. Had their deluded, selfish followers thrown their votes away, the way of counting "valid" ballots could have remained exactly the same, all the illegal tricks by the Repugs [e.g., disqualifying voters they believed would vote for Gore]could have stayed the same, and it would not have gone to a manipulated US Supreme Court, or even the Florida Supreme Court, and, among other consequences, several thousand Americans and Iraqis would still be alive.

Hmm, isn't time to move on here people, let things go and move on. There is a presidential election next year and if you don't like Bush and the Republican party vote differently. He is not my favorite president but reality is, he is and will be till next year. Anger and resentment take a lot of energy and can take you away from making this a better world for all of us particularly the future generations.

Sorry, Jeff. We have over 6,000 dead Americans - just plain ole gay, straight, black, white, Asian, etc. - AMERICANS since Bush took office. I WILL NOT MOVE ON. I am so sick of hearing "get over it. you're angry....blah blah."
I am not angry, I am FURIOUS and it's not furious hatred for the man, it's furious hatred of his policies. Policies that have tarnished and harmed the country I am born to and love so much to the point that it is maddening to me.
And don't give me any shit about resentment and anger. This country should be screaming about what's being done in its name. Screaming! The fact that so many seems so nonchalant about the war and the seemingly endless parade of shame brought on by Bush and his cohorts boggles my mind. I'd say I am stunned, but it's the vast majority of the country who truly are.

I got a transcript!!!!
W: "I hear you made some kind of a movie? Will it play in my VCR?"
AG: "You don't have a DVD player, and you know the time is 2:35, not 12:00?"
W: "Yeah, you know how to make that thing stop blinking?"
AG: "Ahhh... yes, George, I do... see that red button next to your phone?"
W: "Yeah?"
AG: "Press it. Go on, push it"
W: "Always wanted to do that [he he he], Uncle Dickie said I should contact him first, though"
AG: "No, just go on and push the red button"
W: "And that will fix my VCR"
AG: "That button will turn your VCR into the latest, state of the art media device, and it will make you the primary decider in Global Warming"
W: "Woo-HOO! " When does that 12:00 go away? Still blinking, Al"
AG: "I gotta go, George."
