Drag Queen Arrested for 18 Serial Murders of Gay Men in France

French police have a arrested, Nicolas Panard, a 68-year-old man who reportedly makes his living as a drag queen for the murders of 18 men in eastern France and Paris, most of whom were gay, between the years of 1980 and 2002.

PanardAgence France Presse reports: "Detained Tuesday in the eastern city of Mulhouse, the man was being held in nearby Montbeliard along with another suspect who is already serving a murder sentence in a Paris jail, the source said. Both men deny the accusations, according to the prosecution, which said it had "no formal proof" of their guilt at this stage. L'Alsace newspaper said the key suspect worked as a female impersonator and that his arrest followed a two-year investigation by a Montbeliard police officer, who spotted his name in database files relating to a string of unsolved murders."

According to the BBC, "... the arrests were the result of two years' work by a police officer based in Montbeliard who had originally only been investigating a murder in 1991 in nearby Sochaux. By using a police crime database, the officer found mentions of Mr Panard's name in the case files of several unsolved murders, the paper reported. The officer also discovered several common features in the murders, including that the victims had all been killed by blows to the head followed by multiple knife wounds, it added. Each time the victims' bodies were found partly naked, but with their faces covered."

The photo at right, via BBC, shows the sealed door of Panard's home and the locations of the various murders.

  1. Yikes.

Just goes to show ya... one should never criticize a drag queen's outfit. Most are pleasant folks, but when a queen snaps, look out...

  2. If Panard is a drag queen perfomer (doesn't go in drag off the stage), then his drag has nothing to do with the story. He's simply a sick homo killing Gay people.

Gracious, even straight trashy journalist know what fun it is to pit Gay men against transfolk: "Drag queen killing Gay men" Oh, please.

  6. "...nothing to do with the story"

Well, what I meant was the drag has nothing to do with the NEWS story. If you're talking about a screenplay, it has everything to do with the story.

Our we being a little callous here? We've already turned it into a movie. If I wanted the part would I have to play it in white face? Who knows, if it's France the evil bitch could've been any race.

That's all right, I'd rather play Dorian Corey. "She" kept a mummified copse with her through 3 or 4 New York City apartments. A piece of trade got nasty and tried to rob Queen Dorian. "She" hit him with an ashtray and killed him... piece of trade must've had a weak skull, hunh?

  7. ah Derrick, when you mention Dorian Corey, you mention someone very dear to my heart. what a wise old queen she was. and when are they going to make Paris is Burning the musical? wouldn't it be just fabulous. we could get harvey fierstein to play dorian ... in blackface of course.

  8. Derrick, are you serious? I have never heard this story before.

  9. Abosultely, Sebastian.

I'm not sure about the ashtray. I thought Queen Dorian shot him, but "she" hit him with something. The fantastic part is, many New York City "children" knew about the mummy, or had heard rumors that Queen Dorian kept a mummy in "her" various apartments for years. Talk about being a marginalized segment of the Gay World--the police paid no attention to the rumors all those years. THank God!

  10. Who should play the lead role in the upcoming movie? I nominate Ian McKellan!

  11. This is funny/scary. However, the following is just plain funny. Memphis drag queens throw down in a Memphis McDonald's - just hilarious.

  12. Wasn't the last prominent French serial killer a drag queen, too? What the hell is going on over there?

  13. I liked this better when it was called Killer Drag Queens on Dope. Alexis Arquette totally rocked in that movie.

  14. I think all of the years of taping her schlong to her thigh really pushed her over the edge. Can't wait for the movie on LOGO!

  15. This story is scary and hilarious all at the same time. I wasn't even alive in 1980.

I can't wait to see the movie on this one.
