Cmdr. John Thomas Matthew Lee] is facing include allegations of sodomy, aggravated assault, indecent assault, fraternization and conduct unbecoming a military officer, according to a statement issued by the Marine Corps officials Tuesday night."

Doveroad.jpg Banksy receives endorsement from British parliament: "Notorious graffiti artist Banksy received the stamp of approval from the establishment after his latest work was praised by MPs. Banksy recently targeted the Holy Land with a series of stencilled works on the security wall in Bethlehem. Veteran Labour MP Gerald Kaufman (Manchester Gorton) tabled a motion saying that his depictions were a far more accurate portrayal of life in the Holy Land than the images presented by the Israeli government." The street artist recently opened his annual Santa's Ghetto boutique in the West Bank.

road.jpg The city museum of The Hague pulls exhibit featuring Muhammed depicted as gay: "The picture, made by Iranian artist Sooreh Hera, is entitled Adam and Ewald and shows two gay men wearing masks of the Muslim prophet Mohammed and his son-in-law Ali. It is part of a photoseries the Gemeentemuseum has included in the 7up exhibition due to open on December 15. The Gemeentemuseum’s director Wim van Krimpen told reporters the museum is interested in purchasing Hera’s complete series, which he called 'high quality works of art'. However, he added he will not exhibit Adam and Ewald in the next few years because 'certain people in our society might perceive it as offensive'." After the teddy bear incident in Sudan, is anyone surprised?

  1. Seriously? You're gonna pile on Chelsea Clinton? She sat down on a step to catch a bit of WiFi and coffee. How is that odd or any different than sitting on a front step or a courthouse, business or home? Or grabbing a seat at a park?

    WTF, Andy?

  2. Did anyone else read Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy? In it Russia pulls off an elaborate hoax where the Kremlin in bombed so they can blame Germany and have a reason to invade western Europe for the purpose of getting their hands on the west's oil supplies.

I don't believe for a minute that 9/11 was an American hoax, but the similarities would be pretty chilling if it was.

  3. Mike I think you're taking the item far more seriously than it was intended. If you're reading insult into it, it's coming from your perspective, not mine.

  6. Cossiga was president more than 15 years ago. Can't see how he knows diddly about "all the [intelligence services] of America and Europe." The current Italian govt. doesn't even know this.

  7. Andy, did you read what was written at the site you linked to? It basically said she was filthy for sitting on the floor. That's probably cleaner than the average seat on a NY Subway.

  8. It seems that is not only in California that celebrities get special treatment. Ireland is not immune to throwing the towel when it comes to a celebrity. Good for you J. Rhys Meyers, you certainly know how to pick the country to break the law and get away with it. By the way, your Henry the VIII was terrible. To begin with Henry was redhaired and stouter and taller that you. Bad characterization all around. Vomit...

  9. Andy, thanks for the post about Hujar. I hadn't thought of his work in a long time. I used to imagine what the creative/political/life energy might have been like between him and David Wojnarowicz. Wojnarowicz' 'Closer to the Knives' was a watershed for me. Knowing they were together gave my brain a hard-on.

  11. The idea that Europeans are our moral betters never seems to hold up under scrutiny. We have labor party members only criticizing Israel and not Hamas et al, and former Italian presidents sounding like crackpot fascists. What fun!

  12. Sorry, but I'm with the Italian President, unpopular as his opinion may be. This would not be the first time American intelligence planned an attack on Americans to instigate a war--look into The Bay of Pigs plans that President Kennedy vetoed. This isn't speculation, it's recorded fact. And has one shred of truth been relayed to the American people about the Iraq war? From blaming Iraq for the Trade Towers attack to WMD, we've been lied to non-stop to involve us in, and escalate the war. Do you really think it's beyond this country to kill 2,000 citizens for endless oil reserves and the destabilization of the MIddle East? How many soldiers and innocent Iraqis have already died for the same reason?

Okay, involving Israel seems to be pushing it...but I trust the CIA as far as I could throw a buffalo...

  13. "from blaming Iraq for the Trade Towers attack to WMD"

No official blamed Iraq as a statement of fact. Go read the commission report. Iraq's WMD program was believed any and all sides of the political spectrum for years before 9/11 and after and by many western nations. A fear of a WMD program was one among many reasons given that Iraq was invaded. That's why there were UN inspections for years but then they were banned by Saddam while Clinton was still president.

The US has a huge wealth of oil in AK, CA and FL that environmentalists refuse to allow it to tap. You think we want Iraq's oil and want to keep the prices high? That big profit is the other half of the conspiracy you seem to subscribe to.

There's no logic in that. The prices are high because the perceived risk of supply interruption is high. If it was clearly under US control the price per barrel would collapse. No "big oil" profits if we had the oil. If the companies could access our domestic oil, which they lobby Congress and the states to do, what would happen to the price?

If it was a gov't conspiracy about oil why do minimum MPG standards go up, why is there ethanol, electric hybrids, biodiesel, natural gas, flex fuel and hydrogen vehicle research often with gov't grants?

Most of our foreign oil comes from Canada and Mexico. About 80% does not come from the Middle East. Check the Dept. of Energy website. This info isn't hidden.

Were their oil price problems before the war? Yes. Will there be oil price problems after the war? Of course. Should we leave Iraq tomorrow and see if the Middle East stabilizes and oil keeps freely flowing from Iraq? No because it won't stabilize tomorrow. Are you doing everything you personally can to reduce your power consumption or do you too just want the benefits of more oil?

If you'll believe the other, why is involving Israel in such a plot "pushing it"?

  14. Some of the comments here support the fact that the left wing also harbors conspiracy nuts. Tin foil hats anyone?

    Posted by: 207guy | Dec 6, 2007 11:57:47 AM

  15. Queendru....you seem pretty ignorant of some basic facts. While it is try that there was no link between Saddam and 9/11, it did not stop those high up in Bush regime, and the right wing media, from pushing the opposite. This was to such a point that most of the US public belived it.
The same is also true about the lie that Saddam prevented searchs....Hans Blix, and the fact that no weapons or programme was every found, would seem to point to the opposite.

As for oil in the USA and those evil environemntlists prevetning it from being dug up....the truth is that the USA has no major reserves left. The much vaunted ANWR would provide just 6 months of the US oil supply. The US uses so much oil that shoe of a significant reduction in oil consumption, the idea of self-sufficeny is silly.
Fianlly, while the US does get the bulk of its oil from Canada and Mexico, it is still a globally traded commdity, so supply from the middle east has a direct impact on prices and avalability in other countires, even the USA.

If you want to look into the REAL reason the USA invaded Iraq, planning to invade Iran and the whole Chavez thing, look that problem, at least for the US, in the switch to € instead of US$ for the international oil trade (hint, Iraq had switched to the € before being invaded and Iran is planning to).
