Cardinal Follows Pope's Lead, Condemning Gays in Peace Message

Snowglobevatican

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, England and Wales' Roman Catholic Spiritual leader, followed the lead of his superior in the Vatican, whose peace message for New Year's I wrote about in mid-December. In that speech, which Pope Benedict gave as promised on New Year's Day, the Pope ranked same-sex marriage with nuclear arms proliferation, environmental pollution, economic inequality, abortion, and birth control as threats to world peace.

MurphyoconnorMurphy O'Connor did the same, according to Ekklesia:

"He claimed that most parents did not want their children to be taught that marriage was nothing more than 'one lifestyle choice among many', urged parents to bring God into their homes, and said the 'traditional family' remained central to the well-being of society but was being dangerously eroded. Society was slowly waking up to the dangers of climate change and pollution for the planet, said the Cardinal, but seemed largely oblivious to the destruction of the family. His remarks will be criticised by those who will see them as, in part, a thinly-veiled assault on equality legislation for homosexuals and others, which the Church has rigorously opposed in 2007, claiming that they undermine marriage - a contention rejected as simplistic and one-sided by many others, Christian and otherwise."

  1. Tough shit, he's lost the argument. The law is changed and no govt here will repeal that, not now there are so many openly gay MPs in all the major parties.

  3. I'm guessing more people will start listening to the leaders of the Catholic Church as soon as priests stop molesting children.

  4. There's an old joke with a punch line delivered in an ethnic accent and the punch line is: "If you don't play the game, you don't get to make the rules". Pope-bunny and Cardinal-kitty both need to get out in the real world and get their hands dirty--you know, WORK for a living, worry about bills and feeding your children and finding a job and paying the rent. Then, they need to check the history of their church honestly and then understand that if there is ever a clear and present danger to the family, it is their church! What vile, hateful, embittered, unkind, unloving and thoroughly wretched men they are!

  5. Religion -- and particularly the Catholic Church -- has always been on the side of the oppressors, the totalitarians, the murderers and such.

The fact that Catholicism = Power makes (and will forever make) it has always been necessary that they do so.

  6. Nowhere in the Bible is a condemnation of same sex marriage. When I read it, love IS the message. Love your brother is the message. Treat your brother as you would want to be treated. We are all one flesh in Christ. He who loves the least among us is exalted. Whatsoever you do to the least of your brothers, that you do unto me. Thats the message I get and Im not even a religious person.
These people in the funny hats, or sitting on the thrones on the trinity network make this shit up. When are the people of the world going to stand these liars down?

  7. .....and furthermore there is no evil surrounding being gay in the bible. None whatsoever. Zero. The bible supports all love and friendships between anyone. The anti sodomy stance is not an anti same sex love stance. Its more than likely criticized for health reasons. An abomination is uncleanliness. Lots of other things were considered unclean back then, as even now. Its advising strongly against an activity considered unclean, not against relationships. Why even women are told not to do it. You see its the act, that both gay and straights do, that is at issue for the deuteronomy writer, not the relationships themselves. Same sex love is held in high esteem, See Jonathan and David's story. Men need to be close to other men. The god of the bible doesnt forbid it.
This whole anti-gay foolishness is made up by politicians and religious phonies in order to control you.
