Tom Cruise's Scientology Speech
You may have heard about Tom Cruise's 9-minute acceptance speech for the Freedom Medal of Valor award he accepted at an International Association of Scientologists event. It keeps disappearing from YouTube, but here it is, while it lasts.
A former Scientologist commenter at RADAR has offered some of the definitions for Cruise's Scientology-speak:
KSW (short for Keeping Scientology Working): A policy written by
Hubbard in the 1960's that requires all Scientologists to follow his
words and his rules exactly.
Orgs: Orgs is an abbreviation for "organizations" and describes
all churches of Scientology throughout the world.
David Miscavige: He is the current leader of Scientology.
He's the equivalent of the Pope to the Catholics.
Out-ethics: any behavior that violates any of Hubbard's
rules of conduct.
Put ethics in on someone else: make others conform
to Hubbard's rules of behavior.
Criminon: Scientology front group that tries to recruit through the prisons.
SP: Suppressive Person. Anyone that doesn't like Scientology and/or criticizes Scientology.
PTS/SP: another bogus Hubbard term to define behavior that goes
against Scientology rules.
LRH technology or "tech": all the Scientology policies, rules, mandates, procedures.
Basically everything Hubbard wrote that controls the behavior of Scientologists.
Kind of makes those Andrew Morton claims a lot more believable, eh?

Transcript highlights, via US Weekly, AFTER THE JUMP...
Tom Cruise: ...I think it’s a privilege to call yourself a Scientologist, and it’s something that you have to earn because a Scientologist does... has the ability to create new and better realities and improve conditions. Being a Scientologist, you look at someone and know absolutely that you can help them.
"When you're a Scientologist, and you drive by an accident, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one who can really help. We are the authorities on getting people off drugs. We are the authorities on the mind.... We are the way to happiness. We can bring peace and unite cultures. Now is the time. Being a Scientologist. People are turning to you. If you are a Scientologist, you see things the way they are, in all their glory, in all their complexity... It's rough and tumble. It's wild and woolly. It's a blast. It really is. It is fun. Because damn it, there is nothing better than going out there and fighting the fight, and suddenly you see -- boom! -- things are better. I want to know that I've done everything I can do, every day... I do what I can. And I do it the way I do everything."
"But that’s what drives me... I know that we have an opportunity to really help... effectively change people’s lives and I am dedicated to that. I am absolutely, uncompromisingly dedicated to that.
"We have a responsibility.
"We are the authorities on getting people off drugs, we are the authorities on the mind, we are the authorities on improving conditions... we can rehabilitate criminals.
"...We can bring peace and unite cultures...
"Traveling the world and meeting the people that I’ve met, talking with these leaders in various fields, they want help and they are depending on people who know and who can be effective and do it and that’s us. That is our responsibility to do that.
"It is the time now. Now is the time... Being a Scientologist, people are turning to you, so you better know it, you better know it and if you don’t, go and learn it, but don’t pretend you know it. It’s like we’re here to help.
"If you’re a Scientologist, you see life, you see things the way they are, in all its glory, all of its complexity and the more you know as a Scientologist, you don’t become overwhelmed by it.
"Look, I wish the world was a different place. I’d like to go on vacation and go and romp and play and just do that, you know what I mean. That’s what I want it to be. There’s times I’d like to do that, but I can’t because I know I have to do something about it.
"I have to do it because I can’t live with myself if I don’t, and that really is it.
"So it’s our responsibility to educate, create the new reality. We have that responsibility to say, 'Hey, this is the way it should be done because we do it this way and people are actually getting better.'
"And let’s get it done. Let’s really get it done and have enough love and compassion and toughness that you’re really going to do it and do it right.
"I have to tell you something – it is rough and tumble, and it’s wild and wooly, and it’s a blast, it’s a blast, it really is fun because, dammit, there is nothing better than the going out there and fighting the fight and suddenly you see things are better.
"I want to know that I’ve done everything I could everyday, and I think about those people out there who are depending on us. I think about that and it does make me feel that we’ve got more work. I need more help, get those spectators either in the playing field or out of the arena. Really, that’s how I feel about it.
"I do what I can, and I do it the way I do everything. [laughs] There’s nothing part-of-the way for me."

The constant repetition of meaningless jargon and jigoistic phrases only indicates the lack of any substantive experience, and worse, disintegrating psychology.

Hasn't it been recorded that Miz Cruise is slightly autistic? Repetition is the only thing he knows. I'm not sure he understands or is capable of understanding what he's actually saying--they're just words with someone telling him what they mean.
BTW, "SP - suppressive person"? Isn't that ironic since that's what Scientology is all about? You HAVE to think like L Ron Hubbard or you're a baaaaad person. You HAVE to think like the Pope or you're a bad person. You have to think like a Mullah or you're a bad person. Free will, anyone? Isn't that what God gave us? Anyone who thinks differently is a meglomaniac.

Tell us about XENU, Tom.
"I wonder why it matters one whit to anyone what Tom Cruise (or any other pretend "personality") says or does or believes?"
It matters because Cruise is very popular and his particular cult ensnares people while depriving them of their money. You could say as much about most religions but L Ron Hubbard designed Scientology to be a money-making machine from the outset. Read Bare-Faced Messiah for details.

Nice to see Crowley quoted on Towleroad. Hubbard was associated with Jack Parsons' Californian branch of the OTO in the Forties (before he ran off with Parsons' wife) and is on the record as praising Crowley, something that was later vehemently denied by LRH and Scientologists.

Interesting...
"SP: Suppressive Person. Anyone that doesn't like Scientology and/or criticizes Scientology"
Bill O'Reilly uses the term SP all the time - except that he applies it to Secular Progressives. Replace 'Scientology' with 'Christianity' in the above definition and it just might work!
BTW: I AM one of those SPs that scientology is so fond of. Heh-heh-heh...

The video, and all copies on youtube, are gone! ;-(

"The Freedom Medal of Valor" award??? They really do need some better writers.
Oh wait, L. Ron Hubbard was the last writer, and everything comes from him. Idiots.

The video is gone again. Thanks for posting the transcript.

So I'm not big on conspiracy theories, however I found it strange that I was able to watch the video but when I went to download it and access youtube.com again, the site had crashed! Puzzling! My vote: Scientology uploaded a virus to crash the servers. HAHA, overactive imagination I know. Did anyone else have trouble even getting on youtube today between 11:30 and noon CST?

I rather think Mr Cruise deserves the Freedom Medal of Valor. It does take some valour to come up with such complete & utter bollocks and freely announce it to the world, and thus put the ethics onto all of us SPs.
If only the rest of his orgs would stop running like hamsters on wheels to extract all video copies of his scintillating speech.
I just have a couple of Qs to ask Mr Cruise ...
Were Jesus Christ, Buddha & the Prophet Mohammad Scientologists?
When their criminons (btw are they like related to Klingons & have those nifty ridges on their heads?) divest the drugs off the presumable rehabilitated criminals, do they give these all to Mr Cruise?
Lastly (OK, I lied & cannot count), can Mr Cruise share these drugs please?
Signed,
SP who will Convert If Mr Cruise Share the Drugs Before He puts the Ethics on Me

"I do what I can, and I do it the way I do everything. [laughs] There’s nothing part-of-the way for me." TC
Well Tom you are right on that statement, you are a total nut job.
Katie take the baby and get out of the house!!!!!
It sounds like TC is rehearsing for Dustin Hoffman's role in Rain Man.

I know alot of $cientologists. They think that gays are nothing but an aberration that alot of "auditing" will cure. We all had "bad experiences" in our past lives with women, so that in our present life, we turn gay and like men. Scientology have alot of hatred toward homosexuality

What a himbo...
Posted by: Bernie | Jan 15, 2008 8:38:57 PM
He reminds me of Michael Scott in the Office.
Two things, it seems like he's talking about communism.
And, he's rich as hell so he can 'help' people without holding down a job.
Posted by: Tes Crazy | Jan 15, 2008 10:05:26 PM
Wow, Culty McCult is a complete nutjob. Oh I'm SUCH an SP! Just try to put your ethics on me, freak. I've got your ethics right here!
Seriously, to speak for nine minutes and say absolutely nothing of any substance is pretty impressive. It's almost Bush-like. Maybe they can sign George W. up after his lame duck ass is out of office. He'd fit right in with the blabbering and not saying anything meaningful. The most empty, brainless crap I've ever heard anyone spout. This Scientology crap is "intelligently designed" for truly dim bulbs.

LOL He isn't even saying anything. It's all these and those and its and people and pronoun after pronoun after pronoun. LOL
"Get on the playing field or get out of the arena"? LOL His metaphors suck, too. ROFL He sounds like professional football players when they try to sound intelligent in interviews. *hugs* poor little Tommy

I actually feel sorry for this man. He's utterly trapped by this thing isn't he. He's telling us we're all trapped but he's trapped. It's another prison of his own making. He's not actually seeing people, or living, he's existing in a haze.
That's the irony. He's no nearer enlightenment because he's not seeing reality. He thinks he sees, what he's talking about is illusions and wordplays. It's not sorting anything out.
What's his difference between "those people out there I need to help" and a "spectator" or an "SP". It's fucking rude man! I would be pissed as fuck if he thought of me/called me an "SP" just because I didn't agree with his "faith". So disrespectful. They really are fakers.

What a complete and utter moron. Let's just hope Katie and the baby escapes this madness.

After lisenting to Mr. Cruise it only affirms why I dislike him as well as distrust him.....I also count my blessings that this is not the time of Hitler, he (TC)would be scheduling the trains to help expidite this "perfect" world of his!

Babbling, talking in circles, pregnant pauses. I'm confused.
Posted by: Tintin Malfoy | Jan 18, 2008 4:48:18 PM
Frankly, I think he seems like such a wacko maybe it's this "religion" that allowed him to not only survive but succeed enormously. As long as what he's doing doesn't harm anyone else, let him have his "faith".
