  1. Look, Bill Clinton may have failed to live upto expectations on many fronts, but he was the first sitting president to talk about homosexuality as if he were addressing human beings rather than a "disease" or "social problem." And I think gays who remember only DADT and DOMA tend to underestimate the cultural impact of his presidency.

The phenomenon of having characters in movies and TV shows really took off during the Clinton years. Social tolerance certainly improved after the closeted conservatism of the 1980s. The President of the United States had openly gay friends. The President of the United States wasn't afraid to campaign into queer neighborhoods like the Village, Hollywood, or SoMa.

Is that better than ENDA or same-sex marriage? I don't think so. But credit where credit is due. The Clintons made the g-word seem less scary to many, many people in middle-class white America. And that was a good thing.

  3. Gays shouldn't be so down on the LCR. Instead of just dismissing republicans they are trying to work with them. They are trying to make republicans a more tolerant party towards gays. That's a good thing for all gays since we often have a republican prez so they should recieve more respect.
Remember that not every gay person has to follow the same path to create positive change in this world. That's the meaning of the ad I think and it's beautiful.

ps-Remember that before DADT there was an outright ban on gays in the military...this legislation is vilinized nowadays (as it should be) but remember when Clinton introducted it it was a an improvement at least.

  4. Oh yeah, Clinton was forced to sign DOMA and DADT in the middle of night because of the mean old Republicans. LOL!! Nobody ever accused Clinton of being "President Backbone". GayDems still making excuses for the Democrats then, and making excuses for the Democrats now. Over a year in Congress and not a thing to show for it! Dems could be in Congress for 20 years and all Liberal GayDems would get out of it are smelly brown noses. You been duped! You been had! And the only things you have to show for it are your bile and disdain for the human race.

Gay Democrats: What a waste of flesh and bone.
