Sam Harris Declares War on War

Broadway performer and recording artist Sam Harris has released a new anti-war song for which he's urging fans to create a video.

SamharrisHarris writes on his website: "We are in an exciting and volatile time in history. The presidential candidate for the Republican Party has expressed that we should prepare for a 100 year war in Iraq. There are others of us who say Enough! We are finally seeing a nation begin to mobilize and rise in a call for change. I am proud to be a part of that change. I welcome your talents to do the same by joining me. Together we can make change more than just a dream. I look forward to your creations!"

Harris' career began, you may recall, when he won the premiere season of Star Search back in 1983.

  1. McCain was not calling for 100 years of war in Iraq. Agree with him or not, he was declaring his commitment to base American troops in Iraq for 100 years -- in the same way that we have troops in South Korea, Germany, and other locations around the world. Both Obama and Clinton would never call for a withdrawal of forces from those countries, so this is hardly an extremist position.

It's too bad Sam deems it necessary to willfully misrepresent a position in order to strengthen his.

  2. It's a decent idea and a good message, but I have to say the song really sucks. No- really.

  3. What a bold statement. I can't wait until he also releases the provocative "Bad Holocaust Bad."

  4. um, I totally disagree. song is catchy, timely, and Sam sounds great!

as for misrepresentation, I think the other side has set quite a precedent for spinning the truth, so frankly I think nit picking Sam's take on McCain is just a handy way to miss the point.

  5. Sam is right and I love the song and screw McCain. He's a republican, he'd love to have us there for a 100 years, war for 100 years or occupying for 100 years, I say no to both!

  6. Um, there are no American soldiers and profiteering contractors killed or maimed or blown up in Germany and South Korea because unlike Iraq, we are not occupying them in the middle of a civil war where every faction wants to kill Americans.

100 years in Iraq means hundreds of Americans dead per year and a permanent recession for the expense of it -- except for Halliburton, who will collect all the government contract money and rape the female American employees without any punishment. That's what McCain endorses. Flip-flopping puta.

McCain says he doesn't know anything about economics, which disqualifies him from being President, but really this 100 years statement ESPECIALLY proves he knows nothing about the Mideast either. Stupid Republican. Like all of them.

  7. Gee, i wish we all could live in that wonderful fantasyland where everybody lives in peace and harmony and sings Sam Harris songs all day long about not wanting war. Too bad it does not exist.

Mike is 100% correct about the McCain statements. Its not american presence in iraq that is the problem, it is casualties. We have bases all over the world, nobody makes up stupid songs about having toops in Germany, S. Korea, etc. Strategy should be taking the time necessary to get the government of that country in line and under control. Or we can just raise the white flag of surrender....while whistling a happy Star Search '83 tune.

  8. First of all, this song friggin rocks. It's about fucking time.

And where the hell does he mention the word "McCain"? He doesn't. A little defensive over a fossil that will never win.

  9. Well, coming from a guy that did time during Vietnam I love the song. War sucks and anything that speaks against it I support.

  10. meh...it's not as catchy as "Sugar Don't Bite"

  11. Why doesn't Sam Harris write a song giving a completely non-violent strategy for defeating the Islamist terrorists and their allies?

Harris' complaining about others' willingness to use violence against the violent is just a pacifist's attempt at proclaiming his moral superiority.

  12. Hey, buds...this is a gay blog--supporting McCain and his war machine is like the Jews supporting Hitler.

Yes, there is terrorism, but it's time for a new approach. Fear, hate and killing are tactics of evil terrorists, not of the true American I love. I support Sam Harris and any attempt to stimulate our population to get off their asses and fight back.

You war-mongers are soon going to be out of business. That's why you're running scared.

  13. I love the message! However, I must agree, the song kinda sucks. I wish the message were being delivered through a better platform.

  14. Hey bud - i guess if you are gay you have to march in lock step with the pacificsts who want to burry their heads in the sand and sings songs and hope that a good strong round of hugs will solve the worlds problems. Not this one.

  15. War, what War? We don't have a War? What are you talking about? That seems to be the attitude on capital hill. I sat a talked with a active army man in the Social Security Office that had just come home. He's been in the army for 26 years. Enlisted time and time again, and he said the battle we're fighting now, is unjust, insane, cruel, undiplomatic, unsafe, and losing ground among the fighting few of ours. Did anyone know that they are recruiting Mexican civilians to fight and promising them citizenship if they do, cause we can't get enough of our own citizens to fight, Um, wonder why. People are wising up, realizing the truths, the fake bureaucracy, the weaknesses of government. Government is suppose to represent the people, (the masses) not the popular. Sam's song is dead on it, finally someone has realized that history repeats itself, I smell 60's in it, and love it. Good for you Mr. Harris. Kudos'.

  16. >>>supporting McCain and his war machine is like the Jews supporting Hitler.<<<

One of the most stupid and most offensive things I have ever read! The two are just not comparable in any way, shape of form.
