First Look: Tropic Thunder Trailer

Downeyjr

At the beginning of the month I posted about Tropic Thunder, the forthcoming Ben Stiller movie-within-a-movie in which Robert Downey Jr. plays an actor who decides to color his skin black when he's assigned a role which was originally written to be played by a black man.

Downey, Jr. acknowledged the risk: "If it's done right, it could be the type of role you called Peter Sellers to do 35 years ago. If you don't do it right, we're going to hell. At the end of the day, it's always about how well you commit to the character. I dove in with both feet. If I didn't feel it was morally sound, or that it would be easily misinterpreted that I'm just C. Thomas Howell in [Soul Man], I would've stayed home."

The full trailer for the film has just been released. Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP (warning: autoplay)...

  2. I would watch it, and then make fun of it. Yes, it does look kind of bad, and that is half the fun to me. And Robert Downey Jr looks decent, at leat to me.

  3. This looks hilarious!

It's a comedy. It's supposed to be silly. If you want to go around being political and miserable and serious 24/7, just keep it to yourself. Being fun and funny isn't always going to be accompanied by an important social message and be nominated for seven Oscars.

    Lighten up folks.

  4. Andy, please oh please don't post autoplay videos. Even when you stick them behind the cut, they show up and start autoplaying in your RSS feed. I spent 30 seconds trying to figure out which of the 50 feeds I'd pulled up in Google Reader was now assaulting me with helicopter noises and shouting.
