Streaker Leveled by Australian Cricket Player

Symonds_streaker

Australian cricket player Andrew Symonds had the opportunity to "blow off some steam," according to The Age, when a streaker appeared on the field during a match Tuesday night:

"During the 10th over, play was held up as the male streaker showed security a clean pair of heels - and a whole lot more. But as the smug pitch invader rounded Symonds to complete his naked lap, the burly Queenslander put on a hit that left the intruder air-borne - and the crowd gasping. Security quickly pounced as a nonchalant Symonds hardly moved at the non-striker's end, as if it was all in a day's work."

Symonds may pay a stiff penalty for the bruising: "Symonds could face a serious punishment if the International Cricket Council decides that he breached section 4.2 of the player's code of conduct relating to a physical assault of a rival player, an official or a spectator. It carries a ban ranging anywhere from five Test matches or 10 limited-overs internationals up to a life ban. The spectator is expected to be fined $3,000 for invading the pitch - but faces a possible jail term for wilful exposure."

  1. It seems a little excessive since the streaker really is only providing entertainment.
Perhaps the player was ...jealous...of what he saw??

  2. Why can't American streakers be that in shape? White boy does NOT have an ass though...

  4. Symonds punishment should be getting naked and being hit with a stick! Jeez.

  6. I've asked a few times, and it doesn't seem like anyone is listening. NSFW "after the jump" pics/vids don't play nice with RSS readers. They show the whole post. Can you PLEASE figure out another way to post them? I took Towleroad out of my feeds for now. *cry*

  9. I agree with Michael W.: the streaker had it coming. I'm paying to see the game, not watch your skinny ass run around.

  10. Um... I mean I agree with "Mary... etc."

  11. That streaker looked HOT...wish we had video of him from the other side! I sincerely hope the player who checked him is severely punished by his league. Of course, it happened in Australia, so there won't be a lawsuit, but I do wish he's sue the pants off Symonds!

  12. Excuse me? "He had it coming?" "I'm paying to see the game...? How frickin' tight-assed can you get? It's a funny thing to do. And this guy had a nice build--it's not like we were treated to some fat, hairy slob waddling his carcass around the field. Jesus.

  13. Actually, it's already been determined that the streaker will be fined, but Symonds won't face any charges.

    Posted by: Jerry | Mar 6, 2008 2:21:11 PM

  14. Thing is, the way the league sees it, the streaker comprised a security threat, and, at least in principle, Symonds was defending himself.

  15. These athletes are under enough pressure from the fans who remain in their seats. I don't blame Symonds at all. This guy willfully disrupted the proceedings. Seems appropriate for the nearest player to willfully disrupt the streaker's proceedings. All Symonds did was body check him into open space. They were facing each other. You can see in the photo that the streaker had time to see what was coming and to brace himself. He may have a bruise on his ass, but I doubt he's much hurt. It's a cricket pitch, not a parking lot. If he has the brass to run around the pitch stark nude, I doubt he'll be embarrassed by a little tumble.

  16. Streaker had some significant "dangle action" going on. LOL. Maybe the player WAS a bit envious.

So if the guy did not have a nice build and was 'some fat, hairy slob waddling his carcass around the field' it would not be OK. Nice logic there Sir.

To get to a point where you are one of the few who gets to be on that field to play takes a lot of work. For some silly a**hole to think it's alright to go running into him, look at the video. The douche bag got what I would have done.

  18. you call that a nice build?!...his ass is flat and saggy.. shudder

    Posted by: Yuck | Mar 6, 2008 11:10:56 PM

  19. symonds should get fined and suspended. lot's of things happen at sporting events that you're not there to see. the answer isn't physical violence. skinny, fat, doesn't matter. symonds is a prick.

by the logic above, if straight guys go to club and aren't there to see a gay guy, then it's OK to hit him?

    preposterous.

    Posted by: David | Mar 6, 2008 11:26:30 PM

  20. That's a stupid analogy.

The streaker was disrupting a professional game of sport. He was doing something illegal. Symonds just stopped it. And it's not like he went charging after the streaker.

If you're gonna take your clothes off and run around on a sports field being televised live around the country, I think it's a bit rich to then say you're the victim.

    Posted by: Glenn | Mar 6, 2008 11:52:26 PM

  21. Jerry... the League thinks this guy is a
security threat? The guy was NAKED... where is he hiding a weapon? The players all have bats... if anyone is in danger, it's the streaker. Yes, it's a bonehead thing to do, but it's hardly dangerous to the players.

    Posted by: GraphicJack | Mar 7, 2008 12:19:13 AM

  22. perhaps, the next time that he gets the urge to streak, he should drink some windex...i here it keeps you from streaking.

  23. by the logic above, if straight guys go to club and aren't there to see a gay guy, then it's OK to hit him?

    preposterous.

    Posted by: David | Mar 6, 2008 11:26:30 PM
    --------------------
    WTF?

How does a person running into you while you are doing your job, with or without clothes on, compare to someone hitting someone because he is thought to be gay and is in a club that they deem straight?

The only thing preposterous is your line of logic.
