NYC's Fuerzabruta Launching 'Boys Night'

Fuerzabruta

Fuerzabruta, the wet and wild, techno music romp with the mylar overhead swimming stage is about to launch their "Boy's Night" on May 16th. They promise 'Boys Night' will "feature remixed scenes and choreography – putting the men of Fuerzabruta in the water and at the fore." For those of you who haven't seen it, this is probably a good time.

Our Kevin Sessums reviewed it here. I had the opportunity to see it when it first opened and recommend it, particularly with the added man action.

A couple clips of the show, AFTER THE JUMP...

White House Rewrites 'Mission Accomplished' Banner

Tomorrow is the five year anniversary of the day Bush stood on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in front of the banner that read "Mission Accomplished" and said, "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended." Since then, 3,920 U.S. soldiers have been killed and countless Iraqi civilians.

MissionaccomplishedHere's this year's spin on that speech, according to a White House press conference today:

Dana Perino: "President Bush is well aware that the banner should have been much more specific, and said, 'Mission Accomplished For These Sailors Who Are On This Ship On Their Mission'. And we have certainly paid a price for not being more specific on that banner. And I recognize that the media is going to play this up again tomorrow, as they do every single year."

According to Think Progress, "This is only the latest tack the White House has taken to defend Bush’s 2003 remarks. Last year, Perino insisted that 'we did prevail,' while former press secretary Tony Snow laughably claimed that Bush 'said just the opposite' of 'mission accomplished.'"

Watch the press conference, AFTER THE JUMP...

Um...um...um. Dana Perino is about this close to a Kristen Wiig SNL character. What a joke, if it weren't such a crying shame.

Gene Robinson Believes 'God Disappointed' with Anglican Archbishop

In an interview to be broadcast on the BBC news program Hardtalk, gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson criticizes Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, for failing to confront anti-gay critics in the church, specifically, Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola, whose stance against homosexuality has been seen as a major cause of the rift within the church.

Robinson"I believe [Dr Williams'] unwillingness to confront Peter Akinola and others like him who've made statements that I think any reasonable person would find over the edge - I believe God is very disappointed in that."

Akinola is seen as a force in perpetuating violence against gays and lesbians. Robinson, who plans to attend events around this summer's Lambeth Conference even though he was not invited, has been speaking out about death threats against him and tells the BBC that he sometimes wears a bulletproof vest at public appearances.

If this is what you want, go ahead." (email and response)

road.jpg Anglican school council in Australia formally endorses ban on bringing same-sex partners to the school formal: "Up to eight students had wanted to take boyfriends and raised the issue with a senior staff member, who passed the request to Churchie headmaster Jonathan Hensman. At the time Mr Hensman said it was not appropriate for students to take a same-sex partner because escorting a young woman to a formal was part of the boys' education. But after reports in The Courier-Mail Mr Hensman referred the matter to the school council. A brief statement posted on the Churchie website yesterday said the council 'strongly supported the headmaster's position on the school's education programs in social settings'."

road.jpg Presbyterian church court issues conflicted ruling in same-sex union case: "A San Rafael minister who presided over several same-sex ceremonies didn't violate Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) rules, because same-sex marriages don't exist in the church, a church court ruled Tuesday. At the same time, the Permanent Judicial Council's ruling affirmed the right of same-sex couples to have unions, a ceremony that would theoretically have a distinct liturgy. The ambivalent ruling - affirming the rights of gays and lesbians to have their relationships sanctioned by the church but not considering them equal to those of heterosexual couples - is likely to disappoint both sides in the debate."

Greek Islanders of Lesbos Want the Name 'Lesbian' Back

A group from the Greek island of Lesbos, said to be the birthplace of the female Greek poet Sappho and also a huge holiday draw for girls who love girls, is taking the Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece to court to stop them from using the word "Lesbian" in their name, saying that it usurps the identity of the island:

Lesbos_2"Three islanders from Lesbos — home of the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love between women — have taken a gay rights group to court for using the word lesbian in its name. One of the plaintiffs said Wednesday that the name of the association, Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece, "insults the identity" of the people of Lesbos, who are also known as Lesbians. 'My sister can't say she is a Lesbian,' said Dimitris Lambrou. 'Our geographical designation has been usurped by certain ladies who have no connection whatsoever with Lesbos,' he said."

Said Dimitris Lambrou, one of the plaintiffs: "My sister can't say she is a Lesbian. Our geographical designation has been usurped by certain ladies who have no connection whatsoever with Lesbos. This is not an aggressive act against gay women. Let them visit Lesbos and get married and whatever they like. We just want (the group) to remove the word lesbian from their title...We have been Lesbians for thousands of years."

Now there's a Sisyphean pursuit if I've ever heard of one.
