John Hagee Retracts Retraction of Katrina 'Gay Sin' Remarks

In late April, McCain supporter John Hagee appeared to retract his past remarks that gay sin brought Hurricane Katrina upon New Orleans, releasing a statement that said:

Mccain_hagee"As a believing Christian, I see the hand of God in everything that happens here on earth, both the blessings and the curses. But ultimately neither I nor any other person can know the mind of God concerning Hurricane Katrina. I should not have suggested otherwise. No matter what the cause of the storm, my heart goes out to all who suffered in this terrible tragedy. There but for the grace of God go any one of us."

Well, that didn't last long. IHagee held a conference call with religious supporters yesterday, the Dallas News reports:

"When a woman on the call asked why he seemed to have backed away from his Katrina comments in face of criticism, Hagee said he hadn't. As for the Katrina, he said, God controls hurricanes and 'God always punishes unconfessed sin.'"

Anyone surprised? Didn't think so.

McCain most recently called the controversy over Hagee's remarks "nonsense."

  1. No surprise Hagee is flip-flopping almost as often as McCain himself.

When will people admit they have no f*cking idea what god wants and that, if there is a god, he sure as hell doesn't need them to speak for him. Righteous pr*cks.

  2. That's why Katrina missed the French Quarter and demolished the homes of the poor???

  3. Dear Lord, please make Democrats use campaign ads featuring this fool standing next to John McCain. And of course, on the sound track, his anti-gay & anti Catholic words.

We can learn a lot from the Republican right-wing....about dirty campaign strategies. What's good for the elephant is ok for the donkey.

  7. AMEN Derrick

The ads should stress that McCain courted Hagee's endorsment for over a year and any 12 yr old with internet acess could have found out about this guy in seconds.

  8. Concerning the recent cyclone in Myanmar I wonder what god told Hagee concering the gays there....

  9. I'll echo some of the statements made here about Repugnant-can fight tactics.

Face it. They're the masters of the game. The Dems constantly disappoint me with their soft stance. And the irony of it all is that they save their dirtiest ammo for opponent within their own party!!!(????)

Dammit, (wo)man the phuck up and go for the neocon jugular!!!!!!!

  10. @GREG2

Isn't it obvious? According to Hagee, the cyclone hit Myanmar because they are not christian.

  12. "God needs to get laid" "...God(a self-loathing closet queen..."

Look, fellas: there are no gay bars in hell...well, no nice ones. So, I don't want to go! I don't like Hagee, but I'm not going down with y'all.

  14. So McCain's good buddy, Hagee, has retracted his retraction concerning God smiting New Orleans with Katrina for it's sins.

Add him to Robertson and all the other Evangelical Meteorologists who concluded that the hurricanes that pummeled Florida a few years back and don't you, essentially, have a quorum of clerics... er,sorry... clergy forcefully proclaiming that God has repeatedly damned America?

If God attacks and destroys entire cities (even coastal areas) and in the process kills innocents or destroys the property of innocents, isn't that God damning America?

Have I missed it? Has anyone in the press pointed this out?

  15. Derrick,

i don't plan on going to hell. god is humor, art, love, culture, the world... god isn't creating hurricanes to kill people because of a gay pride event. i think god and i will have a good laugh over an ice cold pint at this crazy, beautiful world. and god will laugh that i said (s)he needs to get laid, because that's funny sh!t.

why do so many people think god is so grumpy?

    Posted by: Nathan | May 8, 2008 12:47:41 PM

  16. "...and god will laugh that i said (s)he needs to get laid..."

I believe you'll get to see the Lord, NATHAN. I thought I was the only one who knew the Lord loved to do "drag".

  17. Hagee always says Katrina was God's punishment for a "homosexual parade" that was scheduled for the Monday the storm hit. But, unless I'm mistaken, there was no gay parade scheduled for some random Monday in August. The following weekend was Southern Decadence, and I'm sure that's what Hagee is referring to. So, the storm hit too early. None of the gays were in town yet. If God was trying to smite the evil homosexuals, his timing was off. You'd think God could get his timing right, what with the whole omnipotent thing and all.

This is all another way of saying that Hagee is a liar and a fool.

  18. Obviously God's geography is a little off (no doubt like Hagee's). Surely he meant to smite Phuket or some beach in Thailand popular with the gays, but he aimed just a little bit too far north -- kinda like hitting the 9th ward or Lakeview worse than the Quarter.

  19. Hagee, one of many lying, hypocritical sacks of shit in Texas.

  20. well, first off, hagee is a porker and mccodger has sold his soul. the dems will trounce him if they get their act together. obama/hillary, anyone?

as far as god is concerned, he must have a sense of humor. i will paraphrase w.h. auden: if god forgives my transgressions, i will forgive him for the joke he played on me.

  21. Hagee is a fucking dumbass, and McCain (like everyone in politics) will do anything and everything to get elected.

As Louise Hay has said for years, you create your own reality by your thinking. (Anyone heard of 'The Secret?'). Too bad that close-minded asshole can't realize there IS no god but the one in your own head.

  22. Those blacks and gays in New Orleans, they deserved God's wrath named Katrina, these alleged hate mongers called Christians are too much, and, McCain the alleged maverick has no problem pandering to them. I guess that tells us how he really fells about fairness for all.

And, he continues to get a pass from the media which foamed at the mouth 24/7 with that Rev Wrong/Wright nonsense.

  23. Hagee sees what he wants in the bible, If I remember correctly in the book of Job a hurricane destroyed the house his kids were in killing them. That was specifically said to be Satan, not God.

There is another place in one of the gospels where Jesus asking about a tower that fell and some people died. He asked those listening "was this because of sin?" And he answered "no" Why does Hagee read these verses
    Luke 13:1-7 (King James Version)
4Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
