Gay Slurs Fly in Real World Fight

MTV's Real World: Hollywood isn't all bare butts and shaving cream thongs. This week's episode erupts into a verbal brawl in which gay slurs are hurled.
Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

Derrick, keep up the great posts, bigotry and hate in any form is wrong, no matter the color the hater, or as is the case with a couple of posters here, sexuality.

The self-loathing old queen (the Murray in Bunim/Murray Production) who owns The Real World just loves to cast gay bashers. He's a sad pathetic mess and we all have to watch his neurosis played out week after week.

Wait, isn't this scripted though?
Derrick, you crack me up everytime. You should check out the crazies over @ Queerty. OSCAR would sound smart!

This may be the one and only time that will ever somewhat agree with OSCAR. TRW most certainly does treat homophobic slurs differently and less severely than they do racist slurs.
A perfect example was the altercation between Davis and Tyrie. Yes Davis called Tyrie the n-word but if you watch the clip it was in RESPONSE TO Tyrie calling him a f*ggot and a "punk ass b*tch" (prison inspired lingo for "f*ggot").
There was an uproar over Davis's comment but narry a word about Tyrie's homophobic tirade that preceeded it. What I found more offensive than Tyrie's homophobic rant was the fact that he, nor the housemates, nor the viewers seemed to have a problem with it.
Davis was dead wrong in using the n-word but no less wrong than Tyrie was.

This clip left me speechless why are they inferior to a gay man because of their insecurities. Everyone knows when you say the Real World the first thing you look for is the gay person on the show. They knew what was up when they signed on to do the show! I think all parties should be let go and replaced for their actions.

Of course, Zeke,
me, SHABAKA, NOAH, SEEDLEE, SEBASTIAN, BRANDON, BANJIBOI...all agree with you on that point. We don't want to hear "faggot" anymore than we want to hear "nigger". Are Americans (and American Media) less outraged by the use of the gay slur "faggot"? Yes, but that's not black gay people's fault, it may not be black straight people's fault; but OSCAR treats it as such. For him, it becomes a much more incendiary gay slur when it comes out the mouth of a black person.
And how do many white gays feel about the words "nigger" vs "faggot"? Do OSCAR, JOHNNY LANE, CHURCHCHILLY(may be same person as Johnny Lane), MATT, ABRACADAVER--do they care about hearing and using the word "nigger"? I don't think so.
But Zeke, you know it doesn't worry me. I've been called "nigger" a hundred times by white folks, and been called "faggot" ten thousand times by black folks--and Lord knows, I'm still prettier than most of them...a plague on all racists and gay-bashers.

But you know what? I don't hate OSCAR. Some might think I should, but I don't. OSCAR wrote one of the most touching comments I ever read on Towleroad...yes, and it was even eloquent. It had to do with being a gay senior citizen, and the hardships they sometimes face--especially loneliness.
As much as I make fun of his anti-black and anti-Jewish comments, I'll never forget his personal testimony on gay seniors.
Oh, and last week he called Cuban Blacks "yummy". Extraodinary.

I'm from Europe and have been to the US on visits since I was a child. My family has summer homes in Maine and North Carolina. I have had great times in the US as a child, but have not been back in a while. America and Americans have changed. They are violent, annoying and classless. A society on the brink. This to me is not at all funny and not something to be takin so lightly. Young people acting like this is not entertainment, nor is it amusing. Thank god for the euro, thank god for Russia, China and India. We can now look elsewhere for some sort of enlightment. Or at least keep to ourselves. Ciao.

I agree with you Caligula. I am from Malta and I do see this trend with American youth. The euro has helped us greatly, this is true. We can now do business with China, India, Russia, and Brazil. These nations however are not the best for human rights, but they are young democracies and they are making strides. I believe we should relook at our own countries here in Europe. Stay at home more and do business with a few select nations. My American friends that come to Malta every other year or so are such good people. They are not 18 though. I wonder how much of this is truly American society and how much of it is media. The US does have a horrible reputation in Malta, my people go to Dubai for business now.

Alexa, Dubai is a horrible place to be gay.
The places you mention all have horrible record on gay rights.
The US will eventually recognize marriage because of a clause called "due process" in our constitution.
Being gay will always be looked down on, as a weakness, but we have the law on our side.

Caligula and Alexa are right. America is digging its own grave by promoting and broadcasting homophobic morons like the guys in this REAL WORLD clip. Americans have become too stupid and classless for words. No one knows anything about the best of our own culture. No one understands any foreign languages. No one has any dignity anymore.

Why should we expect more from spoiled, ingorant children than we expect from our elected officials??
The apple never falls far from the tree.

Gordster, Caligula, Alexa, from the way you talk you obviously haven't grown up here, so where do you get off generalizing our youth? Yes you do make good points but you obviously haven't lived here long enough to notice that things are changing here. The youth here is becoming more enlightened and tolerant of those around them, they are (I should be saying we) becoming a generation of people who can look past minor differences and work towards a better world. As a matter of fact in most colleges it is a prerequisite that you take foreign language classes in high school so I don't understand where that comment came from. I've seen plenty of people froms different parts of the world ( places such as Dubai, France, Isreal, Pakistan ) act like the spoiled brats on this show, so please do not make such a flawed genralizations

I'm with my Europeans on this one. In Monte Carlo we are spoiled rotten, yet people don't beat on doors and throw things. They don't go crazy and get in your face like that. Why do the police always show up at clubs in the US. You look at someone thr wrong way and they get pissed. It is a different culture in the US today.

Saw it. Hated it.
I lost a bit more respect for those two, who seemed like basically decent guys before this. Sure, they're rowdy + drunk all the time, but I don't judge all that. They're still kids (said as if I'm not still in my twenties). The f*g thing, however, not cool.
