Gay Bashing Victim Speaks Out About N. Ireland MP Iris Robinson
Stephen Scott, the victim of a gang gaybashing who inspired Northern Irish DUP MP Iris Robinson to publicly advise gays to seek therapy to "turn (them) around" from homosexuality, has spoken out about Robinson:
The BBC reports: "'I certainly will not rest until she stands down for what she's done, because she's made my life hell since her comments,' he said. He said he had struggled with coming to terms with being homosexual, something made more difficult by his background. 'I took an overdose last November because I was finding it hard to cope with being gay - I had no support from anyone and felt on my own,' he said. 'I had always denied it but now I'm out and I'm not ashamed to say I'm gay.'"
Robinson also told the BBC in an interview that "just as a murderer can be redeemed by the blood of Christ, so can a homosexual; and that is the message and that is the word of God; and if anyone takes issue they are taking issue with the word of God."
That clip, again, if you missed it, is AFTER THE JUMP...

This story is a huge public relations disaster for Northern Ireland. Robinson's comments make the place look about as tolerant and welcoming as Zimbabwe.
And to have given this speech 24 hours after a well publicized brutal gay bashing is completely repellent, but nothing will prevent her from doing her Christian duty and marginalizing the socially vulnerable from the comfort of her mansion (the one with the massive Union Jack on the lawn).

i take issue with her assumption that her right to fantasize a belief in god and the bible supersedes the rights of those without such "chosen" beliefs.
Iris Robinson is beyond redemption for her cruelty and judge-mentality.

She's an idiot but people like her need to be exposed so sensible people can see how moronic the face of homophobia can be.

CHAS is absolutely right.
She is repelent but nothing does the gay right movement more good than when fools like she and Fred Phelps go on their over the top hateful rants.
In the long run they're better for gays than Pride parades.
It's still inexcusable that all of her hateful ranting was in response to the near fatal beating of a gay man a few days prior. Her response to the bashing? The VICTIM should seek help to change his sexuality and then he wouldn't have so many problems. The is the very ugly, visible manifestation of compassionate conservatism politics and "love the sinner hate the sin" Christianity.
