Rob Marciano's Fashion Forecast: Hot and Dressed

Marciano1

Vman posted a spread on CNN weather hunk Rob Marciano in various states of dress, along with a short interview. Here are a couple of the queries:

How did you get into meteorology?

"I've been a lifelong weather geek. I would drive my parents crazy. I knew exactly when every weather guy was on every channel, and I would switch back and forth trying to get them all. I learned early on that meteorology isn't an exact science—telling your teacher you didn't do your homework because the weatherman said it was going to snow doesn't really work."

You had a moment of notoriety after you questioned certain claims in An Inconvenient Truth on air. Was that a surprise to you?

"I knew as soon as I said it that there was going to be a backlash. In the end, it created a buzz of viewer interest, and we did an hour-long special on the myths about global warming. I think Al Gore's message is a great message. I just want the facts to be accurate, and fact is that global warming did not cause Katrina."

  1. Yeah, I was a fan until those comments too. I'm sorry, Rob, but connect the dots... Here's Ohio this past week: we've gone from 100° (in early June?!) to a rain/thunderstorm deluge (days now, still ongoing as we speak). Flooding is a regular occurrence. There's been a record number of tornados. I just spent 12 hours last night without electricity. It wasn't like this when I was a kid. The cold is colder, the hot is hotter and the storms are both more frequent and intense. And it's getting worse.

  2. Rob can't help it...he's being paid by the BIG BOSSES who's Propaganda he has to spew...sure he's "eye candy" but I don't take what they say as Total fact!

  4. To the best of my knowledge, Al Gore never said global warming causes more hurricanes. Just more intense ones.

And I don't like seeing anyone being a "disgusted American." If you love America, then you'll care enough about it to change it. Disappointed American? Well, sure. :)

  5. Let me defend him:

You could NEVER prove that a specific hurricane was caused by global warming. You could argue that a change in weather patterns (such as hurrricane frequency and intensity) would result from global warming.

  6. Those photos make him look like a reject from a David Lynch film. He is fairly attractive but he has zero star power on TV. His forecasts make Al Roker look professional. Another empty suit just mouthing the words waiting for a reality series.

  7. The problem is that scientists ascribe the difficulties of global warming as being in the future (the problems are always right around the corner, if not today), so there is hardly anything happening today that can be ascribed to global warming, though that doesn't stop the press from trying. The press would sensationalize hangnails if they thought it would attract eyeballs.

  8. i dont' recall anyone saying that global warning was the cause for hurricane katrina. i've heard plenty say that global warning had an affect on the MAGNITUDE of katrina but nothing about it being the cause. he comes off as just another tool talking head when he spouts off statements like that.

  9. Just more Republican spin. He made it clear that he is a registered republican. Well, he implied it at the very least. during the 2004 presidential primary contests, when the anchors tossed over to him for his weather report with a throw-away line about voting, he said something like he wasn't voting in the primary because his party wasn’t holding contests. Now he did NOT say he was a Republican but I think it’s pretty clear what he was saying. It stuck out to me for two reasons 1) Before that I thought he was hot and when he said that my opinion changed (what can I say, I’m very partisan) and 2) reporters generally aren’t registered with a political parties (usually registered independents) and I remember thinking at that time if CNN continues trying to branch him out into general reporting that he would have to “correct” this.

  10. I don't know if any of the people who have commented here are actually meteorologists or scientists of any sort, but you seem to be dismissing the thoughts of someone else who is. The "proof" behind your arguments seems to be based on what Al Gore (huge hypocrite with huge mansion who is not a scientist) says, along with personal anecdotes about your local weather...with an ethnic slur thrown in here and there. Not very convincing.

  11. Whether or not his narrow point regarding hurricanes being "caused" by global warming is true, he misses the larger point. It doesn't take a scientist to recognize the record-breaking number of record-breaking numbers: heat, cold, storms, floods. Hell yes I have personal anecdotes. 2 summers ago I was stranded in a parking lot in a flash flood for 6 hours. Who does that happen to?!?! I don't have to be a scientist to know what's going on because the vast majority of scientists agree that something is going on! Marciano and his ilk have not science as their first priority but ratings. By disagreeing with, say, Al Gore he makes news for himself and that's what it's all about.

  12. omg will you people bother to read the news sometimes and not just towelroad? No solar spots since January, a freaky long winter, and a change in the pacific current patterns which is going to last for at least 25 years. All point towards COOLING. I can't believe you are so stubborn that because something contradicts what you see on tv you have to look for something wrong with the person. Weird weather does not necessarily connotate to global warming. Warm weather does not mean stronger hurricanes. If anything they had it right the first time and what we should be watching is global cooling.
If Gore was so concerned with global warming wouldn't he fly less? own less houses? own less cars? He doesn't he just set up a company to take your money if you feel guilty, most of these places don't even do anything, they don't plant trees, or grass, they invest in electric plants in india or africa, and than reap the profits from that as well.
Come on folks we've cleaned up this country, the rivers, planted more trees than ever before and are doing a good job on fixes the messes our parents and their parents made. Now they want us to crater our economy to try and change the worlds weather by 2 degrees, a difference that will not matter either way. Doesn't this seem a bit strange to anyone?

  13. "2 summers ago I was stranded in a parking lot in a flash flood for 6 hours"

Most flash floods happen because of over construction and deforestation, of course you were in a parking lot, that's what causes them

  14. I'm 36. That very small parking lot of a convenience store in a residential neighborhood was there well before I was born. That was the first flash flood in that part of town. I know because the owner and I talked about it for 6 hours. Believe what you want.

  15. In a word, YUMM. I find the "reject from a David Lynch film" look very sexy, being a fan of said films and all. I could care less whether he's a Republican (they DO exist outside of Texas and Connecticutt and they aren't all bigots) or about global warming/cooling/bullshitery.

  16. It's just strange that when my freezer says 32 degrees, everything's frozen. Then when it says 33 degrees my ice melts. Is it just me or does this happen to anyone else?

    Posted by: Castaway | Jun 10, 2008 2:52:37 PM

  17. What concerns me about many of you is that you just look out the window, see that its a certain type of weather and immediately conclude - "my word - we are destroying the planet because Al told me!". Sorry science doesn't work that way. It takes data and when it comes to weather patterns on this planet we have an incredibly limited amount of information.

Personally I don't know what annoys me more - Republicans that say I'm going to die because America will be destoyed by terrorists by dinner time tonight or Democrats that say I'm going to die because America will be underwater and 190 by breakfast tomorrow morning. No - they annoy me equally.

  18. Pretty to look at but . . . has anyone every watched this guy try and read the news headlines ( they let him do that every now and then on CNN) . . . OMG. The lights are on but nobodies home.

    Posted by: gaywest | Jun 10, 2008 9:47:23 PM

  19. There is data you ignorant losers. Gore didn't just pull the presentation out of his ass like you pull your random beliefs...one moment republican, one moment on a gay news site. It's called science, there will be some studies that result in different findings, but a majority point towards very specific support for the theory of what is going on.

Oh, and douchebag...global warming doesn't mean the earth will keep warming...the initial warming leads to climate change, change being the key word, there may very well be significant cooling following the warming...aren't you a genius.

  20. YOSHI,

and you annoy me most of all.

    PAUL,

i would rather believe al gore, the majority of scientists, and the preponderance of evidence than the self-serving comments of a pretty-boy. he is a meteorologist. so?

  21. Sorry to sound so cliche, but this guy's f***ing hot! If no one else wants him, I'll have him :-)
