Towleroad Guide to the Tube #303

SCREEN TEST: James Dean to Paul Newman: "Kiss me."

BONER TROUBLES: A short vid starring Spike from Top Chef. What it all means, I have no idea.

HIT AND RUN: An accident was recently caught on tape in Hartford in which a man was slammed by a hit and run driver, and nobody did anything. AP story.

COOPER ZAMORANO: One of the best from this week's So You Think You Can Dance auditions.

  1. God, I hate Jaywalkers so much. Some poor driver's life is ruined b/c a guy was too stupid to NOT cross the street into incoming traffic. Douchebag.

  3. Boy that James Dean was purdy, hey David E, any juicy stories on him?

  4. Re-read the AP story about the hit and run. The original description of people ignoring the victim was greatly exagerated. Note paragraph 4:

"However, Roberts and other city officials backtracked on Thursday. After initially saying he was unsure whether anyone called 911, he and other city officials appeared at a news conference in which they said that four people dialed 911 within a minute of the accident, and that Torres received medical attention shortly after that."

  5. There is definitely some energy between Dean and Newman in that shot. Dean's proclivities are fairly well established. And Newman's? The stuff of speculation and rumor. I wonder whether they had met before.

  6. Why does the media get all orgasmic (including this blog) over stories that report on how awful we all are?

I see a numbskull jaywalking into active traffic - and then back and forth-ing in the middle of the street. Another idiot that drives around the car that stopped and the jaywalker and finally an asshole, following the second car, that deserves to go to jail-for-life, that hit the jaywalker and drove off.

I also see cars stopping, slowing down and conversing with pedestrians and pedestrians on their cell phones calling 9-1-1 while others run into the store to report the accident.

Finally, I see several people who, wisely, don't touch a man down with head and possibly neck injuries.

It is distressing not to see people leaping into the street to stop traffic and checking on the man - but I don't know the neighborhood or what the jaywalker was doing on the sidewalk before he was hit.

This isn't NEWS until the full story is known!

  7. An attempt to answer David B's question:
You first have to understand that they are desparate to show the tape. It's a traffic accident that I am sure is repeated several times each day in America, and none of which are ever covered. But, they have the video of this one, and it's a gory video showing a man being run down. Now, of course, they can't say, "watch this crazy video of a guy getting run down just for fun," so that have to make up some other reason for showing it. But, really, they are showing it just for the gore factor. If there had been no video, we'd have never heard of this story.

  8. Kyle - you're spot on. They even showed this on our evening news (UK) all under the guise of "how can something like this happen? Look how extraordinarily awful things have got in the US".

As for Jimmy Dean - according to one biographer, the true extent of his hustling and homosexuality has never been documented... He (and Brando) apparently had the hots for Newman but by all accounts Newman was irredeemably heterosexual.

  9. Seems to me that Dean was "playfully serious" about being kissed and Newman was aware of a "I wouldn't mind if you do kiss me" attitude from Dean, hence Newmans nervous laugh because he wanted to kiss that hot little thing.Who knows what may have happened if no cameras were around.

  12. Dean and Brando were Bi - they were explorers - of course they would explore male pleasure.

  13. Cooper Zamorano didn't make it into this year's top 20. He's good, though. Hope he keeps improving and comes back next year.
