Formerly Pregnant Man Thomas Beatie to Get Film Treatment

Beaite

September Films has picked up the rights for a one-hour documentary about transgender man Thomas Beatie called Pregnant Man:

"The company will have exclusive access to Thomas Beatie and his family. Beatie was formerly Tracy Lagondino, a Hawaiian beauty pageant contestant, before he underwent gender reassignment surgery and hormone treatment. Docu will tell the story of his life, from difficult childhood and transgender issues as a teenager, through to the birth of his daughter at an Oregon hospital on June 29...September, which is owned by DCD Media, fought off rival bids for the rights from four other companies. Sheldon Lazarus, creative director of September, said: 'This controversial and unique story has made ‘Pregnant Man’ one of the most sought after stories to film. September is gaining a truly global reputation for producing these types of documentaries and handling the subject matter in a responsible and sensitive manner.'"

  1. Wait. This person is transgender. Correction to my previous post. This is NOT a pregnant man since biological this person is still a woman! I'm personally getting extremely tired of this crap.

  2. And another thing...many transvestites would take offense to being called drags.

it's a wonderful, complicated world we live in. For years I've been dying to do a float in the Pride parade called Fats-n-Fems. Everyone would have to wear hot pants, shirt tied at the navel (or halter top) and flip flops.

  3. "Why are so many gay men so vehement about making this separation? It's not just the need to "clarify" things--it's a deep seated hatred of feminine males (just like straight guys--sometimes worse). It appears to go back to when "traditional masculine" acting (or wannabe masculine acting) gay men first started coming out of the closet in large numbers--the 1970s(After Stonewall): the desire to rid gay men's image of the stigma of effeminacy. Well...keepa' tryin'."

    Derrick, this is spot on.

Maybe it was my going to a fancy liberal arts college in New York City in the early 90s (the tail end of Act Up and Queer Nation) that gave me my freakish idea of queer identity, but this whole Stepford Gay thing that's been happening more and more scares the bejeezus out of me.

  4. Sex is biological, gender is socially constructed. We have an idea in Western cultures of what being a Man, or being a Woman is, and when people move outside of those lines, they are taken to task. I think many a gay boy or girl, regardless of how masculine or feminine they are, can relate: many of us were castigated as kids for playing with dolls or softballs, for being sissies or tomboys. If Beattie identifies personally as a man, that's his business. I do have to say, I am getting tired of this story as a whole. A circus spectacle is not helping gay causes, but at the same time, he can do what he pleases. Likewise, people can voice their opinions yay or nay.

  5. I'm so confused. This person is a woman on the inside okay? All of the organs are woman organs. This is frustrating

  6. I wish Beatie and HIS family all the best. If he calls himself a man, I'll do the same. It does nothing to diminish either of us.

    Alex, Derrick, et al,

The Stepford Gays, a.k.a. the Pink Squares, a.k.a. the Aberzombies, a.k.a. the Pearl Clutchers are byproducts of the anti-queer whitewashing "the Gay Community" has rapturously received. "Gay" today refers less to queer identity and culture than to a hollow consumer demographic whose only sociopolitical concern is showing that it can be as mind numbingly boring, bland, materialistic, racist, and gender-fascist as Mainstream/Straight culture. Remember, they just "happen to be gay" and are "just like everyone else". They won't have we low-class freaks, fags, drag queens, transfolk, and coloreds soiling their good standing in society.

  7. CHAS,

I had a sigh of relief after reading your comment. Thanks.

Now, I can head for my favorite store. What shall it be? Old Grandad or Canadian Club? I have a few extra dollars--I'm goin' with the old Kentucky cracka'.

Have a great weekend--gay and trans alike!

  8. Chas,

    AMEN.

    That is all.

Derrick, Happy Weekend to you too. Have a drink for me! :)

  9. That poor child. Imagine having to grow up like that. Why
    would he have a child?
    publicity stunt much....

  10. Have a killer time, HONEY-D!

    ALEX,

I've felt that way for a long time but hadn't been able to articulate it until now. I'm psyched that I'm not alone.

I don't even consider myself "gay" anymore. If anyone asks, I say I'm queer.

  11. If it had a Vagina it was a woman. Until there is a penis on this thing it is nothing more then a mutilated woman trying to get her 15 minutes of fame.

    Posted by: Chris | Jul 11, 2008 4:42:07 PM

  12. Chris,

FTMs often do not get penises because they CAN'T. There is no way to make a functioning penis. So you are going to say a FTM can never, ever find a way to be a man until it has a fully functioning penis?

And that begs the question: what is a man?

If a man has his genitals cut off in an accident, does he stop being a man?

Is an impotent man still a man because he can't get it up?

  13. Chas, I'm right there with you, buddy.

  14. Men don't get pregnant. She's a woman without breasts. I'm tired of seeing her in the news everywhere, talk about a media whore. I feel for the poor child who grows up under such a spotlight.

  19. BusyTimmy "I personally think it's wonderful that this couple was able to conceive a child."

This COUPLE did NOT conceive a child.

This is not a man, just an attention whore who by some quirk of BAD LAW was able to get recognition as a male.

Throw up as many strawmen as you like Alex, a woman who celebrated her femininity as a beauty contestant and chooses to keep her genitals and reproductive organs intact is NOT a man.

    Posted by: queendru | Jul 11, 2008 7:07:19 PM

  20. Just because Beattie considers herself a man doesn't mean we should call her a he. Beattie is a biological woman who "feels" like a man and so is pursuing surgery. She is still awoman, NOT a pregnant man! That's media rubbish. Disturbing? Yes, and certainly not something I want thrown into the homosexual dilemma.

  21. seriously, some of the dudes here need to get the fuck over themselves. You people keep saying "If it's got a vagina it's not a man" do you know how many people say, " If a guys not fucking a woman, that it's not a man?" where do you get off decided who or what someone is called? The public has no right to determine the identity of someone else. If he says he's a dude, he's a dude. Get over it. If you had the chance to get money for the sake of your child and all it took were some camera's I'd be on that shit quick. I cannot tell you how severely fed up with this community, it's like we've started this weird horrific cultural cannibalism.

  23. There is something very unnerving and frankly annoying about her feminine gestures especially her meek feminine facial expressions while he's claiming masculinity.

Poor desperate wifey of hers and poor kid. Some fucked up attention whoring parents the little kid unfortunately inherited.
