L.A. Earthquake Interrupts Judge Judy Trial

Plaintiff

Yesterday's 5.4 earthquake in L.A. interrupted a Judge Judy trial which was taping. Most people stood up and fled the courtroom, except for the plaintiff, who stuck around, hoping that justice would still be served!

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

  2. Where's Judy?

  3. Something about the video that has been released to the news outlets (not this one, the short version that aired on Entertainment Tonight and on other shows) has been bothering me.

As soon as Judy realizes what's happening, she high-tails it outta there. Shots show her chair empty and everything. Then, suddenly, at the end, she's "back," and scowling at the audience like usual! This video has been doctored by the Judge Judy people with that final shot to make it seem like she came right back! Can't make Judge look timid, I guess.

  4. Where were they hoping to run to?

  5. Yeah, as soon as it started, Judge Judy got the hell outta there. Screw everyone else. For all her bravado on the show, she's probably a big coward in real life. Amazing how big you can act in those judge's robes.

She's a real cunt on the show, and gets worse every season. It's time for her to retire, but that $30 mil she makes a year is what keeps her going. She'll be 90 years old still screaming at people if the ratings last.

  6. Cut Judy some slack. I think she lives in New York City; it's probably the first earthquake she's experienced.

What is surprising is that all of those Californians panicked and ran, an action that can cause more injuries than taking cover, though I have to confess, all the lights above would be a concern.

  7. I'm moving to the Bay Area in less than a week and reading about this earthquake and the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake really has me freaked out!

  8. Eric --- Having lived in California for nearly 30 years, let me assure you that the hype about these earthquakes is purely media driven. Will there be a big one someday, maybe soon? Yes. But, most Californians are ready psychologically, and will trade the Pacific lifestyle for that risk anyday.

I've got a home in NYC, too, and, while it's fun for a few days, I think most New Yorkers will live short lives due to stress related heart disease. I'd rather live and enjoy the beauty of San Francisco, and deal with the future as it unfolds.

I'll never forget the day after the 1989 earthquake, when power was out and most of the country was being shown a few burning houses in the Marina district and the collapsed freeway overpass near Oakland. The world had thought that we had slid into the ocean when, in fact, a total of 55 people died in that tragedy. Sure, there was significant infrastructure and property damage --- but all of that property (especially in the Marina, built on liquified landfill) sells for millions! Compare that experience to Katrina, the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and risk for future ones, the Oklahoma City bombing or the floods and tornado's of the midwest.

After the 1989 quake, due to power outages, people were helping direct traffic, were grouping in spontaneous block parties to offer support and I'll never forget the day after when a guy in front of me at a cafe asked, "Do you only have plain croissants today? No chocolate croissants?"
