London's G-A-Y Nightclub to Close
The Times Online writes: "Jeremy Joseph, the club's pixie-like promoter, says it will reopen somewhere else, but it won't be the same - for good and ill, for its fans and detractors, G-A-Y at the Astoria is a gay cultural landmark, and even though it smells of chips and the Astoria has seen better days, the club has a resounding pre-eminence. While Joseph's G-A-Y has been going since 1993, the night began life as Bang! way back in 1976. It's a gay grand-daddy in a tight T-shirt."

Yes, that's the one JJ. Not sure why it didn't copy in my original post. Thanks.

With the closing of G-A-Y, Vauxhall will solidify it's position as the new gay ghetto.
G-A-Y and Soho have seen better days, but the Astoria was a fantastic venue for disco biscuits and dancing!

Wow. G-A-Y was one of the most fun places I've been to. I got to see Heather Small perform there in July 2006, right at the end of my study abroad, and met a cute guy too. I'll still occasionally see who they're bringing in, as a gauge of the gay music scene in London. I'm really going to miss that place - labyrinth stairs, dark upstairs seats, awesome musicians and all!

It's only G-A-Y @ The Astoria that is closing, G-A-Y Bar and G-A-Y Late (both within a few blocks) will be going as strong as ever. I usually hit the Astoria at least once every visit, I'll miss it. I'm guessing this will make Heaven even more jammed.

Well, hope it can be re-open soon. It's the special world for us LGBT. There's no doubt that we love the place just as what my bisexul lover of SeekBi.com says "we can feel free to talk about anything with like-minded persons. That's wonderful."

Unlike NYC clubs like the Roxy, G.A.Y. was actually fun. They played songs you can sing along to. It was silly and campy and didn't take itself too seriously.
I loved dancing there--especially since they played a lot of old Kylie :(

G-A-Y was my very first gay bar, in my very favorite city. What could be more uber fab than gay London? And G-A-Y, home of the Pink Pounder, was as classic as it got. No lines at the ladies, and Smirnoff Ice in a plastic bottle. Sigh...it's passing is a moment to mourn. Nowhere is it 2002 anymore, hey day of Kylie, Sophie Ellis Baxter, and G-A-Y. R.I.P., fabulous Astoria club.
