Former Westlife Singer Brian McFadden Says He's Not Homophobic

Former Westlife singer Brian McFadden issued a statement following the furor that has erupted down under after his recent remarks that straight men don't wear pink.

Mcfadden2Said McFadden last week: "Saying pink is a form of red is the same as saying homosexual is a form of male....In the old days there was no such thing as gay. It was frowned upon, the church would burn you at the stake. Modern day, if you are not gay, a man should not be wearing pink, unless of course you're in the America's Cup and you're one of these pansies who walk around with Gant t-shirts with your collars up, adn you wear pink and you wear white trousers with those dirty brown slip-on shoes. Then you're just an idiot..."

Here's the denial that he's anti-gay in a statement via his publicist:

"To come to the conclusion that I am homophobic from these sentences is far from the truth. Some of my friends and colleagues are gay and if I was truly homophobic then I have picked the wrong industry."

Some of my best friends are gay!

I've re-posted his original rant, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. Of course some of his friends are gay! They all say that, of course. It's like the committe-approved platitude designed to douse accusations of homophobia. Lucky for us, we're not falling for it. And note the ubiquitious publicist. Go back to Ireland, Brian.

  2. He is not a homophobe, he's just a bit simple.

  3. What an ignorant person! Its sad how small minded he is.

  4. If his simile that pink is to red as homosexual is to male does not make him a homophobe, I don't know what does. Hetero males who are secure in their own sexuality have no need to espouse these beliefs.

  5. Why I've never been so insulted in all my life! You gay people with your sensitivities and your offendedness! Why can't you just stop being gay huh! It's PC run mad I tell you!

  6. It reminds me of that great routine from "Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks at the Cannes Film Festival" where Reiner interviews "Adolph Hartler" (Brooks) from "Narzi" films asking him "Isn't that a bit close to 'Nazi'?" to which "Harler" replies "Nazis? Oh Ve hated them! Why in my own home we hid a Jewish family. We hid them for awhile and then we turned them over to the Gestapo."

  7. McFadden should hang out with Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age. They could have a debate on who's less homophobic.

  8. Homophobe or not, he is still a bit of an idiot.

But again, who is this guy and why do we care what he says?

  9. Guys, he doesn't even make news in Ireland. His own family are ashamed of him. Sad.

JASON, once again, please f**k off with your unwanted comments.

  10. OK. All better now. Everything is fine. He's clearly not a homophobe. After all he was in Westlife (?).

So pink is to red what homosexuals are male. It all makes sense now. Brilliant and insightful. Words to live by. He should write a book and be on Oprah

    Who is this douche?

Being gay I'm more of a "male" than he is and I wear pink

    I'll take Boyzone any day

All this makes me wonder if people say s**t just to get a rise and some publicity. After all nobody knew who he was until he spewed that bile

  11. He was just overcompensating for the Irish man's "curse". It's okay honey, not everyone is a size queen.

  12. Fuck you Brian you asshole. P.S. real men do wear pink, you don't since you're not a man.

  13. And some of my best friends--and best sexual partners--are/were Irish.

However, that doesn't mean that I don't smile when I recall Freud's line about the Irish seeming to be the one race of people on the planet who are immune to psychotherapy. :)

  14. What difference does it make? There's never been any negative reaction to homophobic statements in show biz as long as you say "I'm not homophobic". Actually I guess there's no negative reaction period. It certainly hasn't hurt Mel Gibson's bank account and he hates the gays except for Jodie Aunt Jemima Foster.

  15. JASON,

how fair you are. You're not only bigoted towards us blacks, you insult Irish too. Who's next? Oh, bisexual women, of course.

And to think, I actually thought you were an Obama supporter at one time. Well, Obama is African and Irish-American--no wonder he didn't stand a chance with you. But so what. Hey, wait a minute--Hillary is Irish-American too. And McCain? You just can't win, can you, JASON?
