John McCain Defines Rich as Over $5 Million

Mccainplane

Guess what? McCain's rich, and he also probably cheated at the Saddleback Church forum. As the Huffington Post notes, a man's shoes say quite a bit about him.

MCCAIN'S HOMES

Phoenix $4.6 million
Coronado, CA $2.1 million
Sedona, AZ $1.9 million
Coronado, CA $2.7 million
La Jolla, CA $1 million
Arlington, VA $847,000

Of course there's nothing wrong with having money, but there's something to be said about how you treat it, as this new clip from Brave New Films illustrates:

Two more new clips, AFTER THE JUMP...

The DNC released the web ad above yesterday. And below, Keith Olbermann's report on McCain's "cone of silence" during the Saddleback Church forum.

  1. You are all missing the point. It's not about how wealthy he is or how many homes he has... who cares? It's about rich Republicans portraying themsleves as simple people with down home values while painting Democrats as out of touch elitists. The shrub's campaign took that approach with Kerry and McCain appears to be doing the same with Obama. The hypocrisy is infuriating!!

  2. FYI:

    This just out:

According to a press release from OutNewsWire, 68 percent of gay adults will vote for Barack Obama, 10 percent will vote for John McCain, three percent choose Ralph Nader, and one percent supports Bob Barr. The other 18 percent is still undecided. According to the latest Harris Poll, Obama has an eight point lead over John McCain among all registered U.S. voters.

  3. THANKS URMISSINGTHEPOINT! Just as with closeted Republican Sentaors, it's not the issue, it's the HYPOCRISY! The McCain Campaign did damage to Obama this summer, painting him as an "effete elitist", and McCain as "simple folk". Idiots (i.e. the U.S. electorate) have bought this line from the GOP ever since the first Bush convinced them he was just a nice old guy who liked fishin' (not the millionaire ex-director of the CIA!!!) the Dems should just call it and say, "Effete elitist? Obama's not the one wearing $500 designer shoes, bitch." But I liked their ad. Hit back! Hit back hard!

  4. Dear urmissingthepoint

I'm sorry take another hit off the pipe because that is exactly what they want you to think. This is why I laugh when I see Al Gore flying around the world in his private jet telling me to change my light bulbs. This "man of the people" act from BOTH sides is absolutely so out of touch with the reality of the situation it is ridiculous.

Nancy Pelosi bitched and complained that she needed a private jet to go back and forth to California that was big enough for her staff. All of these politicians are looking to tell you that they understand your pain.

They all hope that you are stupid enough to buy that the other guy is "out of touch" when really it is you who are the most out of touch with reality. Do me a favor drink a little more kool-aid and make sure it has a side of Drano.

  5. Hey strepsi I got a giant folder full of polls from a few years back showing a landslide victory Gore...I even have a couple of framed ones from another election showing Harry Truman going down in flames from Dewey.

Stop trying to hype what's not there ....it's going to be REALLY close again.

  6. Yes, LAS VEGAS,

but which party is more likely to raise taxes on the rich? Somebody's got to pay for Bush's War.

And which party is more likely to tax the huge profits of the oil companies?

URMISSINGTHEPOINT is making the most important point of this thread. Many rich Democratic politicians don't pretend to be like the "average Joe" out there. They admit to their status and show a healthy dose social responsibility because of it (that's why Blumberg is really a Democratic. hee hee).

How do Republicans show they care about "average Americans"? Why do Republican economic policies always result in the rich getting richer, while "average" folks' condition remains the same...or worse.

No, rich Democrates are not going to give up their wealth, and they are not going threaten the financial status of other rich Americans. They just don't believe in having a "let them eat cake" attitude for the working poor and poor, and they show it with their votes in the House and Senate.

  7. Derrick,

What happened to the middle class tax cuts from Clinton? He promised them and won the election and then backed off when he realized it wasn't necessarily the correct thing to do but hey he won so what?

Perhaps I could serve you some cheese with that self serving whine you seem to posses. Taxing the rich to solve the problems of the poor is a pie in the sky attitude. When you do this the rich merely learn to hide the money better. For example both the Clintons and the Kennedys and many others squirrel their money away in tax free foundations and then go from there.

If you did a little research instead of merely spouting talking points you would realize that there are multiple layers to the issue of oil company profits. First company porifts stated on news programs are gross profits of the companies. You can take at east 60% of that off the top for corporate taxes that go right back to the government. On average oil companies make between 7 and 10 cents a gallon profit on the gas you pump.

Additionally any more taxes forced upon oil companies will be passed to the consumer..so you'll be paying more. The only way to stop that is to nationalize the oil industry in this country...which would probably cause a revolution...

Also, these corporations are part of a larger web of the economy with large investments by retirement funds, mutual funds, and government retirement packages. So this would affect millions of people including the elderly who depend on that investment income every month. But hey screw them..huh...because it's big business and they must be evil cause Obama spoketh it from the mountain.

If you think that windfall taxes are the answer then take a look at the mark up of many products you use because toothpaste has a bigger mark up return on purchase than gas.

Frankly I think many Democrats DO pretend to be the average Joe out there. Pretending to be socially active for groups such as gays is what Clintons did best. Then once there they couldn't deliver. I'll take a monster in front of me I can battle over one that's around the corner and can't be seen. So far I have been very unimpressed with Mr Obama and he has yet to deliver anything remotely encouraging to the gay community. Yet because he's a Democrat it seems everyone just thinks he is going to come through for the team. We've been down this road before and yet know one seems to learnt he lessons of the past so here again we're going to repeat them.

We had a Democratic president once who had problems with the oil companies, didn't have much of a record to run on, came out of nowhere, edged out a more experienced opponent and went on to win the White House.

He wanted to "talk" instead of taking action. This attitude got us gas lines, shortages, hostages taken, and in a huge mess. I can guess I can look on the bright side though after four years of that idiot we got Reagan for eight..because an unknown with no record and a few lofty words got lucky.

They say everything old is new so I guess the 70s are coming back again.

  8. I think that list of wealthiest Senators is bunk. It appears to combine John Kerry's (and perhaps others) wealth along with their wives and doesn't do the same for John McCain (and others). Cindy is worth over $100M dollars, and as such, John McCain should actually be near the top of the list.

    Posted by: Nick | Aug 19, 2008 6:16:04 PM

  9. huh, when CNN reports something you agree with it's fact but something you don't like it's bunk...It's what they reported..so perhaps John McCain doesn't file jointly..if you really want to take a fine tooth comb to this you are right there is one person on there that should be waaay at the top and that is Kennedy who has buried his money in a family foundation..That compound is worth more than what he reports for income. That's not the point...the point was that not one of those people who love to jump in front of the cameras to bend the middle class over with new taxes will feel it that hard themselves. The only way this will change is a fundamental change from the top down..If all you want to do is sit there and complain about the evil Republicans and their nominee then you deserve exactly what you get in a few months.

Posted by: Las Vegas | Aug 19, 2008 6:51:09 PM

  10. Las Vegas:

Let's just hope that what we get in a few months is not a McCain presidency, which would be a disaster for

anyone not rich (making $5 million plus)

anyone GLBT (adoption? marriage? supreme court?)

anyone against wars for no good reason

anyone who cares about keeping abortion safe and legal

basically anyone BUT selfish rich people who don't give a damn about the rest of the world.

  11. Why did the woman get a 2400/month mortgage when her income was 2200/month? The lenders lent her more than they should have and she should have read the print that said her mortgage interest would go up after 3 yrs and realized she should get a fixed mortgage.

  12. Hey Kevin does that cue card with talking points come with a free Obama doll? Considering that Vermont wanted to pull out of the union anything that comes out that state but Ben & Jerry's ice cream is pretty much as useless as your talking points.

How about coming up with something original instead of the latest rant from some leftist blog site. Geez another kool aid drinker from Brattleboro I bet.

  13. Maybe I should work for the campaign, if it sounds like talking points. No, just a logical thinker here, and those are the things that came to mind first.

Interesting that you would rag on Vermont, given that our liberal state was the first to provide Civil Unions, which at the moment still grant the same rights as a MA or CA marriage.

Probably a straight troll. Your post sounds remarkably like the kind of thing I read over at the wingnutdaily.
