  2. That was a great video, but what about some equal time for the McCain supporters? You should also post some of the heartwarming stories from the gay republicans that have closely interacted with McCain and the rest of the GOP.

  3. Terrific video, but it has no sound bite that will matter before Nov.

XURIEL: Please tell us your own heartwarming GOP story!

  4. Who, me? I'm non-partisan. I just thought that since there are gay republicans there should also be some nice stories about how McCain embraces the gay community. Surely there must be some because why would gays be voting for people that rejects them? Right?

Oh, maybe David can help! Yohoo, David Ehenstein! Can you also post a link for McCain's blessing of gay marriage? Thanks!

  5. Go Barack!

  6. @xuriel

The official democratic platform doesn't mention gays at all ... not one word. No civil unions. No hate crimes. And definitely no marriage.

Yep - those democrats.... such close friends of GLBT....

  7. I'll be holding my breath (and turning blue, no doubt) waiting for those heartwarming gay/GOP stories. Xuriel obviously had tongue firmly planted in cheek, tho you never can be sure here ;-)

As for the platform, Yoshi, here's a little of what it says:

We support the full inclusion of all families in the life of our nation, and support equal responsibility, benefits, and protections. We will enact a comprehensive bipartisan employment non-discrimination act. We oppose the Defense of Marriage Act and all attempts to use this issue to divide us.

We support the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” and the implementation of policies to allow qualified men and women to serve openly regardless of sexual orientation.

I'm sure the Republican platform takes more gay-friendly stands than that and comparing Obama's and McCains positions on gay issues (http://www.lgbtforobama.com/) clearly demonstrates that McCain is the one on our side. Yeah, right. Yet the deluded few continue to claim both parties are exactly the same!

  9. If we vote for Democrats, what we'll end up with is an empowered heterosexual male at the socio-cultural level. The empowered heterosexual male does not like gay and bisexual men and their interactions (like hand-holding, kissing etc). On the other hand, the empowered heterosexual male thinks girl-girl is hot, and thus he seeks to instill this fetish into the public's conscience at the level of media. Think of Democrat-leaning media organizatons like MTV, Rolling Stone magazine, People magazine etc which constantly favor girl-girl over guy-guy, expecially at the mainstream-bridging level of bisexuality.

Therefore, consider me a no-show for the Democrats. If you vote for them, you'll be damaging yourselves at the socio-cultural level.

  10. Jason, that may very well be the most ridiculously stupid, pseudo-intellectually written piece of crap I've ever read.

  11. The sun just turned to jello , the moon to custard, and the earth is facing the apocolypse

Arch conservative, racist, anti-semitic, nixon employee, haters of libs and dems PAT freacking Buchanan just praised Obama's speech

    "the best convention speech ever"

Olberman had to cut him off from gushing so much to go to commercials and even said "That tells you all you need to know when you have to stop Pat Buchanan gushing over Obama's speech."

    WOW

  12. He's willing to talk about our issues but not grant us equal rights?

    Posted by: ousslander | Aug 29, 2008 12:36:39 AM

  13. I'm gay and I will not settle for anything less than equal rights, and OBAMA stands with us...i heard us in his speech tonight....OBAMA our next President...let's unite queens, and leave your childish behavios elsewhere....time to get serious.

  14. Obama's speech was crafted so as to appear inclusive of gay people without really being inclusive. It sounded as if it had been processed through the DNC's language committee and calibrated so as to cause minimal offense to homophobes. This is the typical liberal approach to gay people: throw them (the gays) a few crumbs but don't embrace them too much. It's been done before and it's being done again.

I'd rather have an honest enemy than a dishonest friend. Democrats fall into the latter.

  15. "Therefore, consider me a no-show for the Democrats."—Troll Jason

Honey, you're gonna be a no-show until Australia becomes the 51st state in the union. Thanks for paying such close attention to U.S. politics (and television! and magazines!), though. Lord knows, I don't give a shit about Australian politics.

  16. jesus-tap-dancing-christ, Jason. Is that branch lodged so far up your ass that you're coughing up leaves? I don't know what severe-horrible-tramatic event took place in your life to make you such a disillusioned, pseudo-intellectual jackass, but some of us here have a future ahead of us that involves some sense of hope and possibility. So do us a favor and shut the fuck up or go find a group of people who have their heads lodged just as far between their cheeks as you do, thanks.

  17. RE: BOSIE- Welcome to the real world. Inclusion doesn't come overnight. Marriage doesn't come easy. Look at Black American history for God's sake; interracial marriage took forever to become legal. For gay civil rights, we're moving in leaps and bounds. And for those naysayers who say that its marriage now or nothing at all, grow up and see the light. Trees don't grow in a day, change doesn't come in a blink and America cannot change on a dime. We have to support those loyal to us, as opposed to those who push to deny us any rights (i.e. McCain).
Oh and you that say McCain and Obama are the same, pay a bit of attention. Ask the elderly veteran if he wants you to lay down your life for our country. I think you'll be surprised how much he values you.

Rachel Maddow (only openly lesbian news caster) and the others look at Pat Buchanan as if he has been replaced by a pod person

  19. Yeah Jason, cause you've done so well under the Republicans.

    Posted by: Wade | Aug 29, 2008 8:55:49 AM

  20. On same-sex marriage, though obviously that's the goal, I wonder if the push would be so strong if we really had all the same rights with a different name, which is Obama's stated position. We're nowhere near that, and the objections most people raise about CUs are really the same ones raised about state marriages in CA or MA: they're not portable and they have no effect on Federal rights.

  21. It's so hard for me to understand how a gay person can be a Republican. Republicans that I have met have a real problem with homosexuality. McCain and the girl-esque woman that has suddenly come out from hiding, will not care much for gays and lesbians. Maybe a tiny bit, but not much at all. You request warm stories? I don't think so.

    Posted by: rebirth | Aug 31, 2008 8:41:37 AM

  22. Bosie,

Gay people need to realize that total acceptance of homosexuality in the United States may not happen in the near future. There has been progress, and there will be more. Be patient, so as not to turn people off. Obama is Christian and believes what the Bible says about marriage, however he is also an open-minded individual, so he isn't totally against it, and will probably come around sooner than you think. Anger will not get you anywhere, but faith will.

  23. Yoshi and others,

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" makes me giggle a bit. I am gay and served in the military during the Vietnam Era, and I was very very very openly gay. After hours I'd walk around the Base in pink pants with matching pink shoes. No one needed to waste energy asking anything, nor did it matter for me to tell. A lot more juicy things happened in my openly gay days in the military, but my words might be inappropriate. Umm.
