McCain Fires Back on 'Housing' Meme
As Slog notes ("The genesis of the controversy—McCain’s seven or eight houses—is so politically combustible that the ad can’t mention it, so that attack on Obama’s 'housing problem' seems pretty disconnected."), it feels weak. Meanwhile, the meme has struck a chord with viral internet video creators. Here are two more.
The first is a video by Aaron Walker, a senior at an undisclosed college, according to DailyKos, using a popular Feist hit. The second is a Google Earth tour of McCain's homes which the Jed Report produced earlier in the summer which is receiving new attention.

And Talking Points Memo published some photos of the Phoenix mansion (as well as an Inside Edition piece on it) the McCain's sold in 2006.
Expect this to be the talk until Obama announces his running mate, which could come any time now:

Yeah McCain gave obama a gift, it's called another reason not to talk about any issues that matter. Obama will wait to the last possible minute to annouce his VP because he can't imagine sharing the stage with another. obama should talk (and he does to hear his voice), he made $4 million last year, vacations for a week on a private island owns a million dollar home that he purchased from convicted felon Rezko. Oh yeah then there's his corporate lawyer wife. So when McCain was Obama's age was he making $4 Million, no he was POW and fighting for his country. The Cindy McCain house was built from hard work, the obama house was built from dirty money.

Paul's comments are exactly why half of America veiws Democrates as nuts. Obama voted for FISA, supports more of your tax dollars to go to Faith Based Initiatives (religious groups who want to tell you how evil you are) and believes marriage is only between a man and a woman. The Democrates as a party may be our best bet, but do not be so silly as to think Obama's pandering to the gay community is more than anything except to get votes. A vote for Obama will not mean an end to hate or equality for all. Do not just hate McCain, and do not hand Obama his crown and let him walk away; hold Obama's feet to the fire!

Actually, Obama is in his mid 40s. I don't believe McCain was a POW fighting for his country in his mid 40s. I believe that was around the time he was cheating on his first wife and ultimately divorced her to marry an heiress worth millions.

Yeah, John McCain was actually giving classified intelligence in order to get better treatment while he was a POW. He was such a poor pilot he crashed 3 planes before he ever went over to Vietnam. And after he got there, he only spent about 20 hours flying time before he was shot down. As a POW, he wasn't fighting for his country, he was collaborating with the enemy.

It is sad that this is a major discussion point a presidential election...how rich or how many homes a candidate owns. When did wealth become a crime? No one attacks the Hollywood elite about their wealth.
Does anyone stop to realize that according to the last 30 years of government statistics, financially, gay couples are no better equipped to understand the average American and their hardships than either candidate? Gays on average fall into the higher income brackets.

DK's post represents all that is wrong with Obama's supporters. Most of them don't know what the fuck they are talking about. Obama didn't buy his house from Rezko, he bought it with Rezko's financial help. For those millions of you obamanics who aren't paying attention: The seller of the property required Obama to buy the adjoining lot- Conveniently, Rezko's wife bought it. Now, here's the part where you need to think, so let's make it easy for you: how deep in someones ass would you need to be to ask them to help YOU buy a house? or even a truck? Its like Obama bought a F-150 and Rezko paid for the truckbed.
I agree with HOMER, bring up McKain and Keating- but the difference is, McCain is not claiming to be a different kind of politician- BO is.

Um. It became a major discussion in 2004 when the Republicans accused John Kerry of being a "gigolo" by marrying Theresa Heinz.
Flash forward to 2008 and the McCain campaign is pushing forward the elitist/celebrity/out of touch (rich) meme in regards to Obama. The Republicans opened this can of worms and thankfully it blew up in their faces. It's hilarious how McCains goons are trying to play him as victim because of the how-many-houses gaffe. It's so hard being a white male millionare in these United States.
And this line: "Gays on average fall into the higher income brackets." is bullshit. It doesn't matter where I've lived the majority of gay men that I've known were surely working class folks. I think the gay community finds a certain comfort in allowing this myth to exist. Much like the belief that all gay men are potential models and we can all dance (hah!). For every one gay lawyer there's at least ten waiters, secretaries, and manual laborers.

I have thoroughly researched the Obama-Rezko story by reading accounts in both Chicago papers. That this has become an issue of this magnitude is absurd. Rezko had NOTHING to do with Obama buying his house. Obama bought the house after it had been on the market for several months and Rezko had nothing to do with his purchase. Rezko did buy the adjoining vacant lot for approx. $600,000. This land was slated to have townhouses built on it. So, Obama, wishing to expand his lot, bought a 1/6 slice of the adjoining land for $100,000 - which is the correct amount by percentage of the total sale price. That's it. That's the total story. There is no quid pro quo. Rezko didn't do him any favors. End of story.

McCain graduated at the bottom of his class at Annapolis. Crashed several US fighter jets but still stayed a pilot. Was thought to be the cause of a catastrophic fire aboard the USS Forrestal in 1967 that killed 131 US sailors (given credence by him being the only uninjured sailor evacuated from the ship by helicopter, because it was feared the crew would kill him). Was "redeemed" by losing yet another plane to North Vietnamese gunfire and may have (or may not have) collaborated with them to end his supposed torture (which no longer counts as torture under the current administration's definition). Cheated on his first wife (who was still recovering from a nasty car wreck) with a rich blond. Was involved in the Keating scandal that cost the taxpayers hundred of millions of dollars. Is notorious for his willingness to shoot first and get the details later. And on and on and on and yet...half the country still supports that psychotic SOB, and the MSM still helps the GOP jump all over Obabma while practically ignoring McCain's background. What makes the media finally sit up and take notice? McCain don't know how many houses he's got. WTF? The man is borderline insane and, come January, could have his finger on the nuclear button -- and we're more worried about who's got what in the way of HOUSES?!
