road.jpg Killer of gay man in Houston gets life sentence: "Terry Mark Mangum, 27, of Cypress, killed Kenneth Cummings, 46, because he hated homosexuals, the Brazoria County jury found Wednesday. Mangum had been out of prison just three weeks when he met Cummings at a Houston bar on June 4, 2007, testimony showed. He had served a five-year sentence for burglary. The two parted ways and then met again later that night at another club. Security cameras showed them buying wine and beer at a Houston supermarket. They then went to Cummings' Pearland home. Sometime that night Mangum slit Cummings' throat and stabbed him in the back of the head, breaking 1.5 inches of a knife blade, prosecutors said." The jury concluded that the murder was a hate crime. He'll be eligible for parole in 30 years.

'It was not violence and we would oppose all violence against any persons,' he said."

  2. Well, my Will Smith fantasy just went down the drain. I never did like "trade" that was too rough. And why is it that rough "tops" always have big buns themselves--do they like it rough on/in their own booties? Is that not an important eternal question?

There's a lot about homosexual sex stuff that just makes me confused, and in great need of a fifth of Bourbon...been that way since the 70s.

  5. Questioning McCain on the cross story and attacking him on his prisoner of war record is a HUGE mistake! It will back fire. It will hurt Obama. It is most likely to "fire up" the conservative base. There is no way to disprove him.

  8. I cannot believe the Bigfoot story is a fake. It just seemed so credible---a couple of dumb hicks, one unemployed, trying to sell a bunch of crap and claiming to have discovered a family of Bigfoots in a heavily used area. Not to mention that they carried the 500 pound body to their truck but then wouldn't show it to anyone.

    My heart is broken.

  11. Would People magazine put two just-married gay men on its cover? I doubt it. But two women is fine, of course. Typical liberal double standard. People is playing it safe.

  12. PaulR, I was more convinced it was true by the almost lifelike acrylic fur on the bigfoot's body. It seemed only reasonable that a nature loving half man/ half ape creature would be sensitive enough to not wear real fur.

Also, why anyone, let alone gays, would want to travel to Israel is beyond me. Could they not get a flight to Afghanistan or Darfur?

  14. Jason,

how can you be sure of that? What two famous men have recently gotten married? At least you could wait for that and see what People does. Jeez.

  15. Nick,

I'll wait until George Takei gets married next month. Then we'll see how People magazine responds. How much you wanna bet his marriage will get the insignificant treatment? I reckon his marriage will be treated in the way that liberal publications treat male-male in general - ie. they downplay it or ignore it.

I feel that People magazine is part of the stable of media which practises a double standard - girl-girl is "hot", guy-guy is "not hot". It's the double standard, yet again.

This is one reason why I'm not voting Democrat in this year's election.

  16. Elton John got married a year ago. Did People put him and his partner on the cover? I doubt it. People is hypocritical.

    Posted by: jason | Aug 19, 2008 8:46:27 PM

  17. Elton John's wedding isn't recognized in the U.S. as Ellen and Portia's is so putting them on the cover is a logical decision for "People". (And it's not as if "People" didn't refer to John's wedding at all; he just wasn't on the cover.)

It will be interesting to see what they do or don't do with Takei's wedding. Maybe a 2nd American "gay" wedding won't be worth the main cover, but I should hope they'd at least put the couple up in one of the squares at the top and give them at least a 2-page spread inside.

Oh, and JASON - if your perception of a hypocritical "liberal" media is the reason you won't be voting Democratic, then you're just an idiot with whom there is no reasoning. I wish I could help.

  19. Takei's marriage--much like Takei--is insignificant. Featuring him and his partner on the cover announcing their marriage would be like giving stephen baldwin a kid's choice award--baffling and creepy. "Hey, let's feature nobodies who become public with their homosexuality to revive what can only be described as the absence of a career."

I'm really happy for ellen. I mean, it's not every day that a person I'll never meet, who proves christopher hitchens right about women, and who I literally don't think about ever can touch me so deeply. Bravo, ellen...bravo...

Equality maine endorsing tom allen after sharply criticizing him for supporting enda minus T? That's about right.
