  1. The hypocrisy voiced here by Nancy Pelosi is stunning.

  2. John McCain would go to war with North Vietnam if he could.

  3. I just fell asleep watching McCain's speech.

  4. Er... Willy Wonka IS essentially a hulluciagenic morality tale. It's most certainly (and quite obviously) a morality tale, and the original movie is quite trippy at times, and often relies on hullucinations by the actual characters (when the boat goes through the river of chocolate, for instance, or the hallways that gets smaller and smaller, etc.).

  5. Protogenes, I agree. I am more and more depressed by Pelosi's empty, gesture-based style of politicking.

Her refusal to pursue impeachment and her craven support of the pork-stuffed farm bill show her to be wholly a creature of the beltway machine.

And when she does take a stand, it's a silly, empty, childish stand like her refusal of debate on offshore drilling.

The surface-only discussion of Georgia in the clip above is more of the same from her.

She is in general an enormous disappointment.

  6. Russia was excessively heavy handed in dealing with georgia, but come on now.....

Georgia crossed the border and started laying claim to Russian territory.

How would the US react if Canada crossed the border and started laying claim to american towns?

mccain needs to get off the soap box and stop plagerising wikipedia for his speaches

  7. i'm with protogenes and thinmint... this pelosi is a horrible disappointment...no spark, no fire, no moxy... NOTHING...ZILCH!!! a complete and utter empty shell representing nothing...

  8. Jesus, Nancy, grow a pair!

After years of talk, the degree of disappointment at Pelosi's absence of spine is virtually off the proverbial scale. I'd use the word, "craven," but Thin Mint has already leveled that one at her.

Her hypocrisy and weakness has set new standards in duplicity and cowardice, as she continues to let down a needful nation...

...not to mention the legions of those who supported her from early on, only to see her abdicate responsibility at the most crucial of moments...

Adding support for the Word of Bush, especially in condemnation of a country getting involved in the inner workings of another, is just effing gobsmacking...

  9. I'll stay on the boat Ryan is on. The first Wonka movie was clearly designed for drug users, and released in 1971 I think. Even when I was a high schooler in the mid to late 80s, it was consider de riguer to watch it for those doing acid for the first time. That some stoner found three minutes of drug humor in the movie isn't all too impressive, but it's better than watching Pelosi or McCain

And the second Wonka was just hilarious. Johnny Depp was so perfect. Not to mention very gay.

  11. Andy, PLEASE please please stop using numbering. It's annoying, distracting, and utterly unnecessary. And kills the clean aesthetic of the comment pages.

  12. I'm glad to have given money to Cindy Sheehan's effort to boot Pelosi. I hope she and Reid are both gone from the posts that they have shown they can not handle.

  13. Jimmyboyo, South Ossetia and Abkhazia are internationally recognized as Georgian. Georgia sent troops into THOSE regions, they are Georgian, not Russian.

Georgia never touched an inch of internationally recognized Russian territory.

Your analogy, therefore, to the US invading Canada falls flat.

  14. or Canada invading the US or whatever

  15. Nancy Pelosi is a millionaire. She and her family hobnob with other DC millionaire families both Democrats and Republicans. Nancy believes that when rich people break the law it’s unfortunate and sad but not really a crime because rich people always heave the best intentions. If Nancy was approached by a working class American she would call for security and have them removed and possibly arrested. Nancy jets between her many homes on the corporate planes of her many wealthy campaign donors. If Nancy flew on commercial airlines she might have to see poor people. Yuck!

  16. Brad

The REPUBLIC of South Ossetia declared its indipendence from Georgia in the 1990's

The western bloc nations do NOT equal the entire international community. No need to be hyperbolic there. The international community is split ala cold war days on the status of The REPUBLIC of South Ossetia

Georgia banked on bushco's rhetoric that they would back them up found out it was emoty when they took land that is NOT their land.

Abkhazia is an INDEPENDENT REPUBLIC. Declaring its independence in 1992 and driving the Georgians out by 1993

Georgia screwed up. russia was heavy handed, but in the end georgia should have not listened to bushco's platitudes of having their back and should have stayed on their side of the borders

  17. Jimmy boyo,
Who is Abkhazia recognized by internationally? It's not just the entire Western bloc...which Latin American, Asian, or African nations recognize Abkhazia.?

Russia just granted citizenship to those in S. Ossetia and Abkhazia recently. Billboards in those regions showed Putin (and now Medvedev) as "our president."

The "independence" was a smokescreen for Russia to reassert its rule there, just like Texan independence from Mexico was just a layover into admission in the United States.

Plus, many Georgians were expelled in the 1990s, so how can any "vote" of independence there be legitimate? and since when does the international community treat any and every breakaway province as an independent nation? Russia sure didn't offer that courtesy to Chechnya.

  18. Nancy Polosi, what a tremendous disappointment. I had so much hope for her and this congress. Initially, they were making tremendous (accurate) accusations of this administration. Since taking over, no meaningful action has been taken on ANY item of interest that has been on the list of American topics. She's just like the rest of them. It's too bad.
