EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Jared Polis, Democratic Congressional Candidate from Colorado

Yesterday we had the opportunity to sit down with Jared Polis, an openly gay candidate who recently won the Democratic primary in the 2nd Congressional District in Colorado, in a tough campaign against another gay ally, Joan Fitz-Gerald.

08If Polis should win in November against Republican challenger Scott Starin, he would become the sixth openly gay person to serve in the U.S. House, filling the seat of Rep. Mark Udall, who is running for the Senate. The Victory Fund calls it all but certain that he'll be elected in November, as the Democratic nominee in a heavily Democratic district.

Towleroad's Corey Johnson spoke with Polis in the Big Tent, which opened yesterday and was humming with activity as a center for new media journalists, bloggers, reporters, and non-profit leaders attending Denver's convention.

Polis spoke to us about his tough campaign and some of the things he looks forward to should he become the first openly gay man elected to the House as a freshman.

  3. The notion that Polis wasn't supported by the LGBT community because he is gay sounds absurd becuase it is absurd. Joan Fitz-Gerland is a seasoned, tough, agressive supporter of progressive causes. She earned our support over the years and would be an excellent congresswoman, senator, who know what else she could accomplish. This is why Tim Gill and others supported her and not Polis.

  6. Gotta agree with Steve. While I love JP and i'm super excited he'll be in congress representing my home state, his victim attitude regarding Fitzgerald's GLBT support seems kinda pathetic. You'll do a great job in congress Jared, so lets move past the primary and start focusing on how you can help Colorado.

  8. When did Corey Johnson turn into a grown man? I was like who's the hottie and then realized he's the high school footballer who came out. Doesn't seem like it was 1999. I feel almost pervy.

  9. Being reported that at least 4 and up to 6 arrests so far in assassination plot in Denver Colorado.

Rifles with sniper sights. Plan to shoot from high point as far as from 750 yrds on Thursday when Obama accepts the nomination at the stadium.

    Suspected white supremacists.

FBI, ATF, etc are involved and the feds are going to give a press conference tomorrow.

Luckily the first arrest occurred at a routine traffic stop where rifles were and drugs were found. A confession occurred that has led to the other arrests.....

    Maybe more?
