News: Invisibility, Isaac Hayes, Georgia, Bill Maher, Chelsea

road.jpg Seattle filmmaker and former city council candidate injured in anti-gay assault: "Cogswell and his friend were taken to the hospital, where Cogswell received five stitches in his cheek, and doctors found that his right orbital bone—one of the bones around the eye socket—had been fractured and his front teeth badly chipped. Cogswell says there’s a possibility that his fractured orbital bone could pinch a nerve or a muscle and require surgery. Cogswell’s friend had with scrapes and bruises."

road.jpg Gay Mormons reach out to LDS leaders: "They want the church to teach Mormon families to love and respect their gay sons and daughters, help gays and lesbians feel safe at church and to reconcile their sexual orientation and their spirituality. Affirmation had planned to make these points Monday when they were scheduled to meet with two LDS officials from the church's social services, but last month the church postponed the meeting indefinitely, said Dave Melson, Affirmation's assistant executive director, on Saturday. Instead, the LDS gay support group will present its proposals to the public at a Monday press conference."

road.jpg UK Sussex police force tells citizens to get on the beat, but sends them to a far different instructive website than they were expecting: "Designers at Sussex Police encouraged locals to get involved with Operation Beat Sweep, but directed them to a website advertising hardcore porn, policemen strippers, explicit gay movies, brothels and 'sexy adult costumes'. Instead of www.sussex.police.uk, the flyers carried the address www.sussexpolice.co.uk - a rogue site not linked in any way to the force."

road.jpg Costa Rican gay inmates denied conjugal visits: "The Constitutional Tribunal rejected a former inmate's appeal in a lawsuit against prison authorities who suddenly stopped his weekly conjugal visits to his partner, a current inmate he met when both served time in the same jail. The high court's brief ruling said the prison authorities' decision 'falls within the scope of their rights, duties and powers'."

road.jpg Bravo plans for life post-Project Runway: "Another ingredient in Bravo's success is that 'we're a very gay-friendly network,' Berwick says. Back during the late '90s, she continues, 'we saw the impact in the ratings of gay-themed movies and a series we ran called 'My Fire Island,' ' an acquisition from England's Channel 4 about a gay couple and a lesbian couple and their summer-house time-share. So when the idea for 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' came across Berwick's desk in 2003, she didn't have to agonize before flashing the green light. Within a year, 'Queer Eye' had taken off like a comet, becoming the biggest hit in Bravo's history and bringing lots of viewers to the channel for the first time."

road.jpg Bill Maher on the Olympics: "The Olympics are pretty gay. Have you seen the opening ceremonies? Makes Cirque de Soleil look like a John Wayne movie. It's become so feminized. We have to find out that the javelin thrower is fighting diabetes and he was brought up in an orphanage."

  1. I hope those goddamn Russians don't burn Atlanta to the ground like last time. Burn Savannah this time.

  2. Why is ABC so fixated on Edwards' affair and not on McCain's adultery?

Damn there's some nasty people on americablog.com. They make the bloggers on here seem tame.

  3. David Cook is looking like one of the animated characters from that new Star Wars movie.

And I can totally see that "invisibility" cloak.

  4. Uh, Edwards is now, Mccains crap happened years ago. That's why ABC and us are so fixated. Besides, let's face it it, it's sorta fun to watch the pretty boy twist. AND this story has a drug addled nympho, a cancer stricken wife AND a baby! Not to mention a coverup thats going to make Bill Clinton look like an amatuer. PLUS this man was trying to be POTUS! RECENTLY!

    This is good mija!

  5. Someone calls himself "TheVegasStyleGuy" and has the gall to diss someone else. Shouldn't what's retarded in Las Vegas stay in Las Vegas—and be denied Net access?

You're a runner-up to the "Dennis Miller Asshat Award" but Bill Maher, former "Man of the Year" for "The NON-Advocate," wins with another of his "feminine = gay" slurs.

Speaking of slurs, please tells us again why any self-respecting gay person watches Big Brother.

And, on the "feminine = gay" myth again, why don't the creeps er peeps at Bravo have the balls to broadcast real minstrel shows instead of the lavender-face versions? Some say "gay friendly"—I say gay exploitative.

  7. Michael Petrelis is a pox on our community. He is 1) Insane 2) Destructive 3) An Egomaniac 4) Hateful toward those he disagrees with 5) An ex-con for his abuse of HIV Hero's -- Why do you give him any air time?

  8. RE: thevegasstyleguy

    Ummmmm. ok.

    1) McCain is trying to be POTUS. Now.
    2) Edwards's infidelity is also from years ago.

So, is your assertion that the reason this story is relevant is a result of Edwards's virility vs McCain's impotence? Or is it just that you Think Edwards is prettier?

  9. as far as McCain or Obama courting Ms Jolie/Mrs Brad Pitt...I can't imagine her going for anyone BUT OBAMA...she's NOT stupid and Knows what the GOP stands for GREEDY OLD PARTY!

  10. There have been strong rumors about McCain's infidelity in recent years, not just the trading up that he did, dropping his first wife for Cindy.

And for something completely different: I can't believe anyone would be against more bike lanes in NYC.

  11. Awww... Hayes was going to be performing at the Silver Lake Sunset Junction Street Fair here in Los Angeles in a couple of weeks.

A few years ago he did a wonderful rendition of "Salty Balls" and the crowd went wild!

    Sad news. :(

  13. Oh I know invisibility already exists, trust me, on a Saturday night, people practically walk into me not knowing I am there.

  14. Oh, CHARLES, I hope that's true: a sex scandal involving the McCains. That would be wonderful! The only way we'd hear from JOHNNY LANE again would be if they have computer priviledges at his state's mental asylum.

That sleazy piece of crap from "Big Brother" (Ollie). I just spent 3 minutes on Youtube watching him with that sleazy tramp. They'd both be sorry excuses for porn models. God, how I hate black Republicans.

  15. As a gay bicyclist in NYC, I don't understand the bike lane controversy. There already IS a bike lane on 8th Ave. And as anyone who has tried to cycle in Manhattan knows, the current bike lanes are often useless due to delivery trucks and double-parked cars blocking the bike lane. So I say Bravo to an improved lane.

This whole "gay" angle seems manufactured and somewhat offensive to me as a gay person. We gay people somehow have a different sensibility about bike lanes? A delineated bike lane would somehow cause me to not hold my boyfriend's hand? Give me a break.

The takeover of crappy businesses and banks on Eighth Ave is doing far more to change the neighborhood than any bike lane could possible do.

  16. The John Edwards "sex scandal" is NOW, whereas McCain's were YEARS ago. John Edwards was fucking his skank while running for the presidency. This chick is living in a mansion (with no visible source of income), and it's been reported that his campaign manager has been making discreet monthly payments, to the mother of the child he claims is not his.

Sorry, but he deserves all of this attention. If any of this was happening to McCain, the media would be all over him as well.

  17. McCain does not put himself out there as a beacon of Righteousness. That's a yolk of bullshit the Lefties want to burden him with. He takes full responsibility for the end of his first marriage.

There are a lot of ways he could've tried to reassert himself after his POW experience and it seems pursuing a younger woman was his outlet. He's on good terms with his ex, the kids were taken care of.

He was not a bigamist just for obtaining a marriage license before the divorce was final since the marriage itself didn't happen until five weeks after the divorce was finalized.

Edwards held himself up as some kind of goody-goody, "2007 Father of the Year Award" winning, champion of the underdog while having an affair on his recurrent cancer-stricken wife, putting his unqualified mistress on his campaign payroll and continuing to lie about the affair all while running for president for his own ego.

I personally don't think it's much of a story other than basically worth ending any credibility he had on the political scene with women voters and making all MEN look like self-indulgent pigs.

For those who don't know about the Father of the Year award, here's the clip on YouTube posted by his own campaign!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow1pwtFpvq8

    He's a world-class tool.

  18. If she lowers herself to get involved in this election (it'd be a "branding" mistake in my mind) Angelina Jolie would never endorse McCain. Supporting a Republican is nearly universal poison in Hollywood especially this year.

In the last 15 yrs Bill Maher has certainly become an unfunny, irrelevant asshole. The worst punishment for someone like him is to be ignored.

Call me queer but I'd rather be called a faggot than gay.

  19. John Edwards has been quietly out of the public eye for many long months. John McCain is running for president.

McCain began seeing his current wife, Cindy, before he divorced his first wife, Carol. The first wife stayed faithful while McCain was a prisoner of war but after she was injured in an automobile accident on icy roads she wasn't pretty enough or young enough anymore for the wild fly-boy. He met Cindy, an attractive 25-year-old millionairess, in 1979 and began an adulterous relationship. He divorced Carol and married Cindy in May 1980.

  20. As far as I know it's McCain vs Obama, not McCain vs Edwards. One might ask why other Democrats let Edwards so much slack during the campaign.

I'll reiterate that in DC, a senator not having an affair is considered a laughingstock. They'd be writing Viagra jokes about him/her on bathroom walls.

    Posted by: anon | Aug 11, 2008 6:03:36 PM

  21. Like John Edwards, John McCain committed adultery behind the back of a trusting wife recovering from a life-threatening medical condition. Each showed a total disregard for their young children during their adulterous, narcissistic affairs. Each showed a great capacity to lie and expect the public and mainstream media to go along with them.

If these judgments apply to John Edwards, doesn't the same judgment apply to John McCain, who did virtually the same thing?

    Posted by: Charles | Aug 11, 2008 6:08:47 PM

  22. Bill Maher has always been supportive of the gay community. While his comments were not very "PC", but I take them with a grain of salt and know he is trying to be funny.

    Posted by: JD | Aug 11, 2008 6:16:26 PM

  23. Because someone at ABC news is so disheartened that "mAnne" Coulters' proclamation that Edwards is gay was far off base he is obsessing, can't let go, can't stop fantasizing. Oh the heartbreak! Maybe it's just penis envy

    Posted by: Robert | Aug 11, 2008 6:27:50 PM

  24. gay people need the bike lane too! the arguments against the bike lane are asinine.

UH, Leland. Look semi-precious maybe what SHOT IN YOUR MOTHER SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN YOUR MOTHER? Listen Dumbass, I don't know what your problem is but I stand by what I said. John Mccains crap happened yrs ago and John Edwards is right now. Are you fucking Edwards too? Is that why all that righteous venom is spewing from you? Or has it been 3days since you last had sex and the greens just started? If you want to go "nasty bitch fight" bring it ho.
