Alter: McCain Lucky Nobody's Brought Up 'Keating Five' Scandal

Jonathan Alter discussed McCain's position on the economy and the bailout with Keith Olbermann on Countdown and suggested that McCain's lucky nobody's mentioned the Keating Five scandal.

Alter_2Until now.

Said Alter: "...his reaction to that, you would have thought, would have been more regulation of the financial services industry. Instead he moved forward on campaign finance reform after being caught in that scandal, but did nothing - nothing - to try to prevent another savings and loan crisis from happening down the road. He was missing in action when it came to even learning the basic lessons of a scandal that he said taught him all kinds of things that he would never forget."

  1. 10 to 1 that this doesn't even make a dent in the McCain camp. I can not believe how much McCain gets away with during this election. Whomever runs against McCain should be way ahead in the polls. It makes one wonder...

  2. I can predict now that McCain's camp will turn the focus to the "missing in action" comment as some aspersion on his POW days. Sigh.

  5. FINALLY! Finally, someone brings up McCain's involvement in this countries previous financial downfall and bailout. Moveon.org...WAKE UP, this IS a series of commericals that need to be made. Despite being drug down a dirt road tied to the back of some yeehaws pickup truck, apparently the Obama campaign is above this kind of attack (can you say wimps). We've got 46 days left, let's get after it!

It is the "black tax". AA's have to work 2-3 times harder than a white person to get the same cred

Obama has responded to it in fact "....proud to work harder than the other guy."

The problem though with the current polls are 3 fold

1- don't count youth vote = younger voters do not own land lines (only land line 3s get called for polls) = add 2% to Obama's numbers

2- misbalancing turnout/ voter registration. I.e. polling 60% repubs and 40% dems. Though a more balanced poll would be calling 50% repubs and 50% dems, to be totaly accurate the calls should be tilted dem since dems have a 11 million + over repiubs new voter registration going on

3- undercounting Black votes in the polls. for example the recent SUSA Virginia poll , though it has Obama 6% ahead of mcshame in VA, counts AA voters as 19% of the electorate and those polled where as Kerry got 21% AA voter turn out (white kerry got 21% and you know Obama will get more)

In other words, all the polls are lower than they should be

The best thing to watch is the electoral college. The best place to see that is

    http://3bluedudes.com/ProjectDatabase.htm

They take ALL electoral college polls, show them, and average them (need 270 to win)

    MUNCHING THEM ALL 9/23

    O 262.1 (+.3) M 233.4 (-1)

Munching the Last 2 Days 9/23

    O 265.8 (+7.3) M 237.3 (-.7)

    Munching TODAY's Updates 9/23

    O 260.6 (+11.3) M 234.8 (+8.4)

Obama= ahead in 70 out of 82 electoral college polls

Mcshame = ahead 5 out of 82 electoral college polls

Tied 7 out of 82 electoral college polls

  10. Damn, I just asked why nobody seems to remember this on page 1. I certainly remember the scandal - $160 billion bail out, $124 billion paid by the taxpayers and mccain walked away with nothing but a slap on the wrist AND some very nice campaign contributions, gifts and expensive vacations for him and the beer bitch.
My questTion is WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN BROUGHT UP BEFORE?
