Barack Obama on The Late Show with David Letterman

Obamaletterman

Obama appeared on Letterman last night and talked about what he would have done immediately following 9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan, his first trip to the continental United States as a child after living in Hawaii, McCain running mate Sarah Palin, and, of course, pigs and lipstick.

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

Parts one and two, above. Three, below.

  2. I'm not sure what "she would be the lipstick" means and it will probably add fuel to the fire. It is beyond absurd that this is the top "news" story.

  3. hmmm, not good.. he should have apologized to the repubs so as to appear as the good guy in this scenario, you know, be a gentleman and not come across as a bully or too smug of which he has been accused before... again i wonder what he was thinking when he made the remark originally, perhaps some psychological subliminal thing was working in his mind, one wonders indeed...

  4. Sam

WTF? The only people saying she would be the lipstick are the mccain people.

More on his mentioning Bill Clinton in the letterman interview

    obama-says-bill-clinton-w_n_125550.html

    -Lunch today with bill
    - Sept 29 , Bill out campaigning in FL for Obama
    - plans for more fundraisers with bill in the works

Hopefully Bill today at lunch drills it home to Obama on keeping his message SIMPLE . "It is the economy stupid!" repeat...

  5. An apology would imply wrongdoing. Imho it's the Republicans who did all the wrongdoing here, taking a common phrase that obviously wasn't directed at Palin and twisting it to create a sexism smear. They are the ones who should be apologizing. Kudos to Barack for staying focused on the issues.

  6. No, dear Sis, no apologies with just 49 days to go. The Democrats must go full steam ahead. And there probably are a lot of Democrats who like the not-so-nice meaning of that "lipstick" statement. That woman is no saint, and she sho' aint no damn Virgin Mary. She can handle the lipstick on her snout.

  7. The Queen

    he did NOTHING WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To think he did is idiotic, and shows an utter lack of understanding of COMMON american colloquialisms. A colloquialisms that mccain himself has used.

    Get over it already

  8. Barack Hussein Obama is an amazing candidate and has run against the sleaziest Rovian campaign in my lifetime. He's done a great job thus far and more surrogates need to attack back for him. I can't wait for him to be my President.

@ The Queen: I totally disagree with you on an apology from BHO. He's stayed on the high road for months and in return McCain/Palin get nastier and nastier. Just look at their recent ad on Sex Ed. That's dispicable. McCain deserves nothing more than a kick in the ass and to the curb. That campaign lost their honor months ago.

  9. "one wonders indeed..."

    no, one doesn't.

  10. Queen, I could not disagree more. If he apologizes, he's acknowledging that he DID call her a pig. I think any thoughtful, informed person recognizes that he DID NOT call her a pig, and if he apologizes he's just giving in to 'politics as usual.' Say what you want about Obama, but at least he IS trying to change politics by not giving in to the Republicans' constant need to change the subject, since they cannot run on their record. Let's talk about ISSUES, and stop trying to lower the level of debate in this country even more.

  11. "he should have apologized to the repubs so as to appear as the good guy in this scenario"

I don't know what you're on lately (Karl Rove love juice?), Queen, but you're exactly wrong. You don't apologize to people who cynically manufacture offense to distract from the real issues, and you don't apologize when none is due. To have done so would have been both ridiculous and weak.

Logically (not that there is any real logic in this absurdity), Palin is in fact the lipstick (superficial distraction) dressing up John McCain's pig (lack of economic policy that differs from Bush), but that will go over the heads of the dim-witted majority.

How completely surreal, yet not surprising, that THIS has become a focus after 8 tragic years of Bush incompetence and deception.

  12. Washington post

"Enough," Obama declared yesterday while campaigning in Norfolk, Va. "I don't care what they say about me. But I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and Swift boat politics. Enough is enough."

AMEN to that. Enough with the lieing and phony outrage.

I hope Obama takes notes today during the lunch with Bill. Bill knows how to not only survive but thrive during a repub witch hunt. Even during the height of the repub witch hunt, Bill had 60%+ approval ratings.

  13. THE QUEEN is a fraud who has been ingesting Rove's nutwad for far too long. Poor thing.

  14. The Queen is just cutting and pasting the same comment on several different blogs. Remember those little troll dolls with fuzzy hair? Yeah. That.
