Get Stupid: Madonna's Political Backdrop Revealed

Here's the "Get Stupid" video Madonna uses as a backdrop during her Sticky and Sweet Tour, the one that John McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, who we've come to know quite well lately, felt compelled to condemn in late August.
The heavy-handed video showcases Madonna's support of Obama, grouping McCain with fellow worldwide celebrities Hitler, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, and Kim Jong Il and Mike Huckabee, while grouping Obama with the Dalai Lama, Al Gore, Bob Geldof, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Michael Moore, Bill Gates, JFK, Bono, and others...
Said Bounds: "The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time. It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits."
Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

I am EXTREMELY impressed by this and trust me, nothing Madonna has done in ten years has caught my interest. I don't see the direct McCain/Hitler comparisons. I think she is trying to say that the Republican party is following the same facist policies of Hitler. In any case, the end makes it seem like an advertisement for Obama and it's a little too explicit. Other than than, Madonna deserves an award for this. Oh, and those muscles!!!

I don't really believe for a second that any sane person garners their political affiliations through the babbling of someone like Madge or Babs. Frankly, I'd prefer that both of them would keep their mouths shut when it comes to political discussions; only because they come across as uninformed. That being said, the video is presented with the typical Madonna fabulousness that I've always loved about her. If it inspires just one person at the concert to get out and vote Democrat come November, then I believe she did her job.
Oh, and before I'm accused of trolling, this will be reposted on my blog www.partyfavorz.net.

Truly, the ageist and, dare i say, sexist comments about Madonna are way less constructive than her video.
Artists (commercial or otherwise) exist to ask questions, provoke thought and take you on an emotional journey (sorry, i just watched Truth or Dare last night).
Of course her audience is the choir but the "controversy" around it will hopefully give it a larger audience. Whether you agree with her presentation, she is clearly on the right (and by that I mean correct) side of this debate and we should be unifying against the McCain/Palin juggernaut as much as possible, not fighting amongst ourselves.
BTW - Tucker Bounds is clearly getting buggered by the Devil himself every night. And if not, he got a raw deal.

What I wouldn't give to punch out that prick Tucker Bounds.

Maybe she knows best since her attire these days is very Weimar Republic wearable?

The message I got from this is that while McCain may not be malicious as Hitler was his ignorance could destory just as many people. So the comparison isn't a direct one, the same could be said of Obama and Ghandi, Obama isn't the next Ghandi but his actions could do great things.
Artists have always had a view on the world around them, for some reason celebrities decided they were artists and things got a little mixed up, now it is all subjective, some think Madonna is just a celebrity others an artist.
Personally I respect Madonna's point of view, even when I don't always agree with it.

Sometimes I hate it when a good beat gets a lousy script like this song here.
I applaud her half-hearted, endlessly-jetting-around-the-world ways, but no self-respecting person gives one shit what Madonna REALLY thinks outside the recording studio.

Drew - What kind of back-handed, incoherent "compliment" is that? What does "jet-setting" have to do with this discussion?
And you totally discredit yourself with your last sentence. Will sounds way more self-respecting than you.
Madonna's 25-year career has always been about more than what she does in the recording studio. In fact, I would say all of her public endeavours outside the recording studio in the late 80's/early 90's helped me gain self-respect as she was one of the only (and certainly the most well known) stars to speak up against homophobia and educate people about AIDS. I grew up in Kentucky where the lack of role models and inherent bigotry was stultifying.
I don't think she deserves a medal (ok, maybe one) but to say "no self-respecting person gives one shit what Madonna REALLY thinks outside the recording studio" is just grossly misinformed and just plain mean. Are you one of McCain's campaign advisors? You sure sound like them.

I'm assuming that some of these comments are from Madonna's PR machine, because there is nothing mind-blowing about that video. Andy is exactly right: heavy-handed.
It's about as impressive as when Dee-Lite put out "Vote Baby Vote" in 1992. The song has five different words: "Vote Baby [Vote] Are You Registered [Baby]." Ad infinitum. Lady Miss Kier performed it at the Trannshack finale a couple weeks ago and continued to act like it was a powerful message.
If people are so stupid that they don't know that they should vote for decency and need a pop star to tell them to do so, well then this country will get what it doesn't deserve but most likely will receive.

Heavy handed is a really polite way to describe what sad, washed-up Madonna does for attention...errr...art these days.
What's her cult's stance on gays again?

i personally don't see her making hitler and mccain parallels (or whichever other leader one wants to compare mccain to). when mccain ads basically said that obama was a celebrity by portraying his media coverage to britney spears (making him a negative media darling), it wasn't the same as saying, "here's what's going on or has gone on in some countries when you follow a doctrine or ideology that only benefits a small percentage of the population."
but, personally, i love when she juxtaposes image with a new meaning to her songs...it's interesting what she's able to do with her music with the visual.

OMG! It's like the sequence in 'The Parallax View' when Warren Beatty gets brainwashed! It's so over-the-top - I love it!!!
