GLAAD: LGBT representations on network television to double this year. "GLAAD's 13th annual "Where We Are On TV" report shows that LGBT representations will account for 2.6% of all scripted series regular characters on the 2008-2009 broadcast television schedule, up from 1.4% in 2005, 1.3% in 2006, and 1.1% in 2007. In contrast, the number of LGBT series regular characters found on scripted programming on mainstream cable networks has decreased since last year's analysis, from 40 to 32."
STUDY: Chimps can recognize friends from the rear. "Primatologists [at] the Yerkes National Primate Research Centre at Emory University..tested how well six adult chimpanzees could link pictures of various chimpanzee behinds, either male or female, with photos of individual chimp faces. But the chimps succeeded only if the faces were of chimps they knew. This suggests, the researchers say, that the chimps weren't simply detecting generic visual cues in the faces that would link them to the behind in question. Rather, it seems that the chimps must be capable of what psychologists call 'whole body' integration."

Gay man with HIV bashed in Brighton UK: "There was a man outside being rowdy and shouting obscenities at the women inside and passing in the street. When I left I rounded the corner and the man and his friend ran up behind me, punched me to the floor and then battered me. If they had kicked me in the left side of my head they would have probably killed me because I had metal clips fitted after a brain haemorrhage in 1996."

Is America's red/blue divide based in physiology? "Alford and his colleagues studied a group of 46 adult participants with strong political beliefs. Those individuals with 'measurably lower physical sensitivities to sudden noises and threatening visual images were more likely to support foreign aid, liberal immigration policies, pacifism and gun control, whereas individuals displaying measurably higher physiological reactions to those same stimuli were more likely to favor defense spending, capital punishment, patriotism and the Iraq War,' the authors wrote."

There are certain folks I can recognize from the back: Bill Cosby, James Garner, Brad Pitt, Kenny Norton Sr., Cuba Gooding Jr (of course), Donovan McNabb, Tiger Tyson, Brian Pumper, Tim Liggins, Omarion, and with no disrepect, Slim Jim...he's put on a little something since the primaries ended.

One of the TV characters on GLAAD's list is Roger the Alien from "American Dad."
Nice to see that they're recognizing the oft underlooked gay extra-terrestrials.

i've always thought that those men who were easily spooked were the more aggressive.
this clearly explains bush's and cheney's war, and male republicanism.

The people of Iran should be ashamed of themselves, the world should not allow this, it is wrong and should stop. Fuck oil this is the kind of thing we need to protect against.

Wow - I know this is Andy's blog and all, but is the Iran death penalty story really so unimportant as to be relegated to a one line blurb in a news synopsis post?
I wonder what McCain/Palin's foreign policy would be on this issue...

Hey, where's the report of the launch of Obama's "FAITH TOUR". You know, its set for California in the coming weeks when Obama will feature his buddy and spiritual advisor that supports The Antigay Marriage Amendment thats also being voted on in November. No mention that his African American voter turnout could turn out to be bad when they also vote for the Amendment as they cast their vote for Barack. Reminds me of the beginning of his campaign with the Gospel Tour featuring ex-gay Donnie McClurkin. You guys have been fawning over Obama but you are overlooking some problems with your devotion to a man who is not our friend.

Obama may not be our "friend" but he is a hell of a lot better than the alternative.

Re: red/blue divide: 46 people does not a study make.
P.S. When are we going to nuke Iran. And why is KTU playing old New Kids on the Block?

This has nothing to do with the story but if you live in or visit Las Vegas please don't patronize THE EAGLE.
While trying to set up an OBAMA PRIDE event I was told they couldn't do "a Democratic event because we're McCain supporters!"!
