Obama Responds to McCain Debate Postponement Stunt
Barack Obama responded to McCain's call for a postponement of the debates in a press conference (something McCain has avoided for 40 days now) this afternoon.
Said Obama: "With respect to the debates, it’s my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess. And I think that it is going to be part of the president’s job to deal with more than one thing at once. I think there’s no reason why we can’t be constructive in helping to solve this problem and also tell the American people what we believe and where we stand and where we want to take the country."

Funny shit on Drudge:
EXCLUSIVE: LETTERMAN MOCKS MCCAIN CANCELLATION
Wed Sep 24 2008 17:41:58 ET
David Letterman tells audience that McCain called him today to tell him he had to rush back to DC to deal with the economy.
Then in the middle of the taping Dave got word that McCain was, in fact just down the street being interviewed by Katie Couric. Dave even cut over to the live video of the interview, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?"
Earlier in the show, Dave kept saying, "You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his metamucil."
"He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sara Palin. Where is she?"
"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"

Obama shows leadership and answers questions from the press. McCain readss a short statement and asks for a time out. McCain has not been in the Senate all year, now he wants to stop the campaign? Give us all a break, John. If it is so vital, why are you not there today? Or tomorrow? Or Saturday? But no, the only time you have available is on the night of the Friday night debate. More McCain, more lies.

Obama has it right. McCain has had 25 years in the Senate to deal with the US economy where he never saw a tax-cut for the rich he didn't like or a regulation on the fat-cats he could support.
This is a cynical ploy from the McCain campaign to distract from their morally- and idea-bankrupt campaign. Shameful!
I used to at least have respect for McCain as a man and a Senator -- but he is eroding that respect day-by-day. Clearly, he's not fit to lead.

well dahlings we continue to be riveted to the tube champagne glasses in hand as the general consensus pours in and has to admit that it was a brilliant move by mccain to go back to washington and work at the economy as obama blathers away about the debates which i doubt anybody cares about anymore at this stage of the game. who knows this may even force bush to call an emergency session of congress and if that happens my dahlings, then mccain will truly emerge as savior of our country and you certainly can't beat that.. history is in the making dahlings... be there or be square!... obama just might wind up with egg all over his face big time speaking to an empty chair this friday... we shall see...

Our own Barney Frank on McCain's request for a delay in the debate:
"It the longest Hail Mary pass in the history of either football or Marys"
Priceless.

McCain wants to shy away from talking to the American people at exactly the time we NEED to hear from our future leaders...how, then are we expected to believe McCain is fit to govern? If, as President, things get rough, will he just postpone addressing us because he hasn't got it together?
Ironically, McCain and Paulson are two of the people who aided and abetted this mess in the first plave, McCain by his voting record on financial oversight, and Paulson as CEO of Goldman Sachs, where he received a $38 million bonus before leaving the company, at a time when he knew full well this disaster was coming...
If Obama stands alone in Ole Miss on Friday, it will be an opportunity for him to have a bully pulpit and state clearly, concisely, and for the record what his plans and policy for dealing with our economy will be.

Some trivia
Repub Teddy Roosevelt (later left the party, denounced the party , and formed own party = bull moose party)
SHOT in assassination attempt during a speech. The Tough SOB continued the speech!!! Then when the speech was finished did he step down and get medical help.
mcshame is a wussy

rather than have to make an effort to solve a problem, to lead the country out of this mess, obama chooses to talk about it. he is voting present again. this is what scares me about obama, refusing to go on record, or attempting to solve a problem. there is much about mccain i detest, but he makes the effort.

re:nathan james. while obama maybe speaking alone in mississippi, mccain will be in washington attempting to solve the problem.

Titus:
Nice try, but the general consensus of the electorate is that the debates should proceed as planned. They see this stunt by McCain as nothing but a photo op. McCain isn't on the finance committee examining this socialization of Wall St.

@THE QUEEN, et al:
stfu already! haven't you soiled yourself enough?
while americans abandon the repugs in droves (obama opened a 9 point lead in a nat'l poll today), THE QUEEN and her alters along with QUEENDRU (what is it with the self-aggrandizing noms de blog?) keep tilting at windmills, and the log cabinettes keep on trudging. what a sorry sight. it is just sad.
mcshame and the bitch are scurrying away like cockroaches scurry when a kitchen light is turned on. it is just sad.

My jaw literally dropped when I read this... unbelievable... I thought I had seen everything - but I'm sure if we give it a few more hours he'll come up with something even more cynical. Ugh...

Titus-
Your reasoning blows me away. McCain has said nothing which leads me to believe that he is 'making the effort', unless it is the effort to evade the press and the public, which he has been doing for a long time now (as has his running mate). Obama, who, by the way, took questions from the press when you said he was 'voting present', is ready to meet head to head with everyone watching. You need to rethink your logic.

well, JIMMYBOYO, you keep bringing the facts. you, my friend, can tell the difference between s@it and shinola or chicken sh*t and chicken salad or a dog and pony show (or should that be a bitch and horse shi% show?)and reality.
thank you. i am sick and tired of the repugs turning tail and running without even making a fake effort at scratching dirt to cover up their dog sh#t.

oh, and this:
COURIC: You've said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?
PALIN: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie--that, that's paramount. That's more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.
COURIC: But he's been in Congress for 26 years. He's been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.
PALIN: He's also known as the maverick though. Taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about--the need to reform government.
COURIC: I'm just going to ask you one more time, not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation?
PALIN: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.

A time out? Seriously? I haven't gotten a time out since I was a misbehaving eight year old! There are no time outs when you want to be a leader of the United States.

don't count on it NIC.... surprises are yet in store, and the fat lady hasn't finished singing yet... the fact that me and countess have our hacker (could be more than just one who knows?) impersonating us just goes to show you how much we've struck a nerve and just may be right... in any case, we're booth enjoying the attention... and you know what they say, when you have somebody impersonating you-- you have really arrived.... so hold on to your tampons... nothing is for certain, least of all in politics and like i keep on saying, don't underestimate the republicans -- they're pretty saavy and didn't get where they're at for nothing... there just be some method to all this madness... thank you willy s.

With all these Queens and their "hackers" (i.e. split personalities) running around in here, I'm gonna need a truckload of tampons to hold on to.
P.S. Obama played this exactly right. He's looking presidential while McCain's looking scared out of his remaining wits.
