Towleroad Guide to the Tube #352
STEPHANIE CUTTER: Michelle Obama's chief of staff slams John McCain over 'pig in lipstick' nonsense. Where was McCain when one of his supporters called Hillary Clinton a bitch?
RAPE KITS: MSNBC is onto Sarah Palin...
GAVIN NEWSOM: Speaks out against Prop. 8. If you missed our interview with him at the DNC, check it out here.
9 TO 5: The musical opened the other night, and when it abruptly halted mid-performance because one of the sets malfunctioned, Dolly Parton, who was in the audience, saved the day by giving an impromptu performance. She rocks.

Dolly is SO AWESOME!! I'm glad someone was able to get that on film. I just wish the clip was longer.

Gavin Newsom is AMAZING. Where the FUCK is California Senator Diane Feinstien on Prop 8??? Less than 2 months out and she's SILENT. I guess she figures that since she's running for the governorship of California in a few years against Gavin and Antonio V(LA Mayor)she wants to position herself as the more "moderate" and "traditional" candidate and appeal to those voters turned off by the message of equality that Gavin and Antonio will be promoting. The California Supreme Court has spoken Diane and you should really start to LISTEN and take ACTION or retire and get the fuck out of public office. Diane is such an incredible disappointment considering how much support/$$$ the GLBT community has given her over the years.

The rape test thing brings up the facts that
-mccain voted against Biden's law requiring rape tests to be free of charge to the victim across the nation and in all Native American territories
-mccain as recent as 2007 voted against funding Biden's law to require rape tests to be free of charge to victims.

Not many performers would do that! Dolly is a class act!

OK, I adore Dolly as much as the next queen, but it seems like that might have been staged. That she would have, at moment's notice, been able to jump up, been given a mike, have appropos musical backup, and have her voice prepared? Seems a bit much to ask/expect.
That said, I would friggin loved to have been there.

But WAY more important than Dolly is the fact that Gavin Newsom has more balls and brains that nearly any other politician in CA or nationwide. I'm incredibly proud to have him as my mayor, and smirk as the petty brats on the city council try to undermine him.
Jealous much?

WOW. I actually love Dolly a little bit more! Didn't know that was possible! Had the pleasure of meeting her years ago and let me be one of the thousands who would attest, she's one of the nicest, warmest, friendliest people you could ever encounter.
The lady is 100% class and such an amazing talent.

I'm not that surprised Dolly was ready. When you've been performing as long as she has, you know what you're doing. You're a pro. I think what this shows is that she has far more musical talent than folks realize. Go-head Dolly!

vid 1: good on cutter for calling the mccain campaign on their hypocrisy.
vid 2: good to see that people are being made aware of palin's anti-woman, religious-right positions.
vid 3: my god, gavin is a handsome, sexy sumbitch.
vid 4: dolly is a class act.

Dolly Parton is a musical prodigy, plain and simple. She has poured her energy into making this musical production a success. I'm not at all surprised that she would jump up and help out, why would she just sit there and watch her baby die? I was fortunate enough to see a Backwoods Barbie concert a couple of weeks ago and it was nothing short of amazing. She played no less than eight or nine different instruments flawlessly, and engaged with the crowd between songs. It was the closest thing I've ever had to a religious experience. Luckily for me, one of my best friends is related to Judy, Dolly's best friend and assistant and I've had great pleasure of meeting her...and she was one of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. And growing up in Nashville, I have met loads and loads of artists, but none compare to Dolly.
