Towleroad Guide to the Tube #353

OBAMA WAFFLES: Two dudes at the Values Voters Summit sell "Obama Waffles" but don't think they're racists. The Family Research Council distances itself, but Lou Dobbs offers them a big endorsement.

LES MISBARACK: Created by the group Ultimate Improv.

PALIN PROTEST: Alaskan women turn out by the hundreds to protest Sarah Palin in Anchorage.

IKE: Reporter nearly gets blown away by the hurricane.

  1. REPUBLICAN, the official party of racists, homophobes, and misogynists... all under one big fetid tent.

  3. That protest rally in Alaska was amazing. WOW. McCain/Palin-Incontinence and Incompetence. McCain/Palin-Unstable and Unable. Wrong Message,Wrong Woman. Real Leaders don't have to cram for their interviews.

  4. The "Les Miserables" bit is hysterical, especially with McCain and Palin as the Thenardiers. Surprisingly, at the end, I was rather moved as well as amused. (Hope Obama isn't crushed like the French student's rebellion was...)

I was willing to try to give the waffle guys the benefit of the doubt, until I saw the pics on the box. The question, as usual with many Republicans, is: are they really that clueless, or does their bon vivant surface mask venality and slime beyond most people's comprehension?

  5. Queen, you are not funny at all.

  6. Who's the reporter being pounded by Ike?

  7. Q: to quote the immortal bette midler "fuck 'em if they can't take a joke!"

  8. Ha! I love that they are trying to pass off their waffles as political satire and not racism. Because Aunt Jemima analogies and pictures of Barack in a turban really add to the flow of intelligent politcal discourse.

  9. The weather man is Mike Bettes from the Weather Channel (we used to say Mike Bettes - weather with swish. But he seems to have butched up a bit lately.)

    Love Les MisBarack, clever.

  10. The waffle boys kept digging themselves in deeper and deeper with each new explanation of their "satire."

  11. I guess if the New Yorker can call its offensive/racist cover of Obama "satire," then I guess these fools can call their waffle mix satire as well.

  12. For the record, Lou Dobbs is pro gay marriage and fairly vocal about it. Just sayin'.

  13. Everything about the Obama waffles and their creators is incredibly distasteful.

Not to mention, at this point there isn't a politician in the world who hasn't waffled on issues. And I think that objective analysis shows way more of that from McCain. He's bowed way more to evangelicals, while Obama has probably stayed too liberal for a lot of (idiot) voters. If the ongoing meltdown of major financial institutions isn't enough to show Americans the errors of deregulating everything and fostering greed, I have no idea what will. I'd love to say they deserve what they get from their elected officials, but it affects me too.

The guys hawking the waffles remind me of the two hicks who tried to pass off the Bigfoot corpse a few weeks ago. I wonder which couple made more money off their BS.

  14. Steven: there's a big difference between the New Yorker cover and a bunch of yahoos who are clearly aligned with the opposition. One is satire (or even meta-satire) and the other a smear. You guess which is which.

  15. Mmm, yummy! Good old fashioned GOP racism.

Where better for those good ol' Christian boys to peddle their edible pickininy-art than at a good ol' GOP Family Research Council fun-fest? How could they lose? Two favorite GOP pastimes - - eating & hating (not necessarily in that order).

  17. Lou Dobbs supports Gay marriage...go figure! If Lou Dobbs was 800 years younger, he'd be Gay, no doubt!
