It's Fright Week in Pottsville

Check out this clip of McCain-Palin supporters in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. It's likely scarier than anything you'll see this Halloween, AFTER THE JUMP...
ALSO:
Obama effigy found hanging at University of Kentucky: "It is with profound sadness that I must report to you that an effigy of Obama was found hanging from a tree on campus this morning. It was taken down immediately, but the damage and hurt will linger for a long time. I literally feel sick to my stomach. There will be a statement from the President shortly, and we are also considering other expressions of outrage. In the meantime, please alert your staff and be prepared to counsel students, staff, and faculty of color, in particular, as needed."
Deer head found outside Obama office in Colorado Springs: "The Humane Society says the buck's antlers had been cut off to make the head resemble a donkey, the symbol of the Democratic Party. Right now, police have no suspects."
Get off my lawn: Ohio man shoots teen who tried to steal his McCain yard sign.

So...you mean Murtha was talkin' straight about PA? I am shocked. Shocked to find there's racism in Pennsylvania. Now where's my winnings?

This is what we have going to the polls to vote. The same fools who voted for Bush twice. They have requirements for theme park rides, why don't we have requirements for voting? lol "You have to be 'this intelligent' to cast this vote"...

I don't know what's scarier, how they look, or the fact that they are so clueless as to think that anything McCain/Plain are actually concerned about anything that affects them in their daily lives.
Pitiful what hate breeds.

WHITE IS RIGHT! WHITE IS RIGHT!!
...right?

I just spent 5 minutes staring at this empty text box... speechless. I wish something could be done about people who say 'I wouldn't vote for him because he's black'... On top of down-right stupid, isn't it some sort of hate crime? People ought to be punished.

I love the guy who says that he is a Democrat but "won't for a black man." But, as he admits, he wants to use another word than "black."
So, given the obvious and blunt racism expressed by McCain supporters, how long after the election will the Rethugs go on to say that "there is no more racism" in America?
If we should learn something from this video is not only how powerful racism is still part of American life, but also how easily Americans can be brainwashed to believe falsehoods. The GOP is a master of manipulation, post-election, I can only wonder if Obama wins what hell they plan to release.
The GOP Hate-machine unleashed nearly a decade of lies against Bill & Hillary Clinton beginning with the Arkansas project, a well-funded smear campaign, and then followed that with exploiting Monica Lewinsky & Bill Clinton's affair.
If one reads the messaging from the Christian Right and the statements from Sarah Palin, gay Americans will be used to divide the nation. Obama's pledge to allow for end of DADT, DOMA, and civil unions will be a rallying cry. If things are heated now in California, can you imagine that on a national level?
BTW, I wonder how many of those people video taped spouting their hate will appreciate the near eternal life of their images and words. Will they be confronted on an individual basis at some point to address their statements?

and to top it off, why on earth do obama supporters continue to taunt and film mccain supporters? to what purpose? one only succeeds in antagonizing them, it certainly is not going to change their minds. it's so childish and infantile... leave those people alone for crissakes .. egads...

These people are lower than monkeys. They are the dumb sheep; too dumb to pull the dagger off their shaggy, fat asses. They deserve to be filmed and have their images preserved for posterity. Collaborators had their heads shaved in France. The shame will serve the same purpose. Of course, most of these assholes are too stupid for shame. They make me sick.

When I see these videos from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana, I think of James Carville's crack about Pennsylvania being Philly on one side, Pitts on the other with Alabama in between, and how being compared to these assholes is an insult to Alabama.

Sorry ass bunch of banjo-pickin' cousin datin' gun taunting bible-thumping bigoted racist homophobic barefoot embarrassments to society. Those racist hateful Mother-F**kers will get theirs in Hell. That goes for any other racist asshole who condones this shit.

Ahhh How Rovian!! They have used "Buzz" words to energize the McCain folks and they gave them reasons to "Hate" him and quantify why "They Cannot Vote for HIM""" he is a terrorist, a socialist, a baby killer, a Muslim, not born here, liar, crook, but not Black, not a N****R, all these people needed was a "Scapegoated word" so they can justify there racist bigoted views!!! so sad

I live in a rural area in Indiana and there are LOTS of Obama signs in yards here... and people are not scared of saying they're proud to be supporters of him.
These McCainites really look pathetic compared to the Obama supporters shown... Scared, angry and pathetic. I almost feel sorry for them in their ignorance.
Posted by: johnny | Oct 29, 2008 3:29:47 PM
Well, I don't think that Obama's election will mean the end of racism because racists aren't going to vote for him. His presidency might change a few minds though. Give it some time.
Posted by: anon | Oct 29, 2008 3:32:28 PM
yes, there certainly are plenty of folks that are so filled with hate and contempt for the world that they would never vote for a black man for president... it's truly tragic to see these people so proud of their position.
But, we must remember that this is NOT America. These people do not represent America and what we stand for and where we are heading. Just like Barack said last week about the two skinheads that planned to go on a killing spree ending with Obama's assassination.
There is HOPE! Go out and vote!

obviously a bunch of recently unemployed $250,000 stock brokers who are fearful of additional taxes... these light bulbs are too dim to realize that they'll benefit from Obama's initiatives... but that will as fast as they can get their hands out for a handout.

Sounds like they can use some Pot in Pottsville. Maybe chill the f' out.

I live in Northern Ohio and Palin spoke here today. My daughter said kids skipped school (jr. high) and showed up at the end of the day with "Nobama" shirts on. 80% of the signs in this town are for Obama. My greatest fear is that this man or his family are going to be hurt. For those of you who don't realize it you don't have to live in the North to be ignorant, it is everywhere. The video had me crying instantly. If only people would listen and realize change is good and necessary.

For a while I would get so outraged at these rally videos. I seriously hadn't seen anything like it except on PBS shows showing footage from the 50's and 60's. Now I just find their panic and desperation funny. This election season ought to make for some lively sociology classes for the college set.

If racist white people get this riled up over a black man running for president; I can't wait to see what happens when a Latino or an Asian run for president. Latinos and Asians Americans are perceived as "very foreign" so I expect even more outrage from this idiots.

Palin's lies have worked. The $150K spent on clothes was a great investment. Next thing to prove..the world is flat and Obama caused that to happen.
Posted by: Scott | Oct 29, 2008 6:05:21 PM
Such bigotry and hatred can only be inflamed by ignorance.
And ignorance is the path taken by those too lazy to think.
It's important to confront and challenge prejudice in the dark corners where it lurks, and show people the light of another, better way...
Peace | love

So wait...is it OK that the man out west (whom I believe is gay) hung a Sarah Palin manequin outside the house? Let me be clear. I do not agree with the hanging Obama at all, but does anyone else see a problem with "faking" a hanging of anyone? If the hanging of Obama is disgusting, why isn't the hanging of Palin??? I don't recall anyone in an outrage about that?
Posted by: BC | Oct 29, 2008 7:20:19 PM
BC, as usual, you're wrong.
With one exception, ALL comments on the Palin hanging in effigy were very negative. I have no idea why you, as you write "don't recall" it -- maybe there's a memory issue? Andy's headline was about "Halloween Hate" and his comment: "As much as I despise the GOP ticket, mimicking the hate and racist imagery that McCain supporters have been flaunting with regard to Obama isn't funny or original. It's just stooping to their level."
I like the idea that they're all recently out of work bankers earning $250K plus. Of course most McCain crowds aren't there, because they're working (unlike the slackers for Obama, who turn up any time).

Ignorance ain't pretty, is it? Mind-blowing how stupid and hateful people can be.
And, BC, as KevinVT pointed out, there was a long list of Towleroad comments from people appalled and disgusted by the Palin mannequin, so why are you claiming everyone thought it was OK? We didn't think it was OK, and we said so. Are you misinformed or deliberately distorting the response à la FOX? Focus your anger on the real haters out there (like the ones above) instead of channeling it incorrectly towards your fellow gay men.
