Solid Gold Supermodel Kate Moss Statue Needs to Eat as Well

Artist Marc Quinn unveiled a solid gold statue of Kate Moss in London as part of an except called "Statuephilia: Contemporary Sculptors at the British Museum".
It's 50kg and reportedly the largest gold statue produced since Ancient Egypt.
But what you really have to love is the contextual ad that pops up on the report about it.

I bet I'll be in the minority here, but I think it's beautiful, especially in that side shot of it.

DARB - You beat me to it. The statue IS rather beautiful, and with 50kg of gold, it could have been completely gaudy. Quinn could have burnished the hell out of it until we were in Koons territory, but the surface is quite subdued, not to mention the form (as you note) striking. Much more successful than his other works. (Remember the pregnant Britney? Or the Paris Hilton autopsy?)
This appears to be only one (probably the best) in a series of sculptures that Quinn did of Kate Moss: another has her seated and emaciated in a meditation position like many Southeast Asian gilded and wooden sculptures of the Buddha. Fascinating how he has chosen Moss as the site for engaging in a plethora of cross-cultural references, which in this form are both shocking and a little humorous. The more I think about it the more I like it...

There's something very J-Horror about the pose.

Is it "except" or "excerpt?"

Victor -- I'm reading it as "exhibit" or "exhibition" per the screenshot above it (says "... Museum" exhibition in central London...."
I thought it was Shiva or Kali at first, not Kate Moss. But then again, I know neither my Hindu gods nor my supermodels.

Even a life size solid gold Kate Moss probably wouldn't weigh more than 50 lbs.
