News: Sarah Palin, Sperm Washing, Zac Efron, Lady Gaga, NYPD

road.jpg McCain's top lawyer, Trevor Potter, is gay: "As the campaign’s general counsel, Potter has been identified by newspapers such as the New York Times and Washington Post as one of the nation’s most highly regarded experts on U.S. election laws. Potter has been credited with helping draft the McCain-Feingold Act, a bipartisan federal measure that reformed federal campaign finance laws. But few mainline news outlets have reported on Potter’s other role as a high-level, openly gay adviser to McCain."

Spermwashingroad.jpg Kevin Sessums takes a look at the trend of sperm washing: "Most of the gay men who go the surrogacy route are HIV negative, but because of the 'sperm washing' technique initially developed for heterosexual couples dealing with infertility issues, HIV positive men, who are living long and healthy lives because of the drugs now available to them, are also increasingly becoming fathers."

road.jpg Lawrence King's killer Brandon McInerney to undergo psychiatric tests: "Ventura County Superior Court Judge Kevin McGee appointed psychiatrist Ronald Thurston and psychologist Marlene Valter to examine McInerney and determine whether he has the ability to understand the nature of the criminal proceedings and assist his lawyers in his defense."

road.jpg Gay NYPD officer found guilty of sexually harassing two male sergeants and creating a lewd, hostile work environment: "Lt. Kieran Crowe, 50, denied the allegations, and blamed his behavior on 'jock itch.' Sgts. Dominic Coppola and Sean Gallagher filed an internal complaint against Crowe in 2004, when all three men worked at the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity at Police Headquarters. They also sued the city and the NYPD in Manhattan Federal Court. The sergeants said Crowe, a 23-year NYPD veteran, simulated masturbating and wiggled his tongue at them in a sexually suggestive manner in the 12th-floor office which, ironically, investigates harassment in the workplace."

road.jpg Florida student receives Playboy Hugh M. Hefner First Amendment Award for sticking up for LGBT students: "Heather Gillman, 17, now a high school senior in Ponce de Leon, FL, received a $10,000 award for her fearlessness in speaking out on behalf of the rights of gay students. Gillman successfully sued the local school board after her high school principal banned students from wearing t-shirts, stickers, buttons, or symbols showing support of equal rights for gay students."

road.jpg NYT to publish narrative of Palin pick in Sunday magazine: "Having interviewed several of the Senator's chief aides, Draper details the process by which McCain ultimately chose his running mate (New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg was surprisingly high on the list). And the decision may have been even more impulsive than initially thought. Gov. Sarah Palin, who had never been on the VP shortlist, was advanced at the last minute by Schmidt and Rick Davis, and was picked after a chat with McCain at his ranch in Arizona." 1. Andy? Nothing at all about Sen. Obama's surprise drop in on Ellen's show yesterday? Nothing about how he didn't mention Prop 8 and Ellen failed to ask him about it? Odd. You're usually up on these things.

  2. Three news clips related to our next Vice President (according to the AP polls), but nothing about Miss Louisiana, "Hairspray" or "Spamalot".

    Two demerits to Andy.

  3. Mike, did you miss Biden's appearance on Ellen's show? Where he speaks very candidly on Prop 8? Guess you missed that.

  4. Hey guys, ever hear of constructive (i.e., non-bitchy) criticism?

  5. I repeat: Lorne Michaels should be euthanized for "normalizing" Sarah Palinolithic.

Actually, he should have been put to sleep long ago for putting viewers to sleep but....

  6. CJ, Biden is not on the top of the ticket. Sen. Obama can speak directly to the AFAm community which is probably going to sick the Vote No effort in CA. And don't give me that bullshit that Sen. Obama avoiding the issue is for the good of the party when the gay community was all over HRC for dropping "T" rights "for the good of the community"

  7. I'm with you, Mike. I just couldn't believe that Obama went on Ellen to show off his dance moves and didn't mention No on 8. Maybe he could have worn a purple leotard bedazzled with "No on 8" ... oh, wait, why didn't he hire Debbie Allen to choreograph a "No on 8" interpretative dance routine for him to perform? For shame, Obama.

  8. Fine, okay, I'll say it: I'm not usually into twinks, but fuck me, Zac Efron has a hot body.

  9. Obama on Ellen was a re-run.

    Ignore the KAPOS.

  10. David. Obama's appearance was not a repeat. Joe Biden mentioned it during a speech today. He appeared on the show prior to leaving to see his Grandmother.

  11. Mike:

I have no problem you calling out Obama on not mentioning his opposition on Prop. 8 on the Ellen Show. But for the last time, stop isolating the African American community as the sole homophobic community. The African American population isn't significant enough to ensure that Prop. 8 doesn't pass. In fact, Latinos outnumber them in the state by almost double. African Americans are barely 9% of the total population. You should be more concerned about the Caucasian population, the actual voting majority. That community put the initiative on the ballot and they've also funded the shit out of it.

  12. Oh Mike, you silly goose. we have missed you here. Well silly, why would Obama repeat Biden and his own stance that they support civil unions? Unlike Republican's, Democrat's don't need to be retold things over and over again to become mindless drones. Obama has spoken out against Prop 8. Perhaps it was moot.

However, where does McCain stand? Where does Palin stand? Oh, they want to define marriage as between a man and a woman. So, because Obama didn't say anything about Prop 8 on a daytime show, he's a baaaad man, right?

Mike, give it up. You constantly comment on Towleroad with statements that are ludicrous. You are incessantly digging for any thing to slam Obama, and it borderlines on insanity. Keep on trying silly goose, it's giving us oodles of entertainment. Tee hee.

  13. Sugar: Nobody is blaming the AfAm community for anything...it's a discussion about the bigger goal. Sen. Obama can have an impact on the AfAm vote on this issue and their number, however small, does help. It's a FACT that their anti-gay stance is higher as an over all % than any other community. We could use his assistance.

CJ: You have me confused with someone else. I am an Obama supporter, I disagree with him on this issue. I don't wish that Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden would repeat their stance on civil unions, that is painfully known. I wish they would take a vocal and public stand on Prop 8. The Vote Yes campaign is already featuring Sen. Biden in their ads from the night of the VP debates. The repeating of their stance is not for Democrats, it's for the independents and those that are able to be swayed.

And for God's sake, save your McCain is a douche speech for someone that disagrees with you.

  17. My apologies Mike, there is another Mike on here who posts constantly with disparaging remarks. I assumed from your comment you were one and the same. My apologies :).

  18. Mike:

The problem with you targeting the African American community with your posts is that Obama could just as easily target Latinos that make a bigger slice of the population pie and would actually defeat this bill. He has already voiced his opposition to this bill.
