GLAAD's Damon Romine Married in Double Father-Son Wedding

GLAAD's Director of Entertainment and Media Damon Romine (below, left) wed his partner of nine years, Charles Robbins (right), executive director of The Trevor Project, yesterday at the Viceroy Hotel in Palm Springs.

RomineIn a first-of-its-kind twist, they were wed along with Damon’s father, David Romine and his partner Larry Barrett, of Topeka, KS, who have been together for 16 years.

Here is the New York Times announcement.

It's believed to be the first double wedding ceremony in the state shared by a father and son since marriage equality took effect in June. Among the guests were Star Trek actor George Takei and his partner Brad Altman. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds — both pairs — were the guests of actor Leslie Jordan at his one-man show My Life on the Pink Carpet.

Congrats to both happy couples!

  1. Classic NYTimes wording: "George Takei and his HUSBAND Brad Altman" would have been more proper unless the couple prefers the term "partner".

  2. It is an interesting choice, Anon. The day that the Times refers to ``George W. Bush and his partner Laura`` or ``Cindy McCain, the partner of the Republican candidate John,`` it would be entirely appropriate to refer likewise for George Takei and Brad.

  3. His dad's gay? Man. What? I guess I'm happy for them. If I were in that wedding, I might feel a tad awkward, though.

  4. "If I were in that wedding, I might feel a tad awkward, though."

Brendan, why would you feel awkward? When I married my husband, my son was my best man. His boyfriend watched from the congregation. The odds were just about even that he would show up with a girfriend. Sometimes things just don't go the way you expect them to.

  5. Odd, would you refer to a straight couple's spouse as "partner"? I would have expected this sentence to read "...George Takei and his husband, Brad Altman."

  6. Well, I been at plenty of weddings where the father of the groom or the bride was gay and nobody was talking about it..

oh and the days when the New York Times was a marker of how the culture should refer to something are gone... long gone. I realized this after numerous A1 misspellings and the use of "snarky" during a period when it was not considered a proper word yet.
