Bruckheimer: Jake Gyllenhaal Didn't Juice Up for Prince of Persia

Though we've already had a glimpse, Jerry Bruckheimer tells MoviesOnline we "won't recognize" Jake Gyllenhaal in the upcoming summer flick Prince of Persia and insists he didn't go the A-Rod route in bulking up for the role:
"No, he didn’t [use steroids]. No drugs! No drugs, he just worked really hard. Well he’s a cyclist anyway and he bikes all the time so we just had him do a little lifting, but he looks fantastic."
Full shot, AFTER THE JUMP...

There's just nothin' hotter than a guy decked out as a tomb-raider!

I just don't get the interest.

I absolutely do NOT believe Jerry Bruckheimer's claim that Jake didn't do steroids. If you watch 'Jarhead', Jake is totally buffed out and obviously spent loads of time in the gym for that film, but he doesn't look huge like he does in the 'Prince of Persia' pics. He looks great in the pic above...but he doesn't look natural

His body looks good, certainly better than mine but I can't say I am that impressed or so skeptical that I would think he juiced for it.
There are dozens of guys with that body or better at the local dance club every saturday.

...very clear !

Juiced up or not, he could pull my hair all night long.

Also, if you go to the source of photos, there are others. Honestly, and trust me I've studied his body a lot, it isn't all that different than in Jarhead or Brokeback Mountain. He's got a bit more meat underneath it but the actual cut isn't that different. He was a bit stockier in Brokeback with his shirt off than in Jarhead where he was a bit more defined.
In any case, he does not at all seem like the type of person to do steroids. I doubt he would do that to his precious manballs.

no amount of working out can fix that busted face.
he looks like his sister with a hairy chest... has there ever been 2 less attractive "sex symbols"?!?!

Yum, he is looking GOOD! I highly doubt steroids. Agree with you Bannie regarding Jarhead and Brokeback and Jake's body.

Long hair or short, muscled or not, I've always loved him. He just has to get rid of that thing on his hand. That--Reese thing.

If he's used them, they didn't work too well.

i prefer him lean.

I prefer an actual iranian playing the role.

Typical Hollywood -- use a WASP to play a Persian prince because nobody'll come unless there's a good-looking white guy in the lead. Typical and oh so casually racist.

Love Jake! Sexy and talented.

You believe that bullshit, Poof. *rolls eyes*

Well, DUH. The interviewer asked Bruck if Jake used steroids. Whether yes or no, it's not as if Bruck is gonna say "Yeah! he sure did!" Of course he's gonna say no, not at all.

No way this isn't a steroid body. I go to the gym 5 days a week (been doing this for years) and look nothing like Conan The Barbarian. Neither do the other guys in the gym who aren't on steroids.

these wireimage shots of jake were supposedly taken just after brokeback mountain:

I can't even believe this is a news story.

Attn. Kyle Michael Sullivan : Jakey is NOT a WASP. He's 100% prime JAP.

Jake is half-Jewish and half-Swedish.
Hence the Nordic last name. The Gyllenhaals were hereditary peers from 1652 onward. But since Sweden abolished its version of the House of Lords in 1865, we won't be seeing anyone refer to Jake as "Lord" Gyllenhaal anytime soon.
In any case, his mother isn't an Iranian Jew (Mizrahim). She's a German Jew (Ashkenazi). So, the original point does stand. You have an awfully "white" - Jewish or otherwise - male portraying a Persian prince.
Had they wanted to go for realism, someone like Omid Abtahi would've been more appropriate for the role.

Steroids?--who cares! I hope for his sake he didn't (because of the health issues), but he looks good! (excepting the bad hair day--get me a razor!)
