Bishop T.D. Jakes Speaks Out About Son's Gay Sex Arrest

JakesBishop T.D. Jakes, the homophobic Dallas megachurch pastor whose son was arrested last week after exposing himself and masturbating in front of law enforcement officers during a sex sting in a public park, released a statement over the weekend (which he also read to his congregation) distancing himself from his son's actions by pointing out that Jermaine Jakes is an adult. Bishop Jakes also says that his son is being shown a "restorative grace" indicative of his ministry.

According to the Dallas Voice, Jakes has said that he would never hire a sexually active gay person, has spoken out against same-sex marriage, and has called homosexuality a "brokenness."

Jermaine Jakes turned himself in to police last Thursday on an indecent exposure charge.

***FULL TEXT of BISHOP TD JAKES STATEMENT regarding SON'S ARREST***

As parents, we occasionally feel that our children do not live up to our highest and best ideals. When they do not, we don't diminish our love for them as recompense for our disapproval. Like our children, we also are not infallible nor do we profess to be. Our now adult son Jermaine is 29, but when he was at home he was a recipient of correction, compassion and wise counsel. We hope that the light of what we believe will guide him through times of contradiction and moments of concern as he continues to mature.

In spite of the family pain we feel from this unfortunate situation, it has given us a chance to show him the same help, support, and restorative grace for which our family and church is noted. Through our ministry at The Potter’s House, as well as our own home, we have for years offered help in the time of need to all adults, our five children and other people’s children.

It is in moments like these that I am so grateful that we do not preach that we are the solution, but we look to Christ for resolution. So then, as a very human family with real issues, like many other people, we will draw from the same well of grace to which we have led others to drink and be refreshed.

Bishop T.D. Jakes

  3. Why are so many people who dont believe with the gay lifestyle being labeled as " closed minded" "i. nsensitive" and "wreckless". The last time I checked, we ALL have free will. No one makes you do anything. If people believe in the Bible, it states that homosexuality is a sin. So if someone believes that then leave them alone. We should have to agree with people being gay. I don't believe in it. That doesn't mean you are a better person than I am. I Sshould not be forced to agree with your choice of lifestyle. So stop hating on people who don't believe in being gay!

  9. This is toward the self proclaimed christians that only live by the verses that they feel like.

    John 3:17

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

The reason myself and other no longer go to church is because of the judging and gossip that's worse than school children.

A true christian will not judge ones actions or lifestyle. As the verse says. If Jesus did not come to the world to condemn, but to save.

What gives YOU the right to condemn?

A true christian will live and teach the word of Christ without damning those who do not.

I have found more hatred within the walls of churches than outside. History shows that most wars in history had religious motivations.

    WWJD?

  10. The power to set a sinner free from sin is in the blood of Jesus Christ which he shed. Accepting that you are a sinner and believing and confessing the Lord Jesus Christ, is the divine requirement for your salvation, do that today that you may not perish but have everlasting life

  22. Please don't talk about Christianity, ask question on what u don't understand ok; that thing as far as i'm concern as a Christian is always a spirit and power from marrin kingdom it takes the power of God for one to be able to overcome and 2; prayers;Throwing him away is not an idear of solvivg matters, once again don't abuse CHRISTIANITY.

  23. good day bishop if you get to read this. i'm also an evangelist's son and we have our fair share of challenges. after soberly considering what happened to us, i came to the realization that parents strongly entrenched in the faith normally have their kids as targets of the enemies weapons. again scripture also tells us that God tests us in so many ways to sharpen our faith in him. we can be sure to rest upon this one scripture which was given to my dad by his brother in law as he consoled him during one of our worst moments as a family that 'all things work together for good for them that love the Lord'
remember the bible didn't say 'some things' but all things which meant the worst tragedies, misfortunes and nightmares are all inclusive. this little scripture has so much hope that it puts the believer at rest and urges him to look up to God for his ultimate deliverance and providence.
    God bless us all.

  24. The Bishop and his wife didn't do anything wrong concerning his son, Jermaine did. I hate to put it in these terms but from a true christian perspective... Jermaine simply backslid. Even though he left the training (in the way they should go), the training will never leave or depart from him. It will be there in his constant subconscious reminding him and nagging at him that male/male and female/female sex is sinful, and it is, according to The Holy Bible. No president, no U.N. and no angel or devil will change the sinfulness and deceitfulness of sin.
