  2. Cute.

  3. Well done Tank! Zeroing in on the crux of the matter -- your dislike of Jimmy Kimmel -- rather than the point Portia De Rossi is making.

  6. Gotta love it when people comment just to mention how much they aren't interested in something. All. The. Time.

That said - hilarious. Well done, Mrs. DeGeneRossi!!

  9. I love Portia De Rossi, and Ellen Degeneres, and gay marriage, and being gay myself, but...

I really don't think this is actually very funny or clever. Paper cuts? Not much of a zinger. Why not focus on how her marriage hasn't affected Prop 8 supporters in ways they actually campaigned/fear-mongered about (e.g. K-12 education.) The idea for the spot is good, but it wasn't executed (by which I mean written, not acted - again, mad props to Ms. De Rossi) to its full potential.

    Better luck next time, J.Kim.

  10. ha ha, I may be a tool, but you're nothing special. I think this was pathetic, to be honest with you. More effete posing...in sending up the opposition (everyone). I agree with hannah arendt here. No plea for human decency or basic human rights is going to tip the balance in favor of one maligned and discriminated against minority. "give us! Look at how pathetic we are!" BOOOHOOO. It never has in the history of humankind. Genocide is political, and sure as shit so is institutional bigotry and discrimination; anything which seeks to strip you of humanity and class you as a THING. You gotta fight, fight hard, and lose some blood. Claim your homeland as your own, and tell those that claim it and exclude you to fuck themselves; that you're entitled--moreso than they are, in fact. And comedy? That's what this shit is, right? Comedy makes people laugh. It doesn't win rights. This is weakness. The only thing we have at our disposal is a public message? A humorous joke? It wasn't even that funny. In fact, this isn't funny, regardless of the intent. This is people's lives. Fuck this elite dyke and her elite lifestyle, and fuck YOU for buying into this media shit. These are entertainers. Wake the fuck up, people. Entertainers aren't activists, and they sure as shit aren't gonna FIGHT for you when the chips are down. And they're more than down now. We don't have any chips to play, in fact.

Yeah, I'm a douche...and I couldn't care less. I look at this site quite often, and am dismayed. If this is any indication of what we have to fight this fight with, we've already lost. You're weak, pathetic men. Understand? WEAK MEN. Embrace it, and STEP ASIDE, FUCKERS. We need strong, angry motherfuckers who aren't going to settle and laugh, and use satire when we've lost to SHAME the opposition. There's no shaming them. You need to TAKE what's yours. Not ask for it, or be polite aobut it. TAKE IT. RIP IT OUT OF THEIR HANDS, and SPIT IN THEIR FACES. Weak men deserve nothing, and get nothing.

  11. If everything bothers you so much, why bother commenting all the time, Tank. Sure as shit everything you catalogued there won't do the job, but neither will anonymous internet comments.

  12. Thanks for posting that Andy as we don't get that show Down Under. Portia is a great role model and shows again her witty sense of humour

  13. She was doing a light hearted appearance on a comedy show to promote her new comedy. The mock announcement was fine and fit the occassion. Ellen and Portia have both expressed their views about gay marriage and prop 8 before anyway and been very open about their marriage.

Straights like Ellen and Portia and a lot of the public has embraced them as a couple, and that and their highly non-threatening quality is good for changing attitudes and getting straights more comfortable with the idea of gay couples and gay marriage. They are a great public face for gay marriage. People play different roles in achieving cultural revolution, and there is more than one way to have an impact.

  14. Susan Jones was so upset by gay marriage that she could no longer perform oral sex on her husband leading to the end of her marriage.

Fred Smith was so upset by gay marriage that on a business trip he had random sex with a stranger who got pregnant and called his wife, ending his marriage.

John Davies was so upset by gay marriage, he pushed subprime mortgages on married couples to save neighborhoods.

Steve Thompson was so upset by gay marriage that he accepted a 2 million dollar bonus from AIG he didn't deserve.

  15. Bravo TANK!!! It's time for every hit we take from anyone, we give it back twenty times. Keep the word marriage, but give me rights like any heterosexual couple. Build muscles, but know how to fight back.....I could go on and on.....

  16. I think I'm in love with Tank...one for actually believing in activism - real activism and two, for referencing Arendt...not that I agree with your reading but the fact that you've read her and understand her make it awesome...

We need to be in the street rather than the bars...

    Posted by: tj | Mar 22, 2009 9:18:20 AM

  17. Oh yes, no one's ever heard of Hannah Arendt. *Rolls eyes*

Look Tank, your point is well taken, but posting anonymous Internet comments and naming yourself shit like TANK doesn't really make you any tougher, more masculine, or better than any of us, no matter how many names you can list off your Poli Sci 101 syllabus. If you expect the type of activism you wish to see from the Jimmy fucking Kimmel show you have some serious problems, aside from all the obvious ones.

You can yell and scream and be an obnoxious cunt and "take" whatever it is you think that is yours, but please, spare us your lame anti-establishment rhetoric. This isn't 1989, and we don't need ACT UP anymore. No, equality will certainly not be achieved through ridiculously self-indulgent HRC charity dinners, and we shouldn't sit around waiting for celebrities to do our work for us, but entertaining grandiose and vaguely violent fantasies about "activism" is childish, doesn't exactly endear us to anyone either, and, quite frankly, is the opposite and equal extreme. There's some middle ground, ya know. Douche.

  18. "Tank" = Troll.

Posted by: David Ehrenstein | Mar 22, 2009 10:58:51 AM

  19. Tank - if the dimwit bigots watch ANYTHING on TV that makes them laugh at themselves - they may just get the point - GET IT?

    Posted by: Glynn | Mar 22, 2009 11:09:36 AM

  20. Tank dude I think it is time for a meds tweeking... something just ain't right with your current doses.

    Posted by: Derek | Mar 22, 2009 12:00:18 PM

  21. Tank: "Yeah, I'm a douche...and I couldn't care less."

    'nuff said.

  22. david ehrenstein= poor, bad writer and sloppy looking old man with nothing to say at length. If anyone lives under a bridge, ehrenstein, you fit the bill in appearance and attitude to a T. Ugly through and through. Another irrelevant elderly faggot hanging on at the very fringes of f list celebritay.

Anyway, the rest of you ladies (and yes, I mean it pejoratively because you're certainly not men) can go to hell. Yes, it's childish... Step aside, and let men do a job you can't...and those like you couldn't pull off. MEN, not ladies, and not boys, and not LADY BOYS like you.

  23. I mean seriously, what kind of a guy uses the comments section of other blogs to link to his own his own? Smell the desperation.

    Posted by: TANK | Mar 22, 2009 1:55:15 PM

  24. Your own inflated sense of "manhood" and heteronormative ideas about masculinity that you spew around here speak more of desperation than a simple link ever could, Tank. At least Ehrenstein can string together a sentence without always insulting someone or claiming his own "activist" status. If you were any such thing, would you have time to comment here all the time?

    You go to Hell first.

  25. Tank, if you really feel that way, go on strap a suicide belt and blow yourself up in Temple Square. It's easy, fertilizer + diesel fuel = boom, and nails can really up the casualties, especially if you tip them with rat poison. Or you could shut the fuck up, realize we're a diverse and complicated group, get off your ass and do some grass-roots organizing.
