Whatchu Talkin' About, Willis?

Willis

In the most disappointing architectural announcement of the day, the Sears Tower is going to become the Willis Tower. Waah Waah.

Probably right about the time they paint it silver.

But wait! Sears Towers owners are pissed about renaming announcement...

  1. Does this mean Big Buck will now be known as Big Willie?

  3. In other Willis-related news, I just read that the real Willis (Todd Bridges) is trying to become a professional wrestler.

  4. Ha! I agree that this is stupid! Your title was exactly the same thing I said and reported on my Twitter and Facebook accounts because all I could see was Willis from Different Strokes! Ha! Ha!

  5. I, uh, rather *like* the new name.

  6. PAUL R, you did not finish your post!

Todd Bridges is trying to become a professional wrestler going by the name of "Towering Sear Man"...

And a little bit of Rhode Island comes to Chicago... "You go down the street to what was the Sears Tower and turn left..."

  7. Whatchu talkin' bout Willis? The Sears Tower is one of the most iconic buildings in US architecture. Renaming it would be like renaming the Empire State building, or calling the Statue of Liberty "Ms. Thang".
    Leave it alone.

  8. The problem is getting older in Chicago...nothing remains the same except the name of Da Mayor and the Cubs... but they are even trying to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field... gone are Marshall Field's, Comiskey Park and when I was a kid Oak Street was the gay beach... then it moved to the Rocks, and now it's Hollywood Beach in Edgewater... when I was younger
the gay bars were mostly on Division Street(aka State & Perversion)... now there are none there, then they moved up on Diversey, then to Boy's Town and now many are in Andersonville. Maybe they will change the name of Roosevelt Rd. to Towleroad...BUT THAT WOULD BE PROGRESS!

  9. I agree Rad. For example, true Manhattanites (no matter how long one has lived there) still refer to it as the "Pan Am Building" and refuse to acknowledge the "Avenue of the Americas" re-designation. It remains "6th Ave". I have heard even police officers, cabbies, and postmen deny the existence of a street named "Avenue of the Americas". And JJ, just to show I am not utterly rigid (although that is usually a good ting) I would support the "Ms. Thang" nomenclature.

  10. @ Rudy and Rad,

My mother refers to Lady Liberty as Lady Presley because she resembles Elvis The King in drag...which would make 'her' The Queen.
