One Iowa Launches Statewide Ad Campaign on Marriage Equality

Iowahope

One Iowa has begun running a minute-long ad across the state urging voters to reject discrimination and support the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court in granting marriage equality to all Iowans.

As you may know, right-wing and religious conservatives have not relented in their attacks on the decision. Bob Vander Plaats has begun a run for governor using same-sex marriage as his primary campaign issue. Death threats have been made against openly gay state senator Matt McCoy. And the anti-gay Iowa Family Policy Center has been holding rallies at the state capitol.

  1. I dunno. Looks a bit like those anti-Prop 8 ads from the campaign, trying to bury the gay couples in a wash of hetero imagery and abstract equality rhetoric. Maybe it'll work better in Iowa than in California (the situation is pretty different).

  2. I'm definitely proud of my childhood state taking direct action to try and head off the supposed 60+% support against gay marriage.

    @Matt
    I believe this will go well in Iowa, we are a smart bunch who don't need things to be different, but rather them showing that gay couples are just like anyone else and are your next door neighbor will work well. IMHO

  4. How come there is NO support for the judges that stood by their oath, did not go with the politics, and ruled for treating us all equally. Where is the support for them -- they are getting clobbered by the American For Family hate group from Tupelo (their name in Iowa is Iowa For Freedom). You said you would stand up -- time to stand up...or watch bigotry Triumph over fairness and you break your word.
