Conan O'Brien Gets a Whiff of Bruno's Kugelsack
Bruno made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien last night. He also arrived at Grauman's Chinese Theater for the premiere last night in a disco tank. Seems like all the promotion is wearing thin (though I know for some of you it ran thin a long time ago).
A portion of the movie in which LaToya Jackson is duped by Bruno was cut for the premiere out of respect for the Jackson family. It's not known whether that scene will be cut or not for the American release on July 10.
Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

So he doesn't care about sliming LGBT people, but he'll bend over backwards to make sure that Latoya Jackson doesn't get offended. What a wonderful person for you to celebrate, Andy.

"Seems like all the promotion is wearing thin"
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, he has seen the light!

The segment with Conan was not funny at all. I can't see what people see in the farce, definitely playing on stereotypes that cause gay people to be persecuted every day. Go away Bruno.

ugg- another Bruno post!? How much is the studio paying Towleroad for these lame advertisements?
Posted by: Tom A | Jun 26, 2009 10:32:23 AM
Seriously, is there really that little else going on that we need to follow "bruno's" every move?
Posted by: Paul | Jun 26, 2009 10:38:21 AM
I don't think his promotion should ever end.
I have a feeling that people are way too uptight about this movie, and with all that's going on in the world, would it really hurt to have something to laugh about?
As for the number of Bruno posts on Towleroad, I wonder how readers can avoid them? Keep scrolling, whiners.

Cool. You deleted Mario L from yer blogroll, now if only delete Bruno/Sacha too!

You know, I think a large aspect of Bruno isn't just in exposing the homophobia in the hetero community but also exposing the sissyphobia within our community.

shelby, why do people have to laugh at something just because SBC makes it. Are we all trained little monkeys, happy to laugh for Hollywood because we are told it's funny and will be good for us?
Ultimately, "Bruno" is lights on a wall that SBC and Universal wish you to help line their pockets for.
And Towleroad does seem to have a horse in this race, as much as MrVidCam does.

gawd, bitches, get over it! do you really think that people take the bruno character as representative of gay people? to infer that would be the same as people assuming that "borat" represents all peoples in Whatever-stan. i could go into the definition of parody and farce, but why bother explaining to a group that is incapable of getting it.
btw, if you guys don't like a particular post, don't click on it. i largely don't have a problem with the content on this site. i just don't like the infuriating download time.

A keen observation, JIMMYBOYO. Bruno satirizes homophobia, externally and internally. July 3rd can't come fast enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhP0tOm6yt0

well said, JIMMYBOYO.

Johninmanhattan
;-) Its been a journey. I once biatched at first, but am growing in appreciation of Sacha / Bruno
I also have been thinking about my own sissyphobia thanks to Bruno.
U know, I admit it.....I do have bits of it and I need to get over myself and accept there are more fem guys in our community and it's ok.
Hell, if some in our community could afford a tank........I'd bet all I'm worth that they would disco it up and ride it down the road in a pride parade.
:-)
LOL
and that is ok. The world needs a bit of glamor now and then.

I was surprised at the overt sexual nature of the show last night. I really found myself thinking what has the Tonight Show come down to? Johnny would be rolling in his grave....
And then the Cirque routine with the pole dancers? Did we really have to see vagina and kugle sack from that angle?

I totally agree with Nic's response to Bruno. I laughed my ass off and we all need to just freaking relax! Can't wait to see the movie with friends.

JIMMYBOYO, that's a really good point.

Sometimes I think we should add "P" to LGBT. It's clear that among us there are a number of prudes and they are not properly represented.

BTW - could "Bruno" be working under a curse?
On November 2, 2008 he joined "Yes On 8" crowds in downtown LA. The election happened, Prop 8 passed, and the film production has had to spend god knows how much to reshoot the film.
"Bruno" premiere last night and Michael Jackson dies, forcing "Bruno" to do a quick re-edit to cut out LaToya and had most of their publicity wiped-out by MJ coverage.
"Bruno" can't seem to get a break!

I give Cohen credit...he has Immersed himself in this character to promote the movie (while being a married straight man) also, in real life he's a friggin hairy ape....and he's waxed himself to death for this role......he looks nothing like his real life persona, which I find handsome..give me a furry guy anyday.

ENOUGH!! Bruno, I am crying Uncle!
Posted by: Boomer | Jun 26, 2009 1:02:58 PM
SKIFF, I didn't say anything about laughing for the sake of SBC's work OR because we're all "monkeys." You may view Towleroad's readers as such, but I don't.
Save your ill-formed arguments and confrontation for a Yahoo forum.

Skiff, people might actually take your comments seriously if you participated in the rest of Towleroad. But seeing as how you only comment on Bruno posts, it's clear you have a personal agenda. Good luck with that!

jimmyboyo, I dont know who you are but you're my favorite person of the day. i think you perfected encapsulated why some gay people are uncomfortable with SBC. They should get over it. I think this film is going to be a blast!

Shelby - Seriously, if evoking concepts of about trained 'monkeys' or 'sheep', is threatening the Towleroad audience, especially in light of the fact that it's the "Bruno" movie being discussed, then I am on the wrong site. I don't use profanity or engage in name calling in any of my post (okay, I did call someone an SBC zombie once).
If likening the masses to trained monkeys or sheep isn't appropriate on this site, please tell me now.
Crispy, and you are right. I should have posted my thoughts that Camille Paglia's remarks on the lost sense of priorities of the LGBT community during Obama's trying times. It would have been: "Camille fails to connect the actions of the LGBT community in America to the overall improvement of the LGBT community around the world. The struggle in America helps give others strength abroad."

As to "Bruno" being my bag, well, I did post the podcast of "Bruno" filming with Yes On 8.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avP-qhVGZRo
When you hear about reshoots to address gay concerns, don't think SBC himself didn't watch that podcast. If it wasn't for my podcast, would footage of that day have every seen the light of day?
And my "Bruno/Blackface" podcast definitely caused ripples, and again, because it was so quoted in the Hollywood trades, had to have been watched by Bruno high ups.
Can anyone fault me for contributing to discussions through the power of my video work?
