Gay Pride Month Posters Defaced at Labor Department
Posters for Gay Pride Month hanging in 35 elevators at the Labor Dept. since June 22 have been "defaced or removed," the NYT reports. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis expressed anger over the damage:
"In an e-mail message sent to the entire department, Ms. Solis, who helped found the House of Representative’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Caucus when she was in Congress, said she was outraged by the behavior. 'It appears, however, that some members of the Labor Department
team have a different view, as it has come to my attention that most of
the posters have been continually defaced or removed,' Ms. Solis wrote. 'On several occasions, even the poster frames have been torn completely
off the elevator walls...I do not believe these actions represent the majority of our employees, so I refuse to let this situation define us.'
The posters will stay up throughout the month and will be replaced
immediately if they are damaged or removed, according to the letter.

Swell. Is she going to initiate an investigation to find out who did this? Will they be punished? Don't hold your breath. I'm guessing that she, like her boss, will make a lot of noise about finding "common ground" with the bigots.

Where are the Security Cameras and Tapes??? In the so-called Post-9/11 paranoia world of the Lord G.W. BUSH, you'd figure every inch of federal Government Buildings would be covered.
Demand the tapes.
Oh, I see... It's just We The People who are supposed to be taped because we are the real threat to a free society.
What day is Obama going to wake up and fire all the nit-wits left over from Bush's government?

I worked at the Department of Labor for nearly 8 years. There are plenty of bigots there, but plenty of gays and our allies, too. I was surprised to hear that these posters were put up, but not surprised when they were vandalized. Certain folks really hate us.

there are security cameras in every elevator in washington. let's pressure her to find out who did this and fire them.
